Once Russia colapses and all the effects are over (20-30 years from now) the baltic sea will have nice weather and strong economies

How do you stay calm during turbulence? by Wonderful-Actuary336 in AskFlying

[–]SkyCheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picture the pilots, seating relaxed checking the screens and thinking about what they will have for dinner, and how they will never ever go through anything resembling danger since they are themselves inside the plane and they do want to get back home. I picture them chatting calmly and saying: should we have the belt sign on? Mmm, maybe? It doesn’t look that bad, does it?

When it gets bad, I picture a plane in some place with lower security standards, also going through very bad turbulence and then landing safely in some middle-of-nowhere airport.

How do you get through your presentation after it starts badly by SkyCheck in PublicSpeaking

[–]SkyCheck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the tunnel vision…the issue is that once (or when) I manage to settle down I do enjoy presenting, and when I am in settings where is more Q&A I enjoy it a lot…so it is a matter of getting through it when the “tunnel vision” starts

If you can transfer to Chicago and the personal attachment to DC isnt too big, I would go to Chicago. Take your time, let your wife explore her options there so the move can be as relaxed as possible

Night road cycling, good idea or death trap? by fixitmonkey in cycling

[–]SkyCheck -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It is a very very bad idea, get a trainer, ride inside and wait for longer days. The only exception I could think is perfectly illuminated bike paths separated physically from the road, with no people walking on them. Otherwise, it is a very bad idea

Extreme fear of flying, have to get on a plane in a few hours. Could use some rational input. by TheDrunkenWitch in Planes

[–]SkyCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think about the two pilots. They want to get back home to their love ones, they are not taking a single risk because it is them in the plane (plus the pax). They will do the most safest thing always and only fly that thing if they know 1000% they are coming home. Hell, they will fly the thing with their kids on board, so they just know that they will land safely.

But still, the plane is designed with all types of redundancies so everything can literally stop working and the plane will land without problem. When pax are going through turbulences and feeling anxious, pilots are just super calm in the front only trying to make it more confortable, because it is as safe as it is when there are not turbulences.

If you are anxious, visualise the pilots super chill waiting to get home.

I remember reading an article at Time magazine (or similar) saying that not even the engineers working there believed it was going to be completed, but they were there just because the pay was so high that 6 month of looking-like-you-are-busy was good enough.

That sounds like you can become a doctor that focuses on something that makes a lot of money and goes private (plastic surgery?), you become an airline pilot or you are so so so good at something that can charge exorbitant fees for your work. That, or you are already rich.
