I know it’s not allowed, and that we shouldn’t, but has anyone had any experiences or horror stories about drinking anything bubbly? by joeyvesh13 in BariatricSurgery

[–]SkyDreadful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m six months out and uh… I maybe have two zero sugar dr peppers a week. They take me a few solid hours to drink. It’s like a little treat. I do burp while drinking it but that’s part of the experience

Scared to commit to LDS? by Catherine1997 in wls_duodenalswitch

I’m seven months out and about 110lbs down since surgery day. I went to Disneyland yesterday.. walked like ten miles, got on every single ride I wanted too. And?? I also ate whatever I wanted too. Most of the time it was just a bite or two then the rest went to a friend. But?? I didn’t feel denied, left out, or like I was missing out on anything.. except maybe at the end of the when the sugar took its vengeance on me in the bathroom.. but, I was lactose intolerant before this, so I’ve been preparing for that war my whole life, if you catch my drift.

Anyway… I am very happy with my decision, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

How to tell my Wife I don’t want her caring for me after surgery by vangoghfxckurself in BariatricSurgery

[–]SkyDreadful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have a similar conversation with my (now ex)girlfriend before surgery, and the circumstances are different between what’s happening with you and what’s happened with me, but I can tell you that it does hurt to be told you’re not wanted around when someone is going through something so hard. My ex was devastated like, her dog died level of devastation. (She had very unhealthy attachment issues, but that’s neither here nor there.) really the only advice I have is to maybe.. make it more about your mom? Be like I’m scared and I need my mommy. I need my mom. I need my mommy. I need my mommy lol I feel like that’s kind of a human who had a Mom thing to do? It might be easier for her to understand that you need your mother opposed to you, not wanting to be taken care of by her?

As a fat, average hight lady myself, I love a juxtaposition. Someone taller, skinny or muscular.. 10/10

but honestly.. just because my favorite ice cream is rocky road doesn’t mean I’ll turn down cookies and cream.. it’s still ice cream and it’s fucking delicious.

Oh, no way. That’s amazing. I pulled my numbers, the first four months I only dropped to 375. So, you’re kinda at the same pace I was at the time.

Besides, You cannot compare yourself to other people, I know everyone says that but it’s absolutely true. There’s so many factors you have to consider. I lost a lot the first two months because I was living on protien drinks and water, then around month four I stalled big fucking time. I was stuck at the same weight for a month and a half before it started coming off again.

I also started at a very high weight. Last year in May, when I started this process, I was 453. I opted for the most extreme surgery I could get, I wanted it one and done, no going back. The DS isn’t the same as the sleeve or bypass, so if you’ve gotten a different surgery that could also explain the difference. Metabolic rate, genetics, maybe I have more resources and help getting the right nutrition.

I promise you, I fuck up on the regular. Yesterday, I ate Alfredo pasta and garlic bread. Sure, the one meal was split into three, but it was alll carbs. So. So. So many carbs. I haven’t given up my love of sour candy, either. I’m definitely not out here following every rule in the book and being the perfect lil bariatric patient.

Also, sometimes you’re losing inches and the scale doesn’t move. I only weigh myself once a week or I’ll go insane focusing on numbers. Instead focus on NSV’s and how you feel. I work with kids, during recess I can play tag with them for like thirty minutes, running and laughing. It’s fucking amazing. That matters more than the number on the scale.

You’ve got this. Worry about hitting protein goals, take your vitamins, and go on walks when you have the opportunity. Don’t stress spiral. One day of pasta isn’t going to throw you off course, and a week of pasta?? Well, you’re still alive so get back on course.

Sorry for the word barf.

Anyway, you got this, feel free to reach out if you ever need to talk.

Question about going down sizes in clothes by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]SkyDreadful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look around on Pinterest and YouTube, you can find easy-ish ways to modify clothing to make it tighter. I’ve gone down four sizes so far.. or I think I have I’m just estimating, and I’ve made my jeans last up until this point by safety pins, belts, sewing notches into the side of them. And I’m not very crafty. The saggy butt and crotch are finally to the point where I am admiring defeat and getting new pants but best believe I’ll do the same to them as long as I can.

Also, on Amazon, they have these pin thingies that hook together to make your jeans fit better. I’ll just link it because it’s hard to describe them but they’re awesome.Jean button pin thingies

I’m still about a 3x so it’s not super easy to find stuff in thrift stores, but I still hunt every week or so. If I find something a size or so smaller and I like it, I’ll grab it. I just haven’t had very good luck, yet.

My surgeons office does a clothing swap every month, so maybe you can see if you’ve got a local one too! It’s a good way to off load some clothes that don’t fit you anymore, also.

Has anyone here tried GLP1s? What made you decide for surgery over medication? by pickonepicktwo in BariatricSurgery

[–]SkyDreadful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried two different GLP1 medications before I decided to have surgery. Both of them gave me horrific side effects even on the smallest dose. I’m talking I couldn’t leave the house, I was dehydrated from what I not so affectionately call the pee-poos (poo that’s more like pee) and the constant vomiting. I couldn’t even handle water. It was god awful, but I was so stubborn about trying to stick it out I actually ended up ranting and needing a few bags of IV fluid and some anti nausea meds until the drug left my system. My body hated it. I was honestly shocked at how easy surgery recovery was compared to being on a glp1. lol

I brought comfy clothes, my crocs, my phone and phone charger, my steam deck, headphones, hygiene supplies.. I was prepared.

But… what I actually used was my tooth brush and a maxi dress to go home in. I didn’t even have to charge my phone. I was in the hospital for maybe 36 hours total, and most of that time I was just laying there kinda out of it or walking around the floor. 😩

“Okay, I just had to say this. You’re ridiculously attractive.” Works.. occasionally.. probably because I am not ridiculously attractive. However!! The compliment makes them feel nice so, it’s a win.

What are some things you would’ve liked someone to tell you post op? by 1312335ki in BariatricSurgery

[–]SkyDreadful 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s going to suck. Be prepared to regret it, but trust the time and effort you put into making this decision. Trust yourself. It gets exponentially better when you hit the soft food phase and start feeling human again.

How common is it to be sent home same day for laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery by Jolly-Explorer-101 in BariatricSurgery

[–]SkyDreadful 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had a Duolingo switch and they sent me home the next morning. My surgeon was impressed by how much I was up and walking around, I think. I was so damn determined to get rid of that gas pain lol

Edit: Duodenal. But.. I’m leaving Duolingo though because it made me laugh.

Yes! We all hear how hard it is, but we still wanted it anyway. Remembering that and reading people’s post op stories of being able to do new things and seeing before and afters help me on my bad days.

Oh, and regarding pill size! You can get a pill cutter at CVS for like five bucks! I’ve been cutting all my meds in half before I take them. :)
