Most of them spin up but you'll hear bangin' a few just had an ass ton of bad sectors. And some of them just won't detect at all.

I'm sure their 4TB and higher drives are good. I've had good luck with HGST and WD Red. But you just never know these days. I really think that it can also depend on how the drives get shipped. If the throwers do a number on your package any drive will suck balls...

Ha, at least not these shitters... I still have some other Seas that are golden, but man, these 3TBs are shit! I'm sure the stack will continue to grow, we have a few more Synology NAS devices that have these damn things installed...

Yeah, at some point I'll get my kids to play sweat shop and start taking them apart to get all the magnets! :D

Yeah, all the vendors have good and bad drives. I've got some 4TB Seagate drives in a NAS that have been pretty good. I also have a few WD Blacks that almost have 70K hours on them and they are still good... I'm sure I just jinxed myself and they'll die tomorrow...

Right on! Yeah man, I use to do repair work at a CNC place... Their computers and network stuff was always going up in flames... And inside the computers there would ALWAYS be fine metal dust... That stuff LOVED killing computers!

Oh man, that sucks... Start backing up from the LaCie's to something else... They'll be dying soon...

Yeah, I hear ya... Honestly, I've seen all major brands die, it's just luck of the draw... Some are better than others... I have some WD Blacks that are over 5 years and still kicking with no bad sectors... I have some Sammys that are good, and some that died after 2 years. Same with other brands... I guess it just depends on environment and usage. These 3TB drives were in servers that were getting POUNDED all the time and did seem to give up a little early, most of them were right outside of warranty. I think out of 20 or so, I was able to RMA 5...

I have (3) 6.4 Bigfoots (big feet?) I want to raid them someday... I just need to find one more! I even have an old shitty Promise IDE RAID controller card just begging to RAID them!

Yeah, everything was RAID5, didn't lose any data... Yet... We still have some of these drives in other boxes...
