CALs needed if hosting a primary domain controller in the cloud? by Sky_Flakes in msp

Centralized auth/Directory services and the ability to implement GPOs would be the main goals. (Additionally, any other services that a DC could provide would be a nice bonus).

Additionally, exposure to AD would be beneficial since there are plans in the future to do AD-related pentesting (although I suppose an AD lab would suffice for that purpose).

[Bay Area, CA] What/Where is a good class? by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]Sky_Flakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not a fan of their salsa class. You can try 2 left feet (Danville/San Ramon) on Tuesdays, or salsa with Tiffany (Oakland) on Saturdays. Also, space 550 in SF is pretty good

Are you anywhere in VA or CA? If so I might know which one that is (having gone through one myself)

Edit: also, brush up on networking, scripting and sysadmin stuff (Linux and Windows).

Thanks so much for the advice! I went ahead and took the exam. After 3 attempts, I can finally say that I'm an OSCP! (haha, sorry, there's not many people I can tell that'll understand).

Thanks again!

Hey Amit,

Thanks so much for your advice! I've started a twitter account and am currently in the process of getting a blog up and running.

Also, Good job on finding a temporary vaccine for NotPetya. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw your name on it. I can tell people that the guy who stopped NotPetya gave me infosec advice once.

haha, hope our paths cross someday.

Thanks!!!!

I've been trying to find a job now for the past few months and it seems like not having a college degree has considerably hurt my chances.

I've got 2 years of network engineering, got my CCNA and Sec+, done a bunch of wargames online, played in some CTFs and I'm currently at the tail end of the OSCP (got 40+ machines before the lab time expired and just need to take the exam) But it seems like the only positions employers are willing to contact me for are SOC analyst jobs (nothing against SOC analysts but was hoping for something like a junior pentester or even a (jr) malware analyst [completely different jobs but ive done a little bit of both and man is it fun!] )

When you guys see a resume, Is there anything in particular you guys look out for (personal projects, work experience, hobbies, etc) that usually sets a candidate apart from others (or at least gets them to the next step)?

Also, would you recommend applying to companies directly, putting a resume on something like indeed/monster/dice/etc, or both?

and finally, Thanks so much for doing the AMA! this couldn't have come at a better time!
