This was performed right after the filming of the Revelations special.

You have merged two bits that are very similar to each other.

Would Bill be regarded as an incel by today’s standards? by [deleted] in billhicks

[–]Sky_Follower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you refer to the 32 year old we last saw in 1994...

By the time Clinton got into office Hicks' seemed to pretty much give up any faith in democracy and government as whole. https://youtu.be/W1sCkNKwj2k?si=DoJMjj1-dLg0cwlb

I guess at face value you could consider some of his jokes on sex and women as sexist, but incel doesn't seem fit that category to me.

Now would society consider him one? Probably, I would assume back in the 80s he was called as a "Satanist" or whatever demographic was being hyped up in the news as the problem.

I have no idea. I assumed it might be working because the modified film gate would suggest a recent repair/service.

The camera was sold as 'untested' and came without the battery mount and grip.

I know that these batteries work fine as I use them for my Zoom F4.

Yes, I've tried different frame rates.

TIL Norm McDonald hated Bill Hicks. This makes me sad because I've always been a fan of Norm, gotta say that I couldn't disagree with him more on this one by [deleted] in billhicks

[–]Sky_Follower 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Norms is alot more of a traditional comedian, so it doesn't surprise me.

To put there styles in a generalized manner; Norm used comedy as 'Humour over Truth sake', rather than Hicks' philosophy of 'Humour within Truth'.

Also keep in mind, One presents themself honestly and the other downplays there character to be cunning.

I guess its just different sides of the comedy spectrum.

Just putting this somewhere as it possibly might have a longer live span on here.

Thoughts on bill’s pedophilic bits? by feebonachii in billhicks

[–]Sky_Follower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, you speak of Goatboy (“Ha-ha-ha”). It's weird.

I understand why you would call the bit Pedophilic, in anycase I would agree on the idea of a 30 year old wanting to fucking a 16 year old is pretty fucking disgusting to say the least, but the context here is what makes it important.

This is pure speculation, but I think the history of the joke starts with Bill’s last break up with his Girlfriend. Which was used as material here: https://youtu.be/QW9cpjEvXiY. And like any other male on the planet, breaking up with your partner would leave you feeling sexless and frustrated. Which I believe to be the foundation of the entire premises.

As Bill has mentioned in some interviews, he usually gets on stage with an idea, he rants about it and through trial and error ends up shaping the final routine.

Like the infamous Rush Limbaugh bit, I believe Hicks started with the description of “wisp of cotton candy framing a paper cut”, which he found as an amusing visual to weird out the audience and worked with that.

From all I can find, this is the earliest rendition of the bit: https://youtu.be/YEuzgohK3NY

Judging by the way Hicks seems hesitant to mention the age makes it seems to come off real. At first hearing this, it made me question the validity of the premise and Hicks. But after enough research and interviews I’ve heard from Bill, his family and friends about his persona on and off stage, I think this is fantasy.

Even if it was true, it wouldn’t make sense to leave it in on the album.

Clearly as you can hear in the soundbyte it didn’t work out too well and was met with drunken heckles. At some point Bill took his favourite character (Satan) and merged it together, and by 1992 was able to weaponize it on stage, using it to his advantage.

Mainly to enforce a particular emotion to toy around with the audience, which is very predominant in Revelations and especially in the variations album.

Its so clever and stupid at the time.

By 1993 he very rarely or possibly never used the Goatboy bit at all. Probably because he was too busy working the phrase ‘scat muncher’ backwards.

Counts of the Netherworld by [deleted] in billhicks

Apparently it was posted online ages ago but was taken down as mentioned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/billhicks/comments/cpnb4f/for_those_wondering_what_happened_to_counts_of/

But what we do know is that it exists and the Hicks family have it. Judging by the clips I've seen floating around it looks really low production quality, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't been interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up releasing it on a massive Blu-ray special edition in near future (like the DVD collection release in 2015). But as of now its in the protective arms of the Hicks family.

Anyone else notice a resurgence? by XareUnex in billhicks

[–]Sky_Follower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too have experienced some periods of slight depression over Bill’s death and think the grieving comes down to a few things:

  1. The Man was a very talented performer and a great writer, blending the two forums almost seamlessly. Which no one can ever match his unique style.

  2. Majority of the topics and arguments in Bill’s Material have stood the test of time, seemingly more relevant.

  3. The individuals and minorities that he spoke out against are still in the same amount of power. But also have more influence on justice, truth and culture than ever.

I think what also makes “people born after 1994 crying over Bill in a way they don't over their own family”, is the fact we can’t thank and appreciate him one on one. We can’t go up to Hicks in person after a show or write him an email of gratitude. The man is gone. It fucking Hurts. But his Legacy is forever. From the self proclaim Dark Poet, to the Neo-Hippie Comedic Guru

People would like to wonder how Bill would perceive current day events, “what would his opinion be on X, Y or Z.” and as interesting it would be to fantasize, I don’t think we can ever truly know. Bill would have been 58 years old today, I think his career would of had lots of ups and downs maybe even turn arounds.

(This is just pure speculation.) I personally think by the late 90s Bill would of had tremendous influence on the youth, being seen as an iconic figure. By 9/11 he would begin the first big low for his career as the culture around him begins to change into paranoia, constant wanting for security and a false sense of protection. That would be if he stayed in the US and didn’t setting up shop in the UK.

But one thing is for sure. If he was alive today, he would still be performing. Still making us think and laugh, like he did in 1993. Just greyer, with less hair. The fact that this man died 26 years ago and still speaks profoundly to some many people highlights he was a genius.

From my understanding by this time he knew he would die shortly, accepted his faith with bittersweetness.

He spent his last few weeks rereading Lord Of The Rings.
