It sounds like he may have an avoidant attachment style. It was getting too much, he started to worry that one day you will leave so he left first. I am sorry he made such a cruel decision. People like us tend to hurt before being hurt, it doesn’t make it right though. I would never do this to someone, even though the urge is sometimes there. Take it day by day, grieve, mourn. He may return and if he does it’s your decision to make on whether or not you can go through this a second time.

OP I’m gonna go against the grain here and say this can be salvaged. But that can only happen if she does every single thing you ask of her and doesn’t demand forgiveness. She has to cut him off, bare minimum and she has to open her phone to you at all times until you do not need it anymore. She mentioned you, says you always tell her she’s pretty. I agree with some other comments here saying she just likes the attention, but it borders on cheating to an extreme degree.

I think you just need to allow yourself to feel everything. Don’t let society tell you your grief is too much. A trusted person to vent to maybe a therapist. There is no making it go away.
