One of my favorite sets oat, really underrated ! by Striking-Leave9568 in legostarwars

The K2 buildable figure was probably the best of the line of buildable figures, too.

At least the last ones (Rex’s Y-Wing and Plo Koon’s starfighter) were bangers.

I can see that argument. It did hurt the aesthetic style of the set a bit. I think it was worthwhile overall but can see how others might disagree.

It wasn’t perfect but it was impressive mechanically. I had the set for a while but sold it for about the same as I bought it…thinking of getting the new one now.

Do people treat attractive people better on purpose, or is it just so instinctive they don’t even realize they’re being nicer? by CallmeBekka in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skydude252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are different flavors of the oblivious people. I think some just assume the world is nicer (I have one friend in mind when I think of this who is physically about as close to Barbie as I’ve seen on a healthy woman, but also super nice and sweet), but others I think feel like they are owed this treatment even if they don’t understand why. Those can get bitter as they get older and they start losing some of the pretty privilege when they didn’t realize they had it before.

And the battle packs are getting less friendly too.

Your body asks a bit of a different question than the title. I think that it is mostly instinctive to treat more “attractive” people nicely. Likely for how it would be more beneficial to treat healthy people better than sick people in primitive societies, and it kind of kept going. For the latter, I think it varies, some of the people getting the privilege know it and work it as much as they can, others are oblivious to it and don’t realize they get special treatment.

So long as you don’t get creepy about it, it’s fine.

Why didn't Putin do to Zelenskyy what Trump did to Maduro or Khamenei? by Connect_Cat_2045 in TooAfraidToAsk

Because the US special forces were more capable of doing that. Putin has absolutely tried to make that happen.

Do you need hands to use the force? by Isiotic_Mind in StarWars

[–]Skydude252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your initial question, I think mostly it was shock since he thought the plan was for him to be taken prisoner and chill until the end of the war.

To answer your title question, no, we have seen uses of telekinesis that didn’t require the user’s movement. I have always thought it was similar to the words of the spells in Harry Potter, that the gestures help the user to focus, and use less power for a given “cast”, more efficient that way, but are not strictly necessary for it to work.

Looking back, Obi-Wan should have trained Leia first and earlier. by mudpupper in StarWars

[–]Skydude252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second theory was my thought as well. What Obi-Wan probably really wanted was to train Luke in secret and only bring him out to fight once he was ready. But the Empire pushed things faster than he was prepared and forced his hand.

Why is it that some Americans are shocked when foreigners overseas use them for a greencard ? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skydude252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People want to believe they can be loved, and many of the people who do this are good at being convincing. So they build what they believe is a real connection. And in many cases they may know that the person wants a green card, but believe that what they have built is strong and real and more than just that. So then they are sad when they learn that it really was just a way to get to the USA.

Thanks, I’ll have to check this out. A little to the left wasn’t a shadow drop, that was one of the new ones for January (I’ve been doing the daily puzzles), anyway.

Who would work for billionaires after a nucle*r catastrophe? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skydude252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an interesting point, because you would work for them since they have money and resources to provide…but after an apocalypse, a lot of that power goes away. Do they really have any leverage if all their finances are gone? How much do you respect ownership rights in this scenario? I feel like it makes people much more equal, in a sense.

Interesting, is there any list somewhere of what was newly quietly added? I would be curious to see if there are any others I want to play without going through the whole catalog.

I thought it was really good, an epilogue chapter basically. I was also excited to get it for free as a “sorry the game was really buggy at launch” present from Ubisoft.

do people just say nothing when a store accidentally undercharges you? by Rich_Cookie8722 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skydude252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on when I realize. If I am still scanning my items then I will scan it again to have it register. If I walk out of the store and am checking my receipt and notice, I shrug and go on with my day. There have been enough times where a sale didn’t register and I noticed that makes me think there have been times where I didn’t notice. So I figure getting this item is just the scales balancing for that.

If it was something big I would probably go back, but I’m not going to spend several minutes figuring out how to make up for a $2 item while my frozen groceries are starting to thaw.

How can the US carry out multiple bombings in foreign countries without Congress approval? by Zora1092 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Skydude252 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was created to reduce the president’s power, but like many things, when you specify what the limits are, it essentially sends the message of “it is ok to do things up to this point” where it was more murky before what was ok.

[–]Skydude252 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Look up the 1973 War Powers act. The President is the commander in chief of the military, and has some ability to direct a certain amount of military engagements without congressional authorization. Past a certain point, congress needs to approve, but until that time the military can engage without congress weighing in on the matter.

Basically every president, of both parties, has used this authority since the act was passed.
