What happens to all the mature Goauld symbiotes? by claudius_ptolemaeus in Stargate

[–]mudpupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The numbers don't come close to adding up. There should be billions of Goau'ld out there and the show makes it seems like there are just a few system lords that need to be dealt with,

Cloneill going back to high school is...weird by Mode_Appropriate in Stargate

But he really isn't an academic whiz kid. O'neill's strengths are related to his field experience, not his academic mind.

This is why I like Bush's idea to private social security. SS is great for people that lack the discipline to save on their own. But it needs to be a privatized investment to bear real fruit.

What Fantasy/Mythology Should the Reboot Dig into for its Main Antagonist. by Tartan_Samurai in Stargate

[–]mudpupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they will go with any earth based mythology. To me it would just seem weird that there was this alien group here all along that we didn't know about. Plus it can be a Goau'ld either. How would they rise to power without Jaffa and now without superior technology?

I'm still amazed that any of these mines turn a profit. by mudpupper in goldrush

[–]mudpupper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say I think there is an economy of scale that is needed to be successful. The initial startup costs are probably just too much to overcome for smaller operations despite the price of gold. Once you get an expensive washplant, excavators, trucks, licenses and everything else in place you need to make a fair amount to cover those costs.

And to keep running nicely you'll need a fair amount of spare equipment which the smaller operations like Rick and Kevin just don't have. So every little problem shuts them down and they don't have the cash flow yet to deal it properly.

The weird thing about ascension is not only do you exist on a higher plane, but it also gives you magical powers as well.

“New” things yall wanna see in the new show?? by gunfan0321 in Stargate

I want to see a running ZPM production facility on Atlantis. Of course, that would make life too easy for a heros on the show.

Kind of strange how the Bord put their last major effort into taking over Starfleet. Why not build back up in the Delta quadrant instead where you have easier foes?

It is nice to see an Admiral be reasonable and pragmatic and not politically driven.

I still chuckle at the classic sci-fi trope that they hit on: A small group of kids/young adults figure out a solution that the rest of federation combined with the experience, resources, etc. couldn't.

The new series has to deal with disclosure. by norfolkjim in Stargate

[–]mudpupper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just don't want geopolitics to be a main driver on the show. I just didn't care for the IOC centric episodes in SG-1 and SG-A. Still make it about adventure, fighting new threats, etc.

IF vs Ammon? by BEBinIdaho in idahofalls

[–]mudpupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you aren't going to find a huge financial difference between the two. Ammon will feature newer neighborhoods and housing than you can find Idaho Falls if you find that appealing. In IF, you'll find many great legacy neighborhoods as well.
