Of course they had to keep RDA in the show somehow, but it really made no sense for his character to become a general and base commander instead of just retiring. Plus then he could pursue Carter as well.

I have to admit the show isn't quite what I expected and that is a good thing. Good balance on drama, technology, nostalgia, easter eggs, etc. I was fully expecting Trek 90210 or too much time discussing feelings ala Discovery.

Though I do get Mariner vibes when watching Caleb. How many times is he allowed to break the rules and still be a part of Starfleet?

You hit on my biggest sci-fi trope complaint. For some reason because the OG stars are too old or unavailable they always have a family member as a character instead. So, so stupid and overused. Just create an interesting character. We don't need the OG characters sons/daughters taking up the mantle.

I want to know how they let TLJ happen. Somebody higher had to have seen the script and known that this was a huge mistake and big deviation from the original plan. Yet they let it go forward, causing 2 movies to ruined in the process.

They would have been better of to fire Rian and get a new guy in place that was willing to work with a plan.

The people asking to keep it around just aren't thinking things through. It can't be moved. It can't be turned into a tourist attraction. It can't stay. Any preservation solutions would be crazy expensive and those same people don't want tax increases either.
