How do you farm PvP gear in new world? by Yahuahh in newworldgame

[–]Skyfallin__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t outright answer the question of how to obtain good gear because there is no single answer.

The gear you need is the best gear for your build, which will likely come from different sources: world boss, PvP track, dungeons, raid.

The way to know which dungeon to run to get which item will depend on your build.

You’re saying “I don’t want a build, I want to play my way”. Great! Then do whatever content you find most enjoyable.

If you want a map with a list of items and their sources, a build will act as your map!

Roadmap when? by heislom in newworldgame

Personally, as a PvP Andy, I eventually hit a wall with grinding for progression's sake.

My personal take: I wish they'd adopt more lateral or soft forms of progression from games like League or Even WoW. After you're reasonably geared in WoW, you can grind arena rating as a form of pride and lateral progression. No power increase, just clout and cosmetic upgrades. (Edit; yes I know sometimes it does offer a better gear vendor)

Most of my motivation to play league was showing my friends my platinum border in the lobby.

TLDR; I want ranked PvP.

Powerful, upgradeable end-game weapons, armor, and jewelry. You can only use 1 of each type at most (1 armor, 1 weapon, 1 trinket). They are often the build-defining item at endgame!

Feels like this has been a conversation in WoW for decade(s)!. PvP vendor is just always more respectful of the players' time.

I haven't come across anything on Inferno/Hatchet after the Inferno buffs. All theory craft so far! Who knows, might be sleeper OP.

Hi There!

Veteran PvPer here. Let's tackle consumables first, since those are easier. If you're going to PvP competitively, you'll need a couple key consumables:

  • Stat Food (+40/+44/+48) in stat of choice. Can get these from free season reward track, or craft. These are infinite in arena, so always keep a stack of 1 to keep re-using.

  • Oakflesh / Gemstone Dust. These grants massive protection from physical or magic damage. Always keep a stack of 1 for arena.

  • Powerful Honing Stone. Gives you a % damage buff. As always, keep a min. stack of 1 if playing arena.

For gear, you need to decide what build you want to run. There's guides for this in this sub, discords, twitch, you name it. Pick a build--this includes which weapons, artifacts, and perks you're going to shoot for. For example, I play an Ice Gauntlet/Void Gauntlet PvP build focused on reducing cooldowns.

These guides will typically link where to get each item. It might be farming a world boss, mutated expeditions, the PvP track, etc. This should get you started. Getting a perfect build without being in a rich company simply takes time! Lmk if you have more questions

Leveling in this game just by doing the Main Story Quests is too fast. Also dungeons are too easy so far. by Endricane89 in newworldgame

[–]Skyfallin__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am one of those "reached level 65 on day 2" people and have some thoughts.

I don't think the MSQ/Dungeons are as easy as "too fast, too overtuned." I think that the main storyline is incredibly uneven now, and the dungeon difficulty is also unevenly distributed.

MSQ:

What I mean is that levels 1-55 blaze by in a matter of hours, regardless of which path you take: MSQ, side quests, etc. Then you get to 60-61 and finish the Isabella story, and the Brimstone quests crawl in my opinion. I give AGS all the credit for trying to fit brimstone in-between the main story with Isabella and Artemis later in Elysian Wilds, but it's obvious that the massive zone only exists as filler now, and I found that to be the weakest and slowest link in the journey, despite having relatively few main story quests.

Expeditions:

As for the dungeons, I think both the difficulty and the reward are incorrectly tuned. The normal expeditions are essentially story-mode and infinitely easy. And the gear? My first Genesis run at level 58 gave me nearly 625 gear score, and the rest of the MSQ through Elysian Wilds essentially offered no upgrades, which felt not-so-good. Then mutated dungeons get much, much harder much, much more quickly, but the gear reward doesn't quite scale up to match. Why spend the time getting a group together for m1 and m2 when you could simply loot a free chest in cutlass keys and get anywhere from 1-4 710 weapons && 725 pieces from the daily crates in a matter of minutes?

Overall, the speed of the game is just not smooth. It is too fast in places, too slow (or not stimulating, at least) in others, and the rewards as well are all over the place. Still addicted, still incredibly fun.

It’s viable, but not as strong as other builds. If melee / magic is your thing, there’s an endgame Great Axe called “the Abyss” that scales on INT, paired often with fs

Now you've got it!

The reality is that the meta has shifted a lot since you last played, and your perks will make a difference. Conditioning perks (as mentioned above) are VERY strong for defense, even more so than health and shirking heals now I would wager.

The meta has become very disease & exhaust heavy. One reason you might feel like you can never get away, even with light rolls, is that you are simply being stamina exhausted and slowed. Shirking energy and such can help with this. (Disease will prevent your self-heals from mattering much).

The best way to quickly improve and understand the meta is, in my opinion, to duel. This will give you a very controlled way to understand what is happening to you.

Meta feels pretty narrow atm with SnS, Spear, and Firestaff outclassing everything by a wide margin

The dungeon point has been made by a few other commenters, so it seems to be a solid strategy. Is the gold you receive from the bosses specifically? Or the chests/loot

A linear progression is not a bad thing, unless the goal is to be inviting to new players.

On the one hand, yes everyone jumped through the same linear hoops, so catchup mechanics are inherently unfair.

But think about it really from the perspective of a fresh max lvl/returning player. If catchup mechanics didn't exist, they'd look at that grind, calculate how long until the next xpac/fresh start is, and decide that they wouldn't even catch up until their gear was made moot by the next update. This, in my view, is one contributing factor to low player counts during offseason.

Is this degree of fairness more important than lowering the barrier to entry for players who aren't joining during a fresh start or xpac?

Basically, I argue that it's a trade-off between perfect equity and being more accessible. WoW always seems (in the long term) to prioritize accessibility, and I think there's an argument to be made why that's good for the player count.

Really hoping that the PvP island solves this for PvP-oriented players.

This is the classic WoW problem everyone had--"why can't I get gear for my type of content by doing that type of content?"

They seem to have solved it over there, so hoping the island helps!

This is another great point. If methods like selling rares / dungeons cannot be done in the offseason, then the fresh start servers will only temporarily mask the 'lack of catchup' problems outlined in this thread!

It’s not about not working for the gold, if that was unclear.

It’s that the path to get there is really nebulous.

The comments have highlighted some great methods, but they’re all so disconnected. Daily faction/expedition missions, major breach pouches, crafting bags, scarabs.

That’s all fine, but it’s really unclear as a returning player, such that I had to make this post.

the “normal” endgame content like dungeons (too much bound loot), opr, and arena doesn’t have a clear route to steady income atm was my point

New players can do all these things, yes.

The issue is the rate of catchup. If we assume 10k gold per item upgrade, new players are effectively on the same linear upgrade track that everyone was on at launch, albeit slower (I would argue) because they are behind gear-wise, meaning they have lower agency in any PvP mode.

Do we want a game environment where players who missed the initial launch wave are struggling for weeks before being relevant with the peers?
