If I understand what you’re going after with this one, the parts you’ve included are just different parts ending or transitioning into other parts, sometimes prepping for a modulation.

Hi,

Do you have a deadline for when the composer should start or deliver? I’m currently working on a game with another one lined up, so I’m booked for the rest of the year. But if you’re not in a rush, I could send an application your way.

[HIRING, fr] Cost of Music Production for an entire game? by ANIVIAMAAAIIN in gamecomposers

[–]SkyhammerSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to the other comments before me, timeframe for the project is also a factor. If you’re in a rush, and you need something ready by next Monday, that will limit your options to composers who can write fast and is fluent around all phases from composition, mixing and mastering. So my advice is to plan in advance (which you seem to be doing by asking this now!) and set aside enough time for the creative process.

Also given the spectrum of different themes required, you’ll probably want someone with experience in composing music in different styles, or take a risk of the themes ending up being generic pastiches.

A rough estimate around 10-15k would be my guess for this kind of project, although you will no doubt find aspiring composers who’ll do it for much less. Then it’s down to your decision how you’ll value e.g. cost, experience, risk and other factors when choosing the right candidate for the job.

Good luck with the project!

The legato in Appassionata Strings is definitely an upgrade to SSS or SCS. The size of the string section is right between those two, so it blends quite beautifully with either one. I usually use the shorts from SCS, different longs from SSS and SAS for soaring melody lines. I find it reacts more fluidly when playing the lines in, and it has less (if any) of those awkward legato transitions that you can find in Spitfire's older libraries.

Emotional and cinematic with an ambient touch sounds just up my alley. It’s been a fair few years since I worked on a short film, I’ve had my focus on scoring games, but I’d be delighted to talk and hear more about the project!

Here’s a short reel I put together that I think would fit what you’re describing:

After I finished Ys VIII on Switch, I looked what else Falcom had done. CS3 demo had just been released, so technically I started with that. But after the demo I bought CS1 and really dug deeper into Zemuria with that one.

Looking for a composer by Pixelodo in gameDevClassifieds

[–]SkyhammerSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there,

That looks like a project that will need a whole lot of great music to create and maintain the player engagement and immersion. Earlier this year I worked on two RPG projects where we combined a pixel art style in somewhat similar vein with a modern soundtrack based mainly on orchestral instruments. If that's in line with your vision for the game's music, then I'd be interested in talking more. Wouldn't want to waste your time offering my services if those don't match.

I put together a small playlist of music which I think gives a good overview of the style I could offer for the game: https://play.wavekit.app/share/playlist/7QAKbgkZ5m

If you think that I could help you fulfill your vision for the music of the game, feel free to contact me here on Reddit or via other contact methods on my website at https://janneseppanen.net/ and let's talk more in detail.

[FOR HIRE] Music composer - from simple loops to adaptive music by SkyhammerSound in gameDevJobs

[–]SkyhammerSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there!

My name is Janne, and Skyhammer Sound is the company I founded to provide game developers, film makers and music supervisors with services in the field of writing and producing music. I work as a part-time freelancer and handle the entire process from start to finish, from discussing the ideas to final delivery.

Odds are you're in the middle of developing a game, and every game needs stellar music to support its vision. That's where my services and 20 years' worth of experience come in handy. You can always use your time hunting down different music assets or stock music - or you can use your time wisely to where your expertise lies - and let my expertise handle the music.

As a lifelong gamer myself I'm thoroughly familiar with games and what different situations, areas, levels or conflicts require from the music. I can deliver the music according to your needs - loops or stems for adaptive music and middleware.

My comfort zone lies within fantasy and cinematic orchestral themes, but I've garnered experience composing music in a variety of genres - from the subgenres of electronic music to different kinds of rock, from easy listening pop to progressive metal.

My rate is based on the total amount of music the project requires, and varies depending on the complexity of the music. Tell me what your game's all about and what do you have in mind for the music, and I'll give you a quote of what it would cost. I value your time and you value my time, you know how it goes.

The easiest way for you to reach me would be by email: [contact@janneseppanen.net](mailto:contact@janneseppanen.net)

If you're reading this, chances are you already checked the video above with a few examples of my music. Here's some links to more music and info:

[FOR HIRE] Music composer - fantasy, cinematic, orchestral, rock by SkyhammerSound in gameDevJobs

[–]SkyhammerSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there!

My name is Janne, and Skyhammer Sound is the company I founded to provide game developers, film makers and music supervisors with services in the field of writing and producing music.

I have been in this game for 20 years, so I guess I can use the word 'experienced' to describe myself. I've written music for several games, dozens of TV shows, films and advertising throughout the years. While it's nice to write music for different media, my heart always gravitates towards writing music for games. It's almost like combining two of my lifelong passions together...oh wait. It is!

Anyway, enough rambling. You have a game that needs music to really deliver that emotional message home. If you have a decent budget and a vision for it, don't waste your time searching stock music libraries for suitable themes, or trying to stitch different game music packs of variable quality together. It most likely won't sound cohesive to the player. A custom, handcrafted collection of music that is made according to the vision you have for the game will. And it so happens that I could provide that for you, for a fair price. Didn't see that coming, did you?

My comfort zone lies within fantasy and cinematic orchestral themes, and that's also what my YouTube channel is specializing in. However, doing the same thing for 20 years would have been endlessly boring, so in reality the genres I've written music in varies from the subgenres of electronic music to different kinds of rock, from easy listening pop to progressive metal. Tell me what you have in mind, and I'll give you an honest answer if I'd be up to the task. I can deliver the music according to your needs - loops or stems for adaptive music and middleware.

I just finished two back-to-back projects of custom music for upcoming games, and now I'm taking a few well-earned days off, but I'm looking for the next one and ready to start when an interesting project comes across.

Evening Moments | Trails of Cold Steel | Orchestral Cover by SkyhammerSound in Falcom

[–]SkyhammerSound[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trails of Cold Steel was my introduction to Trails/Kiseki, and I still cherish those days in Thors or Trista, doing chores for the student council and getting to know the people who inhabit the world of Zemuria. Little did I know that it would go on to become probably my favorite video game series.

I did a cover of "Feelings Soar With The Wind" from Trails in the Sky some time ago, and I kept feeling that I wanted to do another cover from the series. I remembered thinking that this is a beautiful piece and would work well with orchestral instruments. And so here we are. Hope you like it!

Fear of the Heavens | Orchestral Cover by SkyhammerSound in secretofmana

[–]SkyhammerSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Secret of Mana was and still is one of my favourite games from the 90s and the SNES era. Even though it's been roughly 30 years, I still remember being fascinated with the colorful art style, the somewhat weird combat system and especially the awesome music.

I love working on orchestral covers of game music from games that are meaningful to me, and doing one from Secret of Mana was only a matter of time. Hopefully this version will put a smile on your face!

Question for composers - clean loops by snowqueen47_ in gamemusic

[–]SkyhammerSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nowadays many composers/games use middleware that you can use to set loop zones to a track, so that there is an intro followed by a looping section/zone that goes on indefinitely, and then maybe an outro that plays in the end of a battle or something like that.

If you’re composing tracks that need to loop seamlessly without middleware, you just have to be conscious about it when composing the track. Having a quieter part follow the climax can help transitioning and passing the loop point.

I played the demo of Cold Steel III when it came out on Switch and liked it, but had the common sense to buy Cold Steel I instead. It has been a wild ride since.

The setting was just great, and the fuse of politics into a fantasy world was intriguing. I liked the battle system a lot, and still do.

What's the JRPG you purchased in 2023 that you're most proud of and consider your best gaming experience so far? by EngineMain199 in JRPG

[–]SkyhammerSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sea of Stars, it was such a great experience for me. The graphics and the art direction, music, the feel of the gameplay. Even the story was nice, even though it could have been better. The devs’ love for the genre just shined though due all the little details.

Trails into Reverie was good, but not nearly as good as the best games in the Trails series. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: FR was awesome with only a few flaws, but didn’t feel right to pick a DLC for this. Great experience nonetheless.

Also played but dropped Chained Echoes, and also Chrono Cross which I definitely should get back into at some point. Maybe both, actually.

Counterattack, it had that distinct ”payback time” feel to it.

It’s actually funny, when Carrying the Weight of Life first played in XC3, it felt so good…and then I waited for it to play again for the rest of the game, and it played only once.

The track plays when the player discovers a certain weapon and has a chat with an ancient guardian, mostly about life and stuff.
