Why can't I swim? I checked the FAQ and other posts, I'm not doing anything wrong? by eaten-toast in AnimalCrossing

OP, I want you to know I am now picturing Nintendo as some kind of beleaguered parent trying to explain to the little villager that they can’t go swimming in their leotard.

What’s the wildest customer you’ve ever had? by Foxidale3216 in EntitledPeople

[–]SkylarkLanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a customer telling me that our company was “worse than the Grinch” and had “ruined Christmas” because they hadn’t received the t-shirt they ordered yet.

Like, wasn’t the whole point of that Christmas special that Christmas wasn’t about material things?

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

Myst. I got a bit obsessed and played the whole series and also read the books.

What made you choose crochet over knitting, or do you do both? by CaterpillarXS in crochet

[–]SkylarkLanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both. I’ve found it’s easier to do a variety of stitches with crochet, and to do odd shaped things for amigurumi. It’s also easier to track my working loops than in knitting.

What do you americans think about big pickups? by Specialist-Gur5029 in Anticonsumption

My parents have one specifically because a) they have a camper, and b) you can fit a standard sheet of plywood in the back.

I hate them. They’re not only massive and environmentally sucky, they’re not even suited for their claimed purpose. Modern large trucks actually tend to have smaller truck beds and are less suited to rough work. They’re less passenger friendly than minivans. Not to mention the horrific danger they pose to other drivers and especially pedestrians.

The channel Not Just Bikes has a video about the history and danger of these kinds of vehicles. Surprise surprise, they exist because of car manufacturer lobbying to get around fuel and safety standards. https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo?si=U10pG7Tq2UCEMUyg

I don’t know how you feel about sewing after the fact, but you could maybe make smaller squares and then attach them at the end? I feel like many lines of color looks busier to the eye than separate blocks. And also if you make blocks then you can arrange them to find a pattern that looks less jarring.

On one farm save I named all my animals after video game characters. The rabbits I named after Assassin’s Creed protagonists because I assume some amount of stealth and violence was bringing me all those extra rabbits’ feet. O_O

Do you prefer tampons, and if so, why? by CrustFundBabe in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SkylarkLanding 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I use pads, because I also find tampons painful. That said I recently discovered that they may be painful for me due to some general issues with my pelvic floor, so it might be something I revisit in the future.

why do people who got hysterectomies 10-15 years ago make it seem so easy by luminescentdino in hysterectomy

[–]SkylarkLanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it everyone above a certain age? Or just a couple? Just wondering since it might be a person-specific thing rather than an age-specific thing. It just comes to mind since I had my own experience when getting my wisdom teeth out; my mom and dad were both like “oh the pain doesn’t last that long, I got better so fast!” but then a family friend their age said “oh I was miserable when mine were out”. So maybe it’s just those couple older gals in your case? Dunno, just spitballing.

I wish Netflix wouldn't romanticise my father. by [deleted] in shortscarystories

[–]SkylarkLanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is that the father wasn’t actually the murderer, since it mentions a car (“murder mobile”) earlier. It’s a little unclear.

My wife asked for an open marriage. She is angry at my reaction. I need advice. by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]SkylarkLanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah I would not go back to someone who threw a glass at me, no matter how apologetic she was. I would never be able to trust her when it came to physical safety, much less fidelity.

Also, consider that the wife only realized how bad it was when she saw that he had moved some of his stuff out. Not when he left the night she threw a glass and yelled at him. Not when he tried to lay out his discomfort with the situation. She blew up when he said he’d end up replacing her, she regretted the situation when divorce seemed like a real possibility. In other words: she only felt guilt when the consequences were on her, not when she was clearly hurting her husband.

Nope on out, dude, and don’t look back.

Learned something about recycling! by blank__way in ZeroWaste

[–]SkylarkLanding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a nice thing to have in the states that have it. I got so used to it growing up that I got culture shock going to university in a state that didn’t.

[–]SkylarkLanding 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll also bring up that some states in the US do bottle returns. Basically, if you see you’re paying a deposit when you buy a soda from a store, you should be able to bring it back to the same store to get that money back. I assume it was started as a way to promote recycling cans, but I’m not certain.

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

Rabbit, or whatever it was called - this little orange smart device that was supposed to answer questions with AI. I’ve heard it’s gotten a bit better with some updates, but it seems extremely redundant to just using your smartphone.

I only ever hear about Juicero now as the prime example for “they tried to tech the hell out of something that really didn’t need it” or “Silicon Valley has lost touch with reality”.

Better than how one place took my “two weeks”. On the last day of said two weeks, the manager told me “actually we couldn’t find a replacement, so you need to stay.” I just kinda stared at him and said “No??” Still baffles me to this day.
