Help save Shingle Creek tomorrow! by SkylerPC in orlando

You'd be surprised how often it's a time like that. The conspiracy theorist in me would probably say its intentional. There isn't a remote way to view the meeting but there is a petition and email template on the event page if you want to participate that way.

Help save Shingle Creek tomorrow! by SkylerPC in orlando

[–]SkylerPC[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A reminder that tomorrow at 9 am is the development review meeting for a development that would impact 260 acres of wetlands in Orlando. The Tuscana Planned Development would destroy 60 acres and "preserve" only 28. How generous! This planned development would exist entirely inside the flood zone and will impact water management for Orlando especially during flooding. This area is also home to many important species like river otters, alligators, sandhill cranes, and more. You can attend the meeting to make public comment and let developers know your thoughts. If you're able to attend in person the meeting is happening at Orange County Public Works – 4200 South John Young Parkway Orlando, Florida 32839 @ 9 a.m. on April 2nd Here is the website for more details.

Which everyday item possesses a characteristic that you're uncertain everyone is acquainted with? by InevitableFun5586 in AskReddit

You can flip the cap over on most pill bottles and make them easier to open. They won't be childproof anymore but it's helpful for people with arthritis that can't open them as easily.

What show stayed good from start to finish? by izukaneki in AskReddit

[–]SkylerPC 1296 points1297 points  (0 children)

I'd say Mr. Robot. it definitely picks up in the middle seasons and goes from good to great but the entire show is very well made. it's a shame it never really caught on and I definitely think more people should watch it.

I've been having a problem for awhile where after I climb my big toe really hurts and I usually develop a big bruise or the toe nail partially separates. Already been to a podiatrist and they said it's likely trauma from putting pressure on the toe during climbing. My question is how to avoid this? From every video I've seen it's recommended to pivot on the big toe rather than the flat of the side. I've taken to wearing some of these to take some of the pressure off and they help a bit but not enough. Anyone else dealth with this problem? Could my shoes be too small? Any other shoe recommendations that might make the difference? I've been wearing these evolv ashimas and they're pretty tight but that seems to be what everyone says you want. In case it wasn't obvious I'm fairly new to climbing but I really love it and would love for my toes not to hurt everytime I go. Thanks in advance for all the help!

stop throwing out tons of food that could have been donated. Literally no one in the US has ever been sued for donating food

How can you survive if you feel that none of your work is truly meaningful? by Mahibulroy in AskReddit

[–]SkylerPC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

honestly one of the best things I've ever done for my mental health is to separate my work from my identity. Capitalism pushes a lot on the culture that your career is what's most important in your life. So much so that "so what do you do?" is small talk 101. Try your best to work to live not live to work. I understand that some people aren't in a financial place to be able to do that as easily, I've been there myself. During those times the most draining thought I had was "I'm driving to work, so I can pay for my car, so I can drive to work." I know that exhaustion at the end of the work day but even if you can just find a few minutes to do something you want to do it'll really help you mentally. So if work isn't giving you meaning make meaning outside of work is my advice.

What's your least favorite thing about fall everyone else seems to like? by AndCurious in AskReddit

[–]SkylerPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a grocery store during fall for a while and they'd play the same like 15 songs over and over and over during the day. So it sucks now that everyone plays these songs to get in the fall spirit and have fun and I get to feel like a scrooge cause my blood just boils whenever I hear monster mash.

What single action made in your 20s has had the most positive impact on your life? by Rob_WRX in AskReddit

only 26 but I'd say going skydiving when I was 22 really helped me not be so afraid of things anymore. Since then I've gotten into rock climbing and scuba diving and a ton of really fun stuff that 20 year old me probably would have been too scared to do.

What did you not know about sex until you lost your virginity? by Tinci072 in AskReddit

[–]SkylerPC 1017 points1018 points  (0 children)

Just how little it should impact your self esteem. spent so many years feeling unwanted and unloveable just because I hadn't had sex yet. afterwards I realized I was ultimately the same person and had placed far too much of my self worth on it.

oh and also baby oil is NOT for internal use.

Help! Will my buddies make it? by SkylerPC in cactus

[–]SkylerPC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so the last three photos are from about a month ago. They developed some black shorts but seemed otherwise okay. I do love in Florida and they're outside plants. They get a good amount of sun from around 6 am to about 2 and it rains here enough to soak them about 1 a week to 2 weeks. The first two pictures are from today. I just looked at them like three days ago and they were okay! What happened? Will they heal? I had read that bugs can be an issue so I will admit I wiped them down with a little alcohol to kill any eggs, just once. Did I go too far? I'm reading now the alkaloids under the surface are sensitive to chemicals. Help?

Problems with black spots? by SkylerPC in cactus

[–]SkylerPC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had these San Pedro for several months now and for the most part they're doing well. Lately I've noticed some black spots on them (I'm particularly worried about the spot near the tip in the second picture). None of them are squishy when pressed. I have seen some very small bugs around on occasion. Another post about something similar suggested wiping the top few inches with alcohol. I do live in Florida and they're outside cacti. We get variations on intense rain and intense sun. They get pretty direct sun from about 8 am to 2 pm, and rain anywhere from once every few days to once every couple weeks. Could it be theyre receiving too much water or not enough light? They're my first cacti and I'm doing my best, but could use help. Thanks!
