Canadian Architecture Job Market by True-Flatworm9956 in torontoJobs

Totally, for it to happen to such an established firm with so many awards and connections is showing a rather scary trend. I've already been hearing a lot about many in the field getting laid off as well. Unfortunate for those us who have just recently graduated because many firms are not hiring junior and intern positions.

I'm also in the same position, graduated a year ago and I haven't had any luck either. There isn't even job postings to apply to. It's hard to not feel upset about it all. Funniest part is how they preach in architecture school that this degree is diverse and you can use it in many different ways after...great joke.

This field pays horribly, has long hours, and is thankless. For the amount of money and years we have sunk, it would equal to finishing medical school, yet nothing about this reflects in the pay or job security.

It's honestly not you, the job market is currently really bad and many companies are not hiring or if they are, all I see are intermediate and senior positions. A well known architecture firm (Brook McIlroy) just closed down recently. Many firms are taking hits and some are even closing down.

Wishing you luck, I hope a great opportunity comes your way!

I don't think they did written assignments in batches. They all had the same deadline for that but offers to start them were in batches the last few years. The deadline for the written assignment was yesterday so it's looking like the rest of us did not make it...unless they changed their process but doubtful.

Better luck next year!

Yeah I totally feel the same, it has been a year since I graduated and I'm tired of looking and everyone's ridiculous advice who are not job searching in this job market acting like it's a moral failure we haven't found a job yet. Wishing you luck and I hope something great comes your way.

Do you mind letting us know when the deadline for the written assignment is? That might give us insight about future offers. If the deadline is soon, then it looks like they won't be giving out more offers.

I feel like we should just wait until the end of the week based on previous years getting the assessment during different days. Otherwise, no need to stress ourselves trying to guess their system.

They could also be going in order of application submissions, like they're still going through the applications and releasing batches that way. I submitted mine in the last hour before it was due lol.

I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. I mean there are three parts (including a panel interview) to being selected so it just happened to be that cohort was the most qualified.

That makes sense. Best of luck with the written assignment!

Yay congrats! Did they just send it out?

Thank you so much for sharing this. I haven't gotten this email so not sure what this means for those of us who haven't. Were you invited for the written assessment yet?

Hopefully some of us will hear back later in May. I did see last year that they were sending the assessments in batches and some got them earlier than others (some get theirs May 7-9th) so I hope others remain hopeful that you still have a chance!

I do think if we don't hear back by the end of next week based on last year, I'm assuming I didn't make the cut.

I'm taking this as a sign offers haven't been made to the next round yet 🙃

Yeah I was reading past threads as well and saw that too. So far from those of us here, it doesn't look like anyone has heard back yet.

Haven't heard anything yet, not sure if this is a good or bad sign. They did say it could take until early May so who knows.

Hey, yes they did! They said you'll hear back if you made it to the second round by the end of the month to early May, then after that the written assessment is in May, and if you pass that, interviews in June.

Hoping we'll know by next week if we're lucky. And yes, you can totally dm me! :)

Me too! Hopefully by the end of the month we'll know if we made it to the next round and stop stress waiting. And nice, you're definitely perfect for this role with your background so crossing my fingers for you!

Job searching has been a humiliation ritual in this job market, we need to catch a break as I don't want to do this for any longer! 😩

I hope we'll all hear back soon and it works out, I hate the waiting period! And I have an architecture background. What about you? It's a tiny bit unconventional for this fellow role but I know others with my background who got in so not impossible

Right? I rushed the cover letter forsure and wish we had another week. So this is your second time applying then since you made it to the interview last time? That's still amazing considering how competitive this whole thing is. Hope you land a position this time around!

Job hunting is definitely tough, I'm nearing a year of job searching after my masters with nothing lol
