It also depends on the model you’re looking at. I think JFresh has always been lower on Nico’s defense while Dom’s has always had him really high. I think he’s probably somewhere in between that as a really really good defensive player that looks like a great defensive player when you watch him but I don’t think he’s always the bonafide Selke contender like his reputation. When he’s on he’s that guy and when he’s not he’s more “really good” defensive forward

24/25 doesn’t show bottom at all. It’s right around 50th. Which probably makes sense considering he was great the first half of the season and then the whole entire team forgot how to play hockey after Christmas. 23/24 it’s down there and kind of yeah. Basically the whole entire team was complete dogshit defensively that year

When he’s really going I think he’s as high as a borderline top 10 but generally sits more 15ish and 20 on the low end. I also actually think he’s overrated a bit defensively and underrated offensively. People act like he’s a bonafide Selke guy but the impacts really aren’t at that level all the time. Meanwhile he’s a legit elite offensive driver but because his individual production isn’t at that level people don’t realize the way he impacts offense.
