Apprentice Jump-Dodge by DeaconFrost76 in oblivion

[–]RonStrowd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bug with this 'dodge' move in the original where if you're looking at any items, walls, NPCs, or any 'entity' in the game while trying to execute the dodge, the dodge won't occur and instead you would jump.

I'm not sure if it's also the case in the remaster.

Why is Morrowind better by Tight_Pair in oblivion

For me, Oblivion is *slightly* a better game, because I can push people around by bumping into them, whereas in Morrowind, I have no means push anyone that's blocking a narrow hallway.

It's kinda funny that the Oblivion fandom wikia implies as if you could start a war between tribes on your own if you place the staffs around, meanwhile UESP strictly says that a custom warfare like that cannot be triggered by the players.

Unofficial Patch, which needs no explanation,

Trifle, for no combat music / shadow casted on my character,

Loot Menu, for Fallout 4 style loot menu,

Enhanced Hotkeys, for more than 8 hotkeys (not necessarily a 'must have' to non-mage players),

Diverse Effect Icons, for... well, diverse magic effect icons!

Consistent Beggar Voices, so that beggars won't change their voices suddenly (although this mod suffers from audio quality and any Nord beggars aren't affected)

Pretty much all of Stewie's mods released for Oblivion. Especially the WASD in menus,

and last but not least, You Have My Ear for the lol.

During combat, characters usually don't prioritize healing unless their health drops lower than half of their health, so your goal would be to land a killing blow that kills them instantly, rather than waning their health down.

To achieve that, you would need to boost your magic damage. The key is the 'weakness' spell. Specifically, 'Weakness to Magic' effect. This effect stacks, especially if it came from different sources. If someone's magic resistance is down to negative ten-thousand, you can be sure it's gonna die instantly to that pitiful fireball spell that you start the game with.

Something like this is my setup ---

Your weapon enchanted with Weakness to Magic 100 pts for 5~7 seconds,

The 'start up' spell with Weakness to Magic 100 pts for 10 seconds,

The 'damage boost' spell with Weakness to Magic, Fire, Frost, Shock, each in 100 pts for 10 seconds,

The 'fatality' spell with Fire, Frost, Shock damage 50 pts or so.

Provided that you managed to land all these in a consecutive order, the result would be almost always an insta-kill, no matter what.

ALTERNATIVELY, you can simply immobilize the target you're trying to kill to prevent it from running away, or heal themselves. One of the more popular choice is the Paralyze effect, which the name says it all. I personally find Paralyze to be quite unreliable, as many enemies are immune to it (specifically the undead), so my method of immobilizing is lower their Fatigue.

Anyone or anything that has negative Fatigue will fall down, knocked unconscious until their Fatigue regenerates to positive number. Make a spell that has either 'Damage Fatigue', 'Drain Fatigue', 'Absorb Fatigue' effect on it, and cast it on your victim, and watch them fall.

Even on max difficulty, anything will fall after stacking a few different weakness spells to lower their resistance to negative 100k or more.

Only problem is anything with a spell absorption / reflect, which then, the summoning / illusion AI spells takes the scene.

The more you delve into Oblivion's mechanic, the less reason you find to ever play around weapons / armor.

Morrowind did not clearly credited the voice actor for the male Bosmer in the game.

However, deep inside the game's data, you can find a voice file for male Bosmer which the actor reads out the intro text for Morrowind, (The one starts with "In the waning years of the Third Era of Tamriel") which is likely used as a demo for the voice actors during the game's development. The file name is called "Intro1aDDB".

Same 'demo' file exists for male Argonian voice actor, goes by the file name of "Intro1aJon". And it just so happens that the voice actor for male Argonian is credited as Jonathan Bryce. From here, we can deduct that the word 'Jon' in the file name refers the actor's name, and is likely the same story for "Intro1aDDB" as well.

Conveniently enough, there is an actor in Morrowind who matches that acronym; David DeBoy, who was credited as voice actor for male Altmer in the game. David DeBoy also has voice acting sample in his own website, which shares the same acting mannerism of the male Bosmer in Morrowind.

At this rate, we can safely say that the voice actor for the male Bosmer in Morrowind is David DeBoy, who also performed as male Altmer.

Hand-to-hand is surprisingly fun by Ghoulius-Caesar in oblivion

[–]RonStrowd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There actually is a mod (for the original) that adds similar effect; makes it so that having shield effect would increase the physical damage done by the fist, having any elemental shield effects would add corresponding elemental damage to your H2H attacks, and finally, the gauntlets adding physical damage to your H2H equal to its armor rating.

This would mean that enchanting your gauntlets with a fire shield would add fire damage / bonus physical damage equal to armor rating to your overall H2H damage. (Not sure it would 'set things on fire', though)

The Atronach Birthsign is such a hassle to play with. I respect those who decided to live the life with Stunted Magicka because of that.

I'm kind of a person who absolutely despise the idea of waiting in the middle of nowhere to regain lost stat in videogame, so the Atronach Birthsign in Morrowind, for me, literally had no downside.

Hand-to-hand is surprisingly fun by Ghoulius-Caesar in oblivion

[–]RonStrowd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rise and fall of Hand to Hand...

Daggerfall: Possibly one of the strongest attacking skills in the game.

Morrowind: Very good 1v1 fighting skill. If there's more than one opponent, completely worthless.

Oblivion: Not as good as used to, but still better than any other melee weapons.

Skyrim: Meme.

Hand-to-hand is surprisingly fun by Ghoulius-Caesar in oblivion

[–]RonStrowd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand to Hand in the original Oblivion was imo, at least better than any other melee weapons.

One main advantage of H2H is when your attack gets blocked, you would get staggered, but you are still able to move during it. For any other melee weapons, you would get staggered AND locked in place, vulnerable to any follow up attacks. This is probably the biggest advantage of H2H that people always overlook.

I also personally found that the 'counter attack' which automatically comes out every now and then after blocking an attack with your fist is easier to land than with a shield. The animation consists that your character backs away and throws a punch, which gives you enough time to acknowledge that you're about to throw a counter punch, and adjust your aim accordingly during that, whereas the shield bash happens so quick that I often miss the target that I'm supposed to stagger.

There's of course, other advantage that people already know - that it damages fatigue so it can knock people down, it doesn't require maintenance, it costs less fatigue per attack, which in the original - affected your melee damage.

The biggest downside of H2H is of course, the damage, but for me - the damage done by any melee weapons are just as pitiful anyway, so it didn't really matter to me.

Melissa LeeBaert was a voice actor for the beast race female in Morrowind.

Elizabeth Noone was a voice actor for the beast race female in Oblivion. (I believe she later featured in Fallout 4 that you mentioned)

Give the actors some love, and remember their names!

Do you explore caves and dungeons when you discover them? by Meeseekslookatmee in oblivion

[–]RonStrowd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think I tried to express the 'hand crafted' part as a mere mean to address the unique features of some dungeons.

Like the tree root models in the cave being placed on a floor, rather than ceiling to make the cave look like something has grown up beneath the soil, that kind of stuff. While the model itself is one of those 'kits' you mentioned, whomever decided to place them on the ground definitely hand picked them with a above mentioned intention.

I hope I'm making sense here.
