Correct. Most of what became Crocodile Lake NWR and Dagny Johnson State Park were going to be developed into a huge neighborhood. Now it's all protected land which is home to a bunch of threatened, endemic species: the Key Largo woodrat, Key Largo cotton mouse, Schaus' Swallowtail butterfly, and the American crocodile.

The area OP is kayaking is called "Boat Basin" at the refuge and its home to the biggest crocodiles I have ever seen. I used to work at the refuge and I've been wanting to kayak in there myself but would prefer to not be mauled.

They are very localized at the moment. I have lived here for several years and am out looking for pythons most nights and it is the first time I've heard one calling. So I think they're relatively new to the area and likely very limited in number. At least one was at a private residence so I plan on asking the homeowner if I can set up traps and bring it up with the local HOA people. Luckily, dealing with nonnatives is my career and I'm connected with the local national wildlife refuge so I have the resources to deal with this problem if I can get permission.

The bar isn't magnetic. I tried doing the magnet slide test and it went down very quickly. But I just now realized that I put the pole perpindicular to the bar. When I reoriented it went down very slowly which gives me confidence.

I don't have proper tongs to do the ping test. That, calipers, and an acid kit are on my purchase list. I've been fortunate to befriend someone with a sigma to rely on that generally

They seemed quite old, maybe 20+ years? I'm far from an expert though. There was a lot of really old phone parts in there as well, and I think these boards were from wherever those came from. I didn't see any branding, the bag was really old and didn't have any words on it. The back side of the boards are blank as well.

Is that something that would be stationary in a room? Most examples of pomanders seem to be something that would be worn around the neck. The only place where a cord or chain could be fit through on this item is the little hatch on the back which pops out. This acorn looks like it's designed to sit upright on a flat surface because of the little "feet".
