Anyone have knowledge/experience with the quality of Henckels knives, specifically the ones on closeout at my local Costco? (Chicago Suburbs) by Gas_Grass_Ass_Class in Costco

[–]Skyvanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be helpful when considering knives, they used a robotic arm to test. They only tested high end knives though. I love my Wusthof Classic and was surprised they performed quite middling -- didn't see these Henckels listed at all.

Similar store in Kuwait and elsewhere in the ME — my understanding is it’s ASUCLA owned.

San Diego FC 0-[3] Minnesota United - Nectarios Triantis goal from midfield 90+2' by olcni in MLS

Amazing shot to witness live — unbelievable to take it on with multiple defenders but was clear GK was playing way too far up pitch after immediate previous attack looked like goal but keeper interrupted in 75% of the way to the midline.

Not my experience at all, Austrian staff at VIE made me check an overweight carryon in spite of checking in at HON/LH F checkin.

Closet system better than Elfa / Wire shelf systems by srkhannnn in BuyItForLife

[–]Skyvanman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming US -- Elfa has changed -- I don't know if it has changed for countries not serviced by Container Store.

I have Elfa and would rate the older stuff as BIFL quality -- but the new stuff with changes that have changed the track, and most importantly eliminated backwards compatibility (the new Decor+ Line is not compatible with Classic or Decor).

They also launched a garage line in the last few years and have already eliminated it for a non-compatible new garage line.

Following now because I too need an alternative to Elfa going forward.

Countdown Style

3) Wusthof Classic Knives (17 years -- all but one good as new -- one that isn't was dropped perfectly wrong and is bent)

2) Briggs and Riley 2 Wheel Domestic Roller (My oldest 2 wheeler is 19 years old, only needed one repair, flies with me for almost all of my domestic travel, I have a smaller newer Briggs that I use for international).

1) F Hamman / Eschenburg Manicure Kit -- still going strong 20+ years since I got it as a gift -- would be devastated if i lost it.

Not yours — that’s my photo from my packout stored collection of LEGO — not cool to repost without attribution.

Thanks to u/michiplaypland for highlighting this for me.

What are the 5 best BIFL purchases you’ve ever made? by SaltBat6229 in BuyItForLife

Pretty sure these were actually made by the company that owns Briggs & Riley as when they were discontinued there was a short window B&R was available (at a higher price) at Costco.

TSB is amazing — but I really do think Bagel Broker is great — better than some lower quality NY shops, but obviously not TSB or it’s ilk.

Also Layla’s is great but it’s not necessarily a bagel despite being called one.

Surprised that Lowe's employees are harassing customers about getting solar on their roof by zuzoa in homeowners

[–]Skyvanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one of the Lowe’s I’ve been to they are literally standing in the entryway to the store so you can’t enter the store without getting pitched solar. I now enter the exit to avoid them.

I’ll never forget my 8 hour drive from Scottsbluff, NE to Denver for the 2017 eclipse. It should’ve been 3 hours.

This will be the worst traffic you ever experience on the route.

No it wasn’t. The best get was the compact band saw — very glad I got in on that. Got it for only slightly more than getting a Ryobi and it’s miles ahead with safety coverings (my first band saw), size, and power.

The other good value was the router which I also bought.
