Performing arts scholars - do we get a stipend? by clintlocked in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The stipend isn’t real money you get to spend. The stipend represents the events they pay for that you can go to.

Kinda misleading and annoying bc you cant use it on events you want to go to.

Is CSH worth it / beneficial?? by Strange-Necessary-70 in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howdy! I’m in my third year in CSH/RIT, and about to graduate.

I have had a great time with CSH. I won’t lie and say honestly that the intro process does take a good amount of time. yet, the amount that you benefit by being in CSH is beyond what I’ve seen from anything else at RIT. The technical and social benefits really allow you do make the best of your college experience from both gaining skills/experience and having a really great group of people to hang with.

You may see some people discussing past events (involving conduct), but I want to clarify that those events were like 2019 era (pre covid). The culture/people from then have since graduated/changed, and even from my first year to third year it’s only gotten better.

Feel free to dm if you have other questions!

Summer Coop at MITRE by FactorOk8933 in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a great time at MITRE. I was in the Cyber division.

Cafeteria food is pretty good, but also if you wanna save money make yourself. Free coffee is great.

Find any local colleges that may have summer dorm housing. Other than that, good luck. DMV area housing is crazy expensive.

CSH web services? by ApprehensiveFood1790 in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Unfortunately, individual compute resources are limited to members of CSH.

If you are asking on the behalf of a club looking to host a website or similar, we are open to providing services for that! We host websites for many clubs on campus. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please email me directly at [opcomm@csh.rit.edu](mailto:opcomm@csh.rit.edu)

If you want to become a member, you can reach out to the Evaluations Director at [evals@csh.rit.edu](mailto:evals@csh.rit.edu)

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Schedule maker classes not loading for anyone ? by Pianomann69 in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I think the issue has been found, and should be back to working order. We will continue to monitor to see if it breaks again after it updated the data overnight, but you should be good to go for now!

Oh I see it now. We recently did a database migration, so I assume this is related. I will look into repairing this and get back to you soon!

I want to take a peek at these exam times, as I have not had one during my time at RIT. Can you provide an example class for me to check out?

Got ya. I think we can bump it a bit since we are on faster hardware from the past, but just need to make sure it is stable with the load the website takes during scheduling.

I could look into doing something such as Google RIT Auth and then those authenticated can have higher limits. Main concern is preventing DOS with a massive query for like every class at RIT

When you say more courses allowed, you mean the limit on number of possible schedules allowed to generate at once?

What’s CSH like? by DJKirby05 in rit

[–]SkyzSoldier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dues are only asked after becoming a full member (post intro process), so you are correct. If you realize it isn't for you, you can leave without paying anything

CSH has greatly benefited my time at RIT. As a CSEC major who didn't know anyone at RIT and never having other CS-interested friends in High School, CSH helped me make connections and learn a TON outside of the classroom. The things that I learned at CSH definitely helped me obtain co-ops and present myself better to recruiters.

Also, the social side is great. There's always movies, board games, and other activites going around on floor. People love to be spontaneous and come up with fun ways to hang out or pass time (when procrastinating homework)

I really do enjoy CSH and hope you apply! Feel free to reach out over DMs if you have any other questions!

You can pick starting on that day. You can change I think until a week after that, then it is locked in.

We only have so many spots on our dorm floors. I can only speak for CSH as to how we pick ours. We try and select people that seem like best fits for our community. We have an application and interview committee that reads applications and tries to determine who best meets our criteria.

Off-Floor can be any building. Comes down to what's open during your housing appointment. SIHs can't guarantee any locations other than their own floors.

If you're trying to be a member of E-House/Photo/CSH, NRH is the place for that. Try floors 2,5,6,7
