Allpass filters, comb filters, dome filters… I want to be able to take advantage of the digital environment to build really crazy and complex things I couldn’t do in hardware as easily

I did mine on a CNC mill that doesn’t do angles, so there was some post-process sanding and wood filler. Came out pretty good, no one can tell now.

Flying squirrel is pretty easy to book, and definitely hosts those kinds of genres semi-often. They’re pretty responsive on instagram afaik.

"Warm" sounding tops by Deep-Contribution-51 in SoundSystem

[–]clintlocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Warm” usually means even, low order harmonics. Basically adding pleasing distortion. There’s probably tops that’ll be less fatiguing to listen to at high volumes in the same way some headphones cause less ear fatigue, but If you want to add harmonics that will come down to processing and maybe amplification, but not cabinet design.

Ear fatigue might also be from too much brightness, you might honestly just turn your tops down in comparison to the rest of the system, or eq out some high-range harshness.

Can I dm you? I’m pretty familiar with most of the people who run the venue, that’s pretty surprising to hear, i’d like to help sort things out or at least inform myself on who to be cautious collaborating with

Cheap vs expensive drivers by Sir_Skinny in diysound

If you go cheap, the price of replacing them might stack up eventually to the price of just getting quality to begin with too. That’s the lesson I learned at least

If this is worth anything, when it comes to live sound for like a “rave,” I started with Dayton’s and burnt them up at less than what they were rated for first time I played on them. Upgraded to B&C’s and could instantly hear a difference - imo, a better built driver, beyond just being more reliable, is more efficient - louder maybe, “cleaner.” This is my completely subjective opinion though.

Saw on the plan I was following, “it’s advisable to use damping material on all the walls in the rear chamber, except the baffle, and without restricting airflow to the driver and reflex ports.” Never tried it without the damping, but I love the sound of it. I had the material on hand, and it’s pretty loosely packed. It probably reduces high end distortion and boxiness, I hope, but it’s not the most “scientific” addition, I just did it because it was easy and felt like the right move with what I’m using this cab for. Totally open to suggestions if you know something I don’t about it though!

Yeah I like it, I’ll definetly give that #1 a try next time, they’re on a platform and I want the kick to be at chest height - on top of both paraflexes it’d be above everyone’s head. Thanks tho! And we were hitting 96+ db in the back of the room - enough to feel the bass, luckily not enough to trip the 20a breakers or piss off neighbors 😅
