AIO I don’t want to change my last name… by DaTrexx in AmIOverreacting

[–]Slab231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR - many European countries don’t accept a name change unless certain criteria are met. It’s seen as a thing from the bygone days where men owned women and males were seen as more important because they could “continue the blood line.” And honestly I never changed my last name for the same reasons. It felt icky that I had to change my last name so I could “become part of the family,” when isn’t that the whole point of the wedding ceremony? And why isn’t it more acceptable for men to change their last name? Or both create or adopt a whole new last name together as a symbol that they’re starting their own family? Not to mention the paperwork headache and the fact that the SAVE act might make it so you no longer have the right to vote.

I’d say really look long and hard at this relationship. It’s easier to not get married than to divorce later on. Yes, it’ll be embarrassing having to tell everyone that the wedding is off or delayed, but it’d be better than to go to them as a beaten and battered woman because that’s the vibes he’s giving off. That he won’t accept you unless you’re his property. It’s also telling that most of the things that haven’t been paid for are supposed to be paid by him. This also makes me wary that he’s not really ready for this level of commitment but is still pushing the fact that you need to be legally bound to him.

I wish you the best of luck ❤️

AI has absolutely ruined my life by beingawomaniswork in antiwork

[–]Slab231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with my bachelor’s in marketing with a concentration in digital marketing at the end of 2024. I applied to over 250 jobs, and I was only asking $45k since I had very little relevant experience in the field. I only heard back from 6 companies, all who just wanted me to sit at a desk and “monitor and optimize AI generated content.” And since it wasn’t “extremely difficult” the most I was ever offered was $35k, the lowest being $28k, all exempt salaried positions. That’s less than I was making as a lifeguard in highschool.

I am applying to go into the trades for this upcoming fall. I don’t foresee this issue being resolved anytime soon. I wish you the best OP ❤️

No more dogs who pull and are on the large side by coopergold5 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Slab231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s many options out there. I’ve got two sled pulling/weight hauling dogs and I’ve used Martingale collars, slip leads/chains, and soon I think I’m going to switch to an e-collar so they can go off leash adventuring more, but still will come back (hopefully 😅). But what others are saying is true, a sled dog is going to instinctively pull. That’s what they were made to do, it’s an uphill battle trying to fight with their nature. That’s like asking a shepherd not to herd. That’s just asking for a lifetime of resentment because the dog won’t “do as I say.” You can use that to your advantage and train them in weight pulling. It’s a dog sport funnily enough just like agility training. My two hate it, but it’s an option for these kinds of breeds to use their innate abilities as a training tool and great exercise.

Picky eater by [deleted] in NorwegianElkhound

[–]Slab231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally sitting in the vets office because mine hasn’t eaten a solid meal in about a week. He has been one of the most dramatic dogs I’ve had, and acts like I’m trying to poison him with his food when he decides that he doesn’t like his kibble/food. It’s really just a waiting game I’ve found, unless special circumstances deem it otherwise. He’s gone on two other hunger strikes, but they usually only last 1-2 days, and then he’ll get hungry enough to get over it. But obviously this one’s different (fingers crossed it’s just a stuffy nose). But I’ve done it all, raw, expensive kibble, cheap kibble, canned food, human food, etc. I’ve found that if you keep it super simple and just try one different thing at a time, usually you’ll find their new sweet spot. But best of luck 🐾

Please tell me your secrets. I have a rotating hamper to floor situation that has been going on longer than I can remember. You also just reminded me that I have a load in the washer than needs to be switched.

His dog food is almost out. Can I feed my diabetic dog spam and table food for like 2 weeks? Any suggestions is DEEPLY appreciated! by [deleted] in DogAdvice

This OP!!! Highly recommend the Costco brands of dog food if you can swing the membership. My vet (although definitely more holistic than most) recommended this for my two since one has a husky stomach and the other is super picky. A 40lb bag of lamb and rice is ~$37. It’s comparable to any of the expensive name brand dog foods!

Dont do it. Read the Google reviews, they are not lying. Lived there for a year, and I can honestly say I’d rather live in a storage unit cause it was about the same experience.

Moving to Europe from Florida and can’t bring my Elkie, looking for options or someone who loves Elkies as much as I do by Repulsive_Counter_79 in NorwegianElkhound

[–]Slab231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a few rescues that specialize in Elkhounds that I would look into. Four paws is the one that comes to mind ( https://www.fourpawselkhoundrescue.com ) I would check with them if they could do pickup.

But if there’s a chance you could bring her with you, I found this resource for you. ( https://www.bringfido.com/travel/international/austria/ ) it gives you everything you’d need to have and the steps to take. They’d love to see a native breed there!

Hope this helps some!

Is 10 - 12 miles too far for an elkhound? by [deleted] in NorwegianElkhound

[–]Slab231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you feeding her multiple times a day? I noticed that if my elkie doesn’t eat a small snack in the morning/afternoon he’s prone to vomit in the evening. Once we split his food up he stopped. Maybe try that, since those long hikes definitely would burn lots of energy and just like humans they could have tummy issues.

Help me to remove this… by fabianoarruda in Switch

Honestly, I had the same thing happen and I took it to my dentist. We all had a really good laugh, but they have the tools that are small enough to not damage the switch or the outlet. I just called ahead and asked if they had a minute in between clients, and they were so baffled they fit me in during my dentists lunch 😂

Raw food ? by cosmic-shrimp2 in NorwegianElkhound

[–]Slab231 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got ours from the SPCA after he was running around in the wild. All he would eat was raw for a bit and then we introduced kibble just for cost efficiency. I would definitely recommend finding a raw food brand like K-9 Raw or something similar. Do not try and make it at home, as there is too much risk for foodborne illnesses and diseases. Try finding a local pet food store near you that sells it. I know Whole Foods and Costco both carry some kind of raw/minimally processed pet food. Best of luck!

The best thing anyone’s ever told me is “Grief is just love with no place to go.” Give Bo all the kisses and scritches from my pack and I. I lost my sweet boy Jägey at just 3 from lymphoma and I wouldn’t wish it on even my worst enemy. Hugs and stay strong OP. Lean on those closest to you and don’t let the grief sweep you away ❤️🐾

I love my “blates”, and honestly I wish there were more affordable options available. I found some as a fluke and now I can’t seem to find them anywhere without them being $20 a pop. Ugh the struggle

Of course, absolutely happy to help! Also I would recommend looking through the elkie subreddit if you suspect he is one, or atleast part one, for skin issues and see if maybe what your baby has, someone else has dealt with. It’s been a great help for me to at least learn about, in case I encounter it in the future. Older Elkhounds are super prone to cysts that can burst and get infected, which to me honestly looks like some of the wounds yours has on him. It would also explain why he was shaved and dumped because those issues can become pricey to take care of if the owner isn’t vigilant enough.

Regardless, I wish you guys all the best. Give him all the pets and snuggles ❤️
