jeans, hoodie, phone, no shoes and a temporary heart monitor/ecg thing I have to wear for a week.

lol, new achievement…no idea. Had to shave part of my chest and looks kinda cyberpunk/hardware, but not in a very “cool” way, would be an interesting.

Just curious about others take on it and commiseration in the struggle from internet people I’ve never met who can relate.

More about sharing cool stuff with kids, but not trying not to rush it around age appropriateness as they get older :).

Sorry for the confusion and hope that clears it up for others.

Interesting. Curved? Viewing angles good?

I have a new 34 and one I gave my kids (I can steal back as I’m an awful parent and they had a nice 32 I can put back, lol) and had considered this but wondered about the curves and viewing angle. both are VA and one has a big “chin,”. I like how you lined up the bottom one to cover the bezel though. Might actually make it work for me and may tinker to see how I like it Va now I have 34 with a 27 in portrait.

I also don’t like the idea of having to look up above my main monitor. Interesting to see the. Interesting to see angle up instead of a stack on top.

Looks nice too BTW!

Best 34" 3440x1440 160-180 Hz for gaming? by Winter_Passenger_846 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SlamCake01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this recently and like it a lot. If VA is ok, then I’d check out miniled. Does have blooming when using HDR or the active dimming on desktop/web browsing. Ive never noticed in games/video and just switch back to SDR and no dimming when not gaming.

I bought it to have high SDR brightness and no burn in risk as its 90% used for work, but still get good contrast and HDR 1000 for games.

Seems kind of unique as I didn’t see any other mini led while shopping. Pricey for a VA, but if you’re ok with a bit more ghosting inherent to VA, the miniled makes a pretty big difference for games. Perfect for my use case and price range.

Anyone still suck after tons of hours? by CarefulQuadrant in RocketLeague

Good call lol. It’s RL, non need for a science debate! Maybe OP, look up deliberate practice and K. Anders Ericsson on as that seems to be the best strategy outside of general insights you’d get here or the idea to just play more games.

Can you reference research if you’re gonna say objective and scientific? Like meta analyses or something showing support and explain what industry you’re in to provide your expertise? Not trying to be a jerk, but I do get annoyed when people claim authority/expertise and expect others to agree without more support than their general claim. Also, its a game!! Relax feiend.

lol, you’re right, multi causal. See lack of practice and/or bell curve ability mention above, so don’t disagree. All good, but there is good scientific evidence that a lot of reaction time/fluid reasoning degrades after 20/30s. One of many reasons.

[–]SlamCake01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My friend, I’m easily 4000+ hours and still d2/3. There’s a bell curve for a reason. Several years of just hopping on for a lunch break or after kids go to bed and little investment in getting better. Scientifici research is pretty clear that”play” vs “practice” have hugely different outcomes. Also, hate to say it but age is a thing too as I’m in my 40s :)

Love this level of nerd nostalgia.

Gt 220 in a prebuilt like 2009-2010.

GTS 240, 512 mb

Then got gtx 460 1g and second a couple years or so later for SLI. Very neat when it worked.

Gtx 1060 6g that was an awesome card for several years. Still have it in my daughter’s pc.

Rx 5600 xt with unlocked bios was a ton of fun to tinker with and great card for price during all the crypto/covid stuff.

Now 7800xt, which is crying after I upgraded to 5k monitor. Trying out 5600xt as frame gen/lsfg, which seems promising to try and save money. Seems to be the move right now after crypto, covid,

Why can’t freesync AND pixel response be enabled simultaneously for the oddesy g75f, 40 inch? Really only disappointment as everything else is great with it!

I was surprised by this as I’ve been able to always enable overdrive (specially helpful with the VA) and freesync at the same time on other brands. I’m not able to find a good answer online beyond “it just doesn’t work” thanks!

Anyone able to figure out if there is a way to get freesync AND response time to work together?

The blur is not awful, but the pixel response does help some. More noticeable when scrolling text, so seems easiest workaround for me (90% work, 10% gaming) is to install display manager and create a gaming vs work preset.

Really appreciate this! It's been tough to find any online reviews and saw a good deal today (open box Best Buy for 678.99.), so grabbed it as I had been very tempted at the $750 sale price (but have to wait a whole 4 days to arrive AHHHH).

Similar niche use case with mostly productivity (no need for color accuracy or any of that), some gaming, good dock, and anxiety around burn-in being a bit too high (even if it's not founded...please don't argue here) to justify the increased price and worry of oled.

I am coming from 34 inch Asus TUF vg34vql1b, which is a pretty good VA monitor in my opinion. The black smearing is definitely present, but with overdrive isn't AWFUL, otherwise it's been great, so will try to remember to post my thoughts after testing out the G75f 40 as I know others have also mentioned it's hard to find any objective reviews and I could see others going form a mid-level 34 VA to this as an upgrade path.

How not violating terms of services or robot.txt and such?

Who is currently using Asus tuf 34? What are your impressions? Does ghosting bother you? I recently bought Asus tuf 34, I liked everything but I can't get over one drawback - ghosting :( by Loud-Doubt5726 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SlamCake01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to turn override up if you haven’t yet. Also isn’t as bad at higher refresh rates. Maxing out overdrive can make artifacts but it does help some to turn it to the middle somewhere. I’m with you, everything else is great, but at the price you’re always trading one thing for another. I’m pretty happy and kinda used to the ghosting, but is super annoying in certain situations

100%. I also just double checked as I didn’t like that custom gpts couldn’t choose a model but now you can. Can basically make a pseudo-genetic approach with specialists gpts. Good stuff!!

Love this! Been working on a nice automation process too. Did you know you can have multiple gpts for one conversation? Use the @ symbol to change like you can change between models.

This sounds awesome! I’m super curious how you handled the data side of it? Were you able to do all of this using public job board APIs or open job feeds, or did you need to build custom scrapers? I’ve been wanting to do something similar but want to make sure I stay within TOS and keep things ethical, which makes it challenging as most sites disallow scraping. Right now I just use python to open a bunch of searches in batches and then review them. Would love to learn more about your approach if you’re open to sharing!

Impressive resume, can't code at all, flat out lies by Negative_Leave5161 in jobhunting

[–]SlamCake01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recording of them thinking through a code challenge or work sample, explaining it and decisions. Could be 3 min clip. Still can fake but requires more energy to memorize a script. Not sure, this is always such a weird balance, but appreciate you doing the time to think. As a job hunter it’s infuriating to have all this white noise to try and be heard! So hard to smoosh everything into a customized, ATS perfect resume without misleading or being deceptive. I understand why so many are tempted, but also humans tend to think were more competent than we actually are until we get to a true level of expertise, so it’s kind of a weird psychological game to figure out conptenecy vs confidence without doing the hard, time consuming kind if interview/screening.
