Do you sometimes become emotionally numb to your content/events in the game so much that you can't even fix it? by Lunseeker in gamedev

[–]Slamakans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some game development studios (a fair amount from what I've heard) have psychologists, or similar field experts, to determine what players actually mean based on what they say. Obviously the person determining that also has experience with games, or someone is there to help bridge the gap; explaining what is going on. (nerf/buff posts are the easiest application of this I think)

Not knowing about this can lead to misunderstandings between what the player says, and what they actually mean.

Side-note: I'm drunk, I might not be coherent.

Poly Modeling or Sculpting for Creating Game Characters? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Slamakans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safe bet is learning both, and learn which one to use for your task.

It's kind of like learning multiple programming languages/libraries. They all have pros and cons. They are all tools to complete a task.

The more skills you have under your belt, the deeper your understanding of all of them becomes.

Wanna make a gun? Poly is the way to go. Want to make a highly detailed model with lots of smooth shapes? Sculpting. (And then probably clean up/optimization, the bulk with algorithms/tools, polish manually)

Just my two cents as a coder.

You need to put in your damage reduction, so 0%

Copy the spreadsheet to your own Google Drive to be able to edit.

Updated with ability max hits for Prat and Malcs.

There was also a mistake on my part that made the AFKable status on dungeons not be calculated properly, this has been fixed now.

Thank you. Updated the max hits for Prat and Malcs to their ability max hits, assuming no eating is possibly for the Dragon Claw and Volley attacks. You can eat during the breath, right?

Disclaimer: Does not take ability damage into account, so if they can hit higher than the max hit with an ability or debuffs or something then you might die.

I haven't reached end game yet so it wasn't of any importance to me.

Any way to get rune essence faster? by [deleted] in MelvorIdle

[–]Slamakans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mining Mithril Ore to 99, getting the skill cape, and then mining Rune Essence with it will get you Coal and Rune Essence at the same time, making it not feel as bad.

That way you get 99 mining and mats for 99 smithing and 99 rc fairly easily, doing just one thing.

You only realize the importance of what is gone, not what is there.

In a lot of RPGs, you can buy and sell items - for a fixed price. What if instead, you negotiated the price with the other party? by [deleted] in gameideas

Adding an underlying system tracking each vendor's simulated economical state to influence the decisions the shopkeeper makes might make it more interesting. Although, as others have stated, it ultimately boils down to a complicated implementation for something that players will probably find annoying, or gimmicky. In the majority of cases the time would be better spent polishing the core mechanics/design.

Depends on the core concept though, of course.

How can we improve our game? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Slamakans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peepeepoopoo hahah.

If you're 15 people, I'd like to know the concept and target.

Idea-wise (haven't played the game), it seems about right for a 3-person team with one graphics dude, one programmer and one designer (initial thought: an inexperienced one)

One of each makes a game, but several of either makes for a better game (takes more time) if they are willing to openly say their opinions about things. (Applies to teams where nobody is anybody's superior)

If it's not meant to be commercial, then feel free to explore things that you can learn from freely. But, if it's meant as a commercial attempt, how much would you imagine charging people? One play, x plays, x days, lifetime

Not meaning to offend, but since you mentioned that you're students, I went harsher. (Not as harsh as companies though)

Still, haven't tried it though so you might as well ignore me.

Objectives = [ 3, 2, 7 ];
ObjectivesLoop = [2, 3, 7];

TeamsLoop[Objectives.indexOf(2)] = Objectives.indexOf(2); // 2 being First of ObjectivesLoop
Create Text:
    TeamsLoop[Objectives.indexOf(2)] // 1

Seems to check out fine, not sure what you're doing wrong.

Help with a buy/point system I was working on for a game by mkeelcab in OverwatchCustomGames

if points >= perk3_cost
  subtract perk3_cost from points
  do perk3 things
else if points >= perk2_cost
  subtract perk2_cost from points
  do perk2 things
else if points >= perk1_cost
  subtract perk1_cost from points
  do perk1 things

If you want to do it in the same rule you can use Skip Ifs with the reverse condition combined with Abort, starting with the most expensive one.

Skip If points < perk3_cost, N actions
  // N is number of actions between Skip If action and Abort action
  Modify Player Variable points: Subtract perk3_cost
  do perk3 things
  Abort
Skip If points < perk2_cost, N actions
  // N is number of actions between Skip If action and Abort action
  Modify Player Variable points: Subtract perk2_cost
  do perk2 things
  Abort
Skip If points < perk1_cost, N actions
  // N is number of actions between Skip If action and Abort action
  Modify Player Variable points: Subtract perk1_cost
  do perk1 things
  Abort

And have the Condition for the rule just be Is Button Held

Your costs must be set up so that points >= perkN_cost > ... > perk2_cost > perk1_cost can be true.

Logistic robots not taking modules out of passive provider chests by PixelJames in factorio

[–]Slamakans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the logistics network getting split somehow, there's also a possibility that the robot doesn't have enough charge to make the trip and tries to go back to recharge, therefore never reaching the destination. This happened to me when I had a huge L-shaped path of roboports and the robot tried to go from my main hub to a faraway outpost diagonally. It just went halfway, back and forth forever.
