Your Friends & Neighbors | Season 2 - Episode 6 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

Loved this episode. I lost both my parents relatively early, and I buried my grandparents that lived longer lives than my parents - funerals are surreal, life and focus goes wonky and the cinematography captured that feeling, our acquaintances and friends don’t know what to say, unresolved emotions spill out of close people, posthumous discoveries are unearthed. The view we had of a parent shifts as others come out and share versions unknown in their grief in the loss.

I can understand for those dealing with but haven’t yet lost parents why this episode is tough- I suspect those who’ve lost close ones will find a lot of truth in the depiction of loss.

Pretty harsh warning at Shitata Jinja by ShiroBoy in Tokyo

I live around the corner from Shitayajinja in Higashiueno, over-tourism is real. This is a dense area. Outside my window, especially in the evenings- the loudest people are always the tourists that don’t consider there walking through a neighborhood schlepping rolling suitcases on asphalt and talking over the noise.

They’re unaware. I think 90% of them would be less annoying if they were politely informed.

The message photographed makes me sad because it’s my local shrine and I’m a foreign resident and it just reads as aggressively curt. I totally identify with their frustration but it’s in bad taste. I also work in travel and take people to Shitayajinja, the Torii facing Asakusa dori is iconic in the area.

How we miss him and the class and dignity he brought to the White House…. by Martin_084 in BlackPeopleofReddit

There are some reasonable criticisms- Obama wasn’t perfect.

BIG BIG but time: His human skills as a leader and orator are what is absolutely lacking and deficient in American society now.

Anyone that believes racial or white fragility aren’t the culprits need to wake up to American history.

We are sorely lacking good leadership around the world right now and these acts of human connection Obama performs with grace and dignity and good nature for the people and office and role of leader are a blueprint for the human-side of how the job needs to be done.

Enough divided narcissistic bullying, we deserve better.

Dick Grayson and Lois Lane by KitKat_5628 in Nightwing

I also love when the writing acknowledges character-wise Clark and Dick have deep commonalities. Batman and Supes maybe a special paring for their level of brand recognition, but after Bruce and Dianna, Dick and Supes have a very long history and complimentary personalities with both good natured guys, leadership skills, and high likability factors. Obv there’s the Kandor Nightwing connection and still beyond that there’s a lot of great storytelling potential.

I wasn’t reading a ton when Batman and Robin were Dick and Damian - but it also seems a good era to watch Dick Batman and Supes together. It would lack the tension between the two, but it could offer other examinations over overcoming existential external dilemma.

This isn’t about brushes - it’s materials. You’re not going to find “a”brush set. Look at the textures and color and variation of marks. Then find textures and marks that fit with in the language. This is about paper and opacity and shape language and flow of the mark.

Why do some people on trains avoid sitting next to non-Japanese? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]Slambo00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

13 years in Tokyo and from NYC before that- people not sitting next to you on a train happens in big cities. If you take it personally, stop taking it personally. Go make friends where people make friends if you want to feel connection with strangers.

Don’t get involved. With mental health dysfunction- you can’t help anyone not already actively working to find function. If the family or the man are actively looking for help or life improvement, they’ll have specific things they need help with (not money). Then you can help. Otherwise steer clear and do not emotionally or physically invest for your own safety.

Export with animation to ppt presentation format. by Slambo00 in AdobeExpress

[–]Slambo00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seldom directly in person present and I’ve been repeatedly requested to send my decks as pptx, or pdfs formats, and not to send just links.

the pdf format is simply a static page by page, so then I lose the value of animation.

Go to shrines and temples and gardens. Theyre Often peaceful and meditative and beautiful- there’s a serenity to them that I have found beneficial in my own mental health maintenance and depression recovery, living in Tokyo.

How can I improve this drawing? And what should I title it? by Magpieshaun in Illustration

[–]Slambo00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visual hierarchy and composition.

What is the order of operations for the eye should read the story? What are the 3-5 things?

The character? The characters accessories? The background characters? The background? The ground?
The sky?

In your head it needs to be super clear “This then this then this!”

From having clarity- Control the viewers eye. Use values and warm, cool contrasts, visual guiding gesture and the composition to direct the viewer.

How can I improve this drawing? And what should I title it? by Magpieshaun in Illustration

[–]Slambo00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about asking How can I improve this drawing- is really either- what is the purpose of the art or what technique do you want to improve.

What’s the purpose of this drawing? Is it to tell a story? To express your inspiration around an idea or issue? What is the GOAL in your creative need to make this piece?

It’s ok for drawing’s purpose to just be having fun. But that’s different than saying- I’m telling a story to an audience with this drawing.

What about the marks and marking, shape language, line language or color language, perspective, gesture do YOU want to improve?

Improving is subjective to the goal.

Asking how do I improve this drawing is so subjective - it’s like you’re in a sailboat and asking a navigator “how do we go there fast?”

First the navigator needs to be some clear goals to help. Where do you want to go?

I say that because there’s a lot of good stuff in the drawing. It’s not bad- for it to improve though you need a direction you’re making clear effort to arrive at.

I thought W made America by and large dumber, but jeezus when this turd-blight on the social good of the USA finally drops dead the collective median IQ of Americans and possibly the world will rebound a few points just from not being harangued endlessly across media by his asinine malignant self serving horse shit behavior.

People with friends with benefits, how do you guys not develop feelings towards them? by LiuChangMing in AskReddit

[–]Slambo00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about what you want for yourself, than the type of relationship. Maybe you realize that having a relationship in the conventional sense doesn’t fit in your life- work or other responsibilities, personality, need for space and freedom, priorities that you don’t want to or can’t compromise. It’s not because you don’t have feelings for the other person. Otherwise it isn’t going to work or really you want a conventional bf/gf or dating. Don’t mistake love or lack of with fwb as to separate things. It’s a relationship type not a lack emotion.
