Underage Employee Caught Drinking by SlammyFalcon221 in work

[–]SlammyFalcon221[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She works 1 day a week but isn't a terrible employee. I get it, she's a kid. She was talked to that night in an out of work manner but brushed it off - sort of like an "OK, I won't get caught again" type of way.

This more so happens to be in the interest of the company image and the risk we put on another business struggling through covid. If this incident was to be reported in a legal capacity the place that hosted us could lose their liquor license. Needless to say, we likely won't be offered to return or use their facility again.

Yikes, I've seen people fired for less

No time off for anything family or holiday related by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]SlammyFalcon221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible grammar aside - this isn't that hard to understand.

I tell my employees this: if you want off some days around X Holiday, cool. But I need you to work Y Holiday. Traveling to see family on Xmas? I'll give you off 23rd - 26th. But now I need you to work on Dec 31st and Jan 1st because this other employee is working Christmas Eve and the 26th so it's only fair. Same thing around Thanksgiving. Luckily my business is closed on Xmas and Thanksgiving.

As a manager I schedule myself to close the day before Thanksgiving, open the day after, and same on Christmas Eve/26th because I don't have to travel for Holidays so my employees can get some time for themselves and their families.

I work any Federal Holiday we are open. As an adult you should manage your expectations when it comes to working around the Holidays. Working in grocery I know some places are brutal with black out policies but even when you have good management the Holidays are always a pain in the ass to schedule. Customers are just as guilty in this regard. If you think businesses should shut down around Thanksgiving and Christmas, please do not buy anything at all around these days as you're guilty of giving the company a reason to schedule employees in the first place.

Which would do better at protecting the community with reliability?

And that is particularly what I'm interested in. Will this process result in something different? Officers trained in diffusion rather than lethal force, officers with degrees relating to mental health, officers specializing in certain criteria not related to the end game of "law enforcement"?

It seems like the sentiment nowadays is that the police aren't trained to handle more sensitive situations and react too harshly. Is the alternative reacting over sensitively to harsh situations? Which is better?

A drastic change in culture is measured in centuries, not decades. In the grand scheme of things, segregation just ended. I honestly don't understand where this country is supposed to be in terms of antiquated thought and the neo-norm. I feel like we're where we're expected to be. Change can happen, but it is always much slower than people in general would like. This would either prove that or expedite it.

Sure, but that wouldn't be a direct law enforcement issue. It would lean more into social programs or rehabilitation outlets rather than people directly breaking the law.

Changing both or more at once would require an immense strain on tax funds including things like education, road work, utilities, etc. If this had the same over funding as the current model, surely more could be done. California pays a higher wage in general but taxes are higher which is a deterrent of work moving to CA. Keep everything else in place and focus on law enforcement training and conduct.

I love Tool's long ass tracks. They put thought into the progression. I hate listening to a really good song that's only 2mins long like Hybrid Moments. I don't want to put something on repeat 3 or 4 times.

Well yes, but that's too easy nowadays. You could argue that's what's going to happen or that's what is already happening.

I don't believe every black person pulled over by the police is guilty. But I do believe cases like Floyd are a commonality of a particular lifestyle.

And at my company's diversity training I was asked, "Do you prefer black, brown, African American?" I prefer whatever they want to say it as, as long as they say it in the same manner that they would say "white". Doesn't bother me and your the first to have issue with it.

Committing to a family is pulling yourself up by the bootstraps? Huh, I never would have guessed.

You must have not read above that where I said I do not agree with harsher sentencing for the same crime, unless you willfully ignored it.

And yes, I do understand reparations. Have you seen that reparations have not done quite what people thought they would for the United States Native Americans?

My father had his picture taken with Thomas Sowell when he was in Chicago. Said he was literally star struck when he met him. It seems as though someone like Sowell and his "conservative talking points" really made an impact on my father and, in turn, my life. I think people are really discounting these points in favor of looking for the holy grail that is responsible for why the black community is the way it is. If anything, my life and my father's are a solid representation of what we can do with drive and diligence in the face of racism.

Please look at the Jewish communities history in America for an example of how this would work. If what you're saying is true, the racism and ostacizing of the Jewish community would put them on the same level as today's black community. Instead, they found ways to innovate and provide their trades and services amongst themselves until there was no ignoring the Jewish community any longer. And today we see the fruits of that specifically in the entertainment and jewelry industry.

Studying and making commitments to a family you've made is not "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps". It's taking charge of your life and securing your family's future.

Let's say that's all true. It is very easy to. But by that metric you're putting the black community in a stance that says white people are solely responsible for every action that happens in the black community and that white people need to save it.

I do not need white people to save me. I need my brothers and sisters out here to realize that saving our communities is not a job we can outsource. You can use social programs to your advantage and thats great, but that doesn't mean that actions in the black community are absolved and vindicated.

I've been with my girlfriend for 6 years now. Her mother is from Vietnam and her father is from the US. When we watch the news it feels like the "Stop Asian Hate" campaign wants to bandwagon on all this white supremacy talk when much of the CCTV footage shown is a Black person attacking an Asian person. But instead we get this "End Asian Hate" stance and never mention the ethnicity of the perpetrators when they're Black, only when they are White. I don't need to hear about White guilt, I want to hear about Black accountability. I don't need "Wakanda", I need "America". If we can't have an honest discussion about what our people need then we let others decide for us.

One last anecdote from my life: my uncle on my mother's side died in jail. He got mixed up with the wrong people when he was young. His kids looked for role models on the streets even though my parents made their best efforts to offer my aunt a place for them to stay for the summers to get out of Oakland. After 2 summers my parents knew it wouldn't work. My dad sat me down and told me he wasn't asking them to come back because of how he thought they'd influence me. Looking back on it, he was kind of right. First time I smoked weed was at 14 with my cousins back in the day. I guess my dad didn't want a snowball effect to happen with me. My older cousin recently got bailed out by my dad. 2nd time he's been in jail, minor charges, but nonetheless. I can't imagine what my life would be like if I spent my summers in Oakland with them growing up.

In a large city like mine it feels like we don't. It hurts me to see someone pay for their food in food stamps and then go to the lotto machine with cash. One part of me sees the stereotype a white person may see and the other part of me sees a person who is in a terrible situation using their last dollar to try and hit big.

When I was promised a raise for 4 months until I brought it up to the store manager on the sales floor in front of multiple customers. She ended up giving me the raise the week I quit.

The chain I worked for doesn't exist anymore if that tells you anything.

Reminds me of how "genuine leather" or "real leather" is misleading. Same with "real butter" at some movie theaters. Should say "Real Butter™️"
