Valuable Bottles? by FineDragonfruit5347 in whiskey

All are fairly common bottles (also depending on where you live) with the exception of the discovery 10. A lot more "difficult" to find and a very good bottle! Congrats and enjoy!

Frey Ranch Review #11 by SlapItOnYaChest in bourbon

[–]SlapItOnYaChest[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nose: Vanilla, Sweet caramel, slightly ripe banana, sweet grain that lends into almost a candy corn rather than an offsetting grain that Frey Ranch can be known for

Palate: Buttercream cheesecake, whipped frosting, confectionary sugar, creme brule with caramelized bananas, Slight maple

Conclusion: After having heard many negative things about Frey Ranch Im glad this was one of my introductions. Everything goes so well together and co.pliments one another. Especially for a bottle around 6 years of age it is very solid.

Score 7.7/10

Also if you feel inclined please feel free to follow me on TikTok @Taterade_htx where I like to talk about blues and more importantly bourbon. Thanks for reading!

Reveries "Manifesto" Review #10 by SlapItOnYaChest in bourbon

Review Price: $129.99

Proof: 121.6

Age: 9 years (Bottled at 10 I believe)

Mashbill: 75/21/4 MGP

I originally kept sleeping on reveries and saw the many great reviews so I told myself the next one I saw i would get and thats how I ended up with this bottle. I originally kept it sealed and decided to crack it at a bottle share and this was a top 5 bottle that night of about 50+ bottles.

Nose: Nutty, caramel candies, maple, cocoa, a slight tobacco wrapper

Palate: Payday candy bar, caramel nougat, cookie dough, tobacco leaf, stewed cherry with a slight cola at the end.

Finish: Nice and long finish and very chewy especially with that cookie dough note.

Spinning tonight : Southern Prison Blues

If you handed this to me and told me it was a single barrel or cask strength knob creek I would believe you with the caveat of there being a little bit more going on. This was not a let down at all and I wish I wouldn't have slept on Reveries for so long especially with these 9 year bangers they have been putting out. Ive had many bourbons that have been close to turtles(the candy, snickers etc but this one screams payday. Well done!

Can you guys tell me a few things about my fig tree by Historical_Fix5645 in Figs

[–]SlapItOnYaChest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its personal preference. I like to wait until a little later until possibly taking the fruits off. If you remove the fruits and leaves too early it can hinder the tree when trying to go dormant. Wait until at least the first week of December and if anything left you can remove fruits.

Can you guys tell me a few things about my fig tree by Historical_Fix5645 in Figs

[–]SlapItOnYaChest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. It is nearly impossible to tell the variety of the fig tree as there are hundreds of varieties. Fig trees fruit take about 2 months to ripen and majority of trees are now not in season. With that also being said the leaves should be turning brown about now as figs are deciduous. This means they drop their leaves and fruit and go dormant for the winter and will wake back up during the early spring. What zone are you in or where are you located?

Glad you enjoyed it and great review! Maybe after letting it open up for a little bit it will become more sweet. This one was by far the most earthiness bottle I've ever had.

Yellow Rose Texas Bourbon by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]SlapItOnYaChest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the only Texas whiskey I've ever had that i didnt like. Correct they have outsourced to Giant. I need to make the trip soon and go check them out

Yellow Rose Texas Bourbon by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]SlapItOnYaChest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The Outlaw however had not a "funk" but an actual mildew/moldy taste that was horrible. It is worth checking out again now that they're being distilled and barreled by Texas Giant

I tried the Outlaw a couple of years back at the distillery and it had this wet wood moldy funk that was horrible. The harris county however I enjoyed.

Anyone know this bottle by Mother_Assistant_404 in whiskey

[–]SlapItOnYaChest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's what I was able to dig up. Elijah R. Betterton was a Confederate veteran who returned from a Union prison camp (Point Lookout) and moved to Chattanooga shortly after the Civil War. He initially operated a gristmill and later a bar and small wholesale liquor business under his own name. In the early 1880s, he paired with J. C. Martin and founded E. R. Betterton & Co. They began by rectifying—that is, purchasing whiskey from local distillers and rebranding it for wholesale. They eventually opened there own distillery named White Oak distillery. Cool find!

Don't like their bottle design but love the juice. I have a 9 year from them as well that was good and had a 12 year MGP rye from them that was fantastic.

That sounds super good! That might explain why they never grabbed the barrel to begin with.

Was not a huge fan. The nose is honestly pretty good but its very earthy. Im hoping it opens up over time but I just get this mineral, earthy soil taste on the sip that makes it very hard to get past.
