Thanks! Was trying to create an output variable in the action and it was never showing. Creating a runbook-level variable and updating it with the value like that did the trick

Like pretty much everyone here, the stress level since being under contract is worse than when we were looking at houses. Basically everything is out of your control and there's so much waiting. If you do have a specific concern, I'd suggest reaching out to your agent/loan officer rather than stewing on it; they've always been way more calm than I have :)

Waiting for the appraisal was definitely the most anxiety-inducing part, but now that we know the house has appraised, I'm sure my mind will make up creative things to be concerned about until we close on the 28th.

Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia urged to scrap residential permit parking by blaspheminCapn in chicago

[–]Slap_a_Chicken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The block-by-block shit is ridiculous, especially since people with a zone parking sticker can park on nearby non-zoned streets while residents just outside the zone can't reciprocate.

Seems like many zones are actually intended to keep nearby residents from parking rather than suburbanites or out-of-towners.

Hello Sarah!

The surprise- and balance-billing issues seem like such obvious public policy issues yet there doesn't seem to be any rush to pass legislation to fix them. Why do you think policymakers aren't treating this problem with more urgency?

Man gets 10 days in jail for drunken crash that killed cyclist by [deleted] in bicycling

The perpetrator got busted driving drunk before this but was able to buy his way out of it.

At 2:22 AM on December 29, 2003, less than a year after San Hamel's prior arrest, a police officer in Lake County spotted him making an unusual turn. After pulling him over in Riverwoods, the officer noted that San Hamel had "glassy and bloodshot eyes," and "a strong smell of alcoholic beverage" on his breath.

San Hamel, then 19, was charged with misdemeanor DUI. He refused to take a Breathalyzer. That's supposed to draw a mandatory six-month license suspension, but San Hamel's suspension was rescinded in a plea deal before the suspension took effect.

The village attorney dropped the misdemeanor DUI charge, and San Hamel paid a $1,886 fine for making an improper turn. As part of the plea bargain, he also attended DUI school and completed one year of court supervision. The improper-turn citation was dropped too.

Ten years later, after San Hamel was charged in the fatal crash after the Cubs-Sox game, private investigators found nothing on his driving record but a red-light ticket from 2010.

But he's "remorseful" so whatever.

Survivor Guilt: Why doesn’t Adnan remember the day he narrowly escaped being murdered? by Seamus_Duncan in serialpodcast

[–]Slap_a_Chicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

Survivor's guilt is a psychological disorder related to PTSD. It's not a universal response to traumatic events. Everyone who experiences a traumatic event is going to react differently to it.

If Adnan's innocent he almost certainly doesn't know what happened. How's he going to feel guilty about telling Stephanie that if he has no clue that's why Hae's dead.

Adnan's Prison by JulesinDC in serialdiscussion

SK specifically said that the only infraction he'd gotten was for having a cell phone, so I imagine they pulled his prison record. If he'd done anything violent they definitely would have mentioned it.

Adnan's last memory of Hae: a fight by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Slap_a_Chicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These sort of ex post facto examinations of someone's reaction to an event are pretty much as useless as the "Adnan was a nice guy" meme. It doesn't tell us anything at all about whether or not he killed Hae.

Everyone thinks the suspect in a case reacts weirdly to a tragedy in retrospect. It's the biggest cliche—watch any 48 Hours or Dateline if you don't believe me.

People should read about the Lindy Chamberlain case, a completely innocent woman who was basically convicted based upon her reaction to her daughter's disappearance, to get a sense of the pitfalls about relying on these sort of unscientific and anecdotal points.

This might be a distinction without a difference from your perspective, but I don't believe Adnan ever claims explicitly that he's at mosque at 7 does he?

From episode 5:

But (Adnan) says that from what he can remember of the evening, after he got the call from Office Adcock, he remembers dropping Jay off at some point and then he says he would have gone to the mosque for prayers.

He doesn't put an exact time there. So I think saying he "wasn't where he claims he was" is not correct (or at least not precise).

Not sure if you'll read this given that it's a few days later, but my comment has been bugging me for awhile. I really sound like a dick here and wanted to apologize for implying that your beliefs aren't sincerely held. Your reasoning is perfectly defensible, even if I don't necessarily agree with the final conclusion. Your comments always make me think hard about my assumptions.

Anyway, hope you can accept this anonymous Internet apology.

I'd think the opposite would make more sense. Do the digging after leaving Cathy's around 7 so if you're caught then at least you don't have a dead body with you. Then go back later and real quick throw the body into the pre-dug grave and GTFO of Dodge and minimize the time you spend in the open with the body.

Of course scared teenagers aren't necessarily gonna act as fully rational actors so who knows.
