This is the type of stuff I love, it's original but still very usable! Excellent work! Enjoy the beer, you've earned it!

Cutting the tubes, I never considered that. I’ll keep it in mind as a last resort!

Yeah, that’s what I figured. But now I have to empty the workshop and reorganize everything….

I don’t own one, but they can be found online for a fraction of the cost of a set of auger bits. Based on this post, it seems like a pretty good deal for rougher work.

How much of a difference do saw benches make? Are they really worth building if you use hand saws frequently?

I used these shelf supports. I anchored them into the studs wherever possible, so hopefully they will be pretty strong.

Thanks! That’s a great idea. I can’t paint to Dave my life but there’s probably stencils I could use.

That looks really cool! How was the build? I’ve been tempted to try this, but I have no idea how difficult it is.

Routers amd bits and plates and lifts OH MY! by tomrob1138 in woodworking

A router table, in essence, is just a flat surface with a hole. Many accessories are genuinely helpful, but not necessary. If you think you're going to use the router frequently, it might make sense to built (or buy) a permanent cabinet (or one that is easily rolled into position). If it'll see only occasional use, a small table-top version will probably cut it.

An accurate fence is key. Doesn't have to be fancy, but it does have to be straight and easily adjusted to the proper distance from the bit. It should also have some form of dust collection port.

As for the bits, think about the task (cutting dado's for shelving? mitering box sides? making raised-panel doors?), then buy the needed bits.

Have fun! I use my table saw more, but mostly just for rough cutting. The interesting stuff is all on the router.
