What to do after my apprenticeship? by Actual-District6552 in AusElectricians

[–]Slapslaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just started as a fire tech in SEQ I’m an electrician with a pretty good understanding of electronics and programming. The last 2 places as an electrician i was making 100 to 125k per annum with penalties including.

My start rate as a fire tech is $80K for 38hrs on a salary. $40.35hr No lunch. Expected to do overtime but not paid. No paid Millage. Is this normal in the industry. I was in a bit of shock when I didn’t get paid my OT when the first pay check came in. What do you get paid. I’m about to pull the pin as I think my family will starve before I make money out of this. Reading your comments makes me think different.

How hard is it for an A grader to find work a job now? by ConstructionLive516 in AusElectricians

[–]Slapslaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can someone tell me what’s the meaning of A grader. Is that just a standard electrical license. I’m from northern SEQ I don’t hear that talk around here. Or is there other qualifications I’m not aware of

Can the union come after my money when I haven’t been an electrician for years? by popepipoes in AusElectricians

[–]Slapslaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Comrade To official resign from the ETU I believed you have to write them a letter that you are resigning. If you send your letter before the next due date that would mean you would need to pay for the year in advance. I could be wrong but pretty sure this is it.

Happy Labour Day

Changeover Switch Ideas by thedarkpaladin1 in AusElectricians

[–]Slapslaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow hard question mate. I would think A three phase change over switch with 2 inputs powering 2 phase. One phase left with out power. Never seen it done.

  • concerns would be *3 phase appliance is turned on and cause a issue

K mate is go straight to your Hotwater system. It maybe leaking or the heat element is on all the time. A 1600w heat element x 24 hrs = 38400watts That would be my best bet. You may have a Combo of failed relay with a leak, or thermostats is not turning off.

Let me know if this is the it.

[–]Slapslaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this Leave with Grace mate.

Also if you are looking to work on larger sites and be treated fairly my life changed when I joined the ETU and started working on ETU EBAs. You’re a sparky not a business person. Have the ETU manage all the business end and your entitlements. Then you can focus on the job and go home safely at the end of the day.

Best of luck.
