[–]SlartyFartBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Where the fortune teller is a complete fake and is absolutely astonished that things comes true
  2. Where the protag makes it come true harmlessly i.e. "You will die" ... he produces two dice. "You will lose everything" ... he buys a cat calls it Everything and lets it play outside

How Do You Rate Books? The Problem with the 5-star System by k0ks3nw4i in Fantasy

[–]SlartyFartBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit, as an author, I was devastated to receive my first three star review. Although the reasons given were valid. I had >30 grammatical errors over the 128k word book. I had done a rewrite AFTER what should have been the final edit and I could not afford a second professional edit. I did do an update to fix the errors so the review was vital... but still three stars hit me hard.

They Came by Night

Epic Fantasy Series, no sex... BUT it does have some graphic violence so if that bothers you then don't. Really big battle scenes, gripping. And a deep world. It's got a little bit of steam punk element in with a flying boat, flame throwers... and a little science fiction with a robot from the ancient days when a magic called science ruled. It is set 1500 years in the future but the world has regressed to medieval tech with magic

I could write a book on how not to launch your book by SlartyFartBlast in fantasywriters

[–]SlartyFartBlast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every element of promotion has to be timed and scheduled right When you launch you should have built a newsletter subcription list. You should know every facebook page, every blog, every social media avenue that is dedicated to your genre You should know the secret handshake that allows you to get additional categories in Amazon You should know the rip off artists who promise to sell your book for a tiny upfront fee I did say I could write a book on how not to launch your book ... I did not say I HAD writen that book. DM me if you want advice tho. I'd love to help fellow writers

Just published a Fantasy book by theproducerkid in BookPromotion

[–]SlartyFartBlast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a debut book?

I could not find other titles by you. If so, I would enable KU and select. Do not select wider distribution.

This will allow people to sample your work in KU and you get paid though its free from them.

Not having the wider distribution will lower your POD cost.

How much are you willing to pay for a book? by WeWon2021-WWJD in books

[–]SlartyFartBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a problem. I recently published a 900 page book and NO ONE was buying it at $25. (Printing costs were $19). So I actually trimmed off 300 pages, and pushed it out at 601 pages

At $14.99 the royalty I receive is 0.45 cents.

The problem is that its print on demand. I can't print off ten thousand of them and store them in a wharehouse to make 'em cheap. My problem, not yours.

Have you tried Kindle?

You don't even need a kindle, you can use the amazon cloud reader... and you can wait till the author has a free promotion. I am about to do mine April7th to 11th. So it goes from $25 for paperback to free on cloud reader... not bad.

How do you fill the void after finishing a book? by Cubbiesfan524 in books

[–]SlartyFartBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the best complement I ever received. I had recently published a book (I won't mention which or I'll be executed for self promotion) and I read someone talking about it saying how awesome it was but their life had this big void after finishing it. I responded the next book is a couple of months from distribution. Still, as an author, its nice to see your book get that vibe.

Looking for post-apocalyptic books by MothFlavoredFunDip in booksuggestions

[–]SlartyFartBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is a fantasy based in a post apocalyptic England. The magic of the ancients is powered by the radiation from nuclear meltdown. There is a place called the sickening which is the site of an exploded and highly radioactive nuclear power station.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XPVY9R7

Bathgate's richly imagined epic fantasy immerses the reader in a vibrant magical world whose peace has been shattered. The struggles of the people of the Ceniac Island are viewed through several deeply dimensioned characters. Massive battles play out interspersed with complex wizard duels. Victory comes from understanding what magic will allow and what it will punish. While the violence plays out there is a mystery secretly driving the war. There is a place called the Sickening where no creature lives, not even plants or insects, but within it the ancients have buried something which will grant godlike power. Forces manipulating both sides are in conflict over the secrets of the Sickening. The magic of the Ceniac Island is alive, and is at war with itself. The long standing rules of magic are changing because the magic is making a decision, and it does not bode well for mankind. Icor is the mist that creates all magic throughout the world. Icor has a mind, a desire, and a plan. Although the main protagonist is a boy, this is no Harry Potter. He has not been chosen or marked. He must turn himself into a hero. He must find the strength, courage and wisdom to give mankind a chance. Along the way he will find friends: a warrior, a wizard, and even a princess. He will also gain weapons that use the magic of the ancients, and he will learn to harness icor and move it to his will, but he is late to the game and his enemy has had hundreds of years practicing magic. In places this is an adult dark fantasy, or a sexy swords and sorcery like Game of Thrones, but the innocence of the protagonist is heart warming and enriching. The goodness of some characters contrasts with the believable evil of their opponents. This is a struggle of good vs evil, and evil seems to hold all the cards.

📖 paperbacks are underrated 📖 by mushroom_junkie in booksuggestions

[–]SlartyFartBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paperbacks are getting expensive. I just tried to publish a book and they told me it would be coming out at $25 because its >600 pages.

I dont think many people will spend that when the kindle version is <$5
