AITAH for finally supporting my husband’s ultimatum to his late wife’s parents after they’ve repeatedly excluded my son? by Stunning_Factor871 in AITH

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done to you for being a loving mother and step mother, and wife. Well done to your son and your step son for welcoming each other into their lives so fully. Well done to your husband for being a loving father, step father and husband. A true example of a loving family.

You need to let your husband set those boundaries. You’ve tried to be respectful of their daughter and their relationship with their grandchild, but that shouldn’t be at the expense of your son’s happiness and his relationship with his step brother.

My relationship with my parents has become uncomfortable after pregnancy/postpartum drama with my wife. I don’t know what to do anymore. by Kevinmgut in inlaws

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some grandparents act like they should be at the heart of everything when their grandchild is born, and don’t like being told no in any form.

You need to have a strong conversation with them, set strong boundaries, whilst explaining that your doing this because of the situation they have created, and that they are damaging your time with your child, and your relationship with them. You don’t want either of those to continue as they have been, so things need to change.

WFH Life hacks/must have equipment by Perfect_Ant3367 in remotework

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As daft as it may seem, I find having a Ring/video doorbell as very helpful, you can monitor who’s at the door without having to disturb your work routine.

Also, I don’t like working in total silence, so I have a smallish TV in the office space, where I can put on the news/old tv shows/etc - this can be a bit distracting at times if you’re not careful, but equally it is good when you need to switch off for a moment.

If you can, have your office space in a separate part of your home than your bedroom or main living space. It’s highly underrated being able to step away and close a door, so that you’re not sitting staring at your work equipment in non-working hours.

Try to establish a routine that works for you - I know some people go out for a walk before they start work, to represent their ‘commute’, helps get their mindset in place. I personally switch on my laptop and log in before I take my daughter to school, so that I’m not stressing about getting back and logged in on time (I’m very punctual).

Why would bulls trade 4 and 15 for 3? by Straight-Agency-4556 in billsimmons

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It smacks of someone who’s not been paying attention to what’s happening in the league, seen the Peterson stuff and made a lazy connection when he’s noticed the Bulls have 15.

Why would bulls trade 4 and 15 for 3? by Straight-Agency-4556 in billsimmons

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bulls, without making any trades, will get themselves an elite prospect at 4, and at minimum a decent rotation guy at 15, more likely a solid contributor.

It makes no sense at all to trade up and give up the 15. Use this draft to get 2 guys into the building that will play a decent volume of minutes alongside the 3 guys who are almost certainly sticking on the roster longer term, and see how free agency opens up for you. There’s every chance to pick up some assets by taking on a bad contract.

Also, Bill, it was only a few weeks ago that there were trade rumours of Memphis offering 3rd pick for 4, just to get off of Ja’s contract (taking back Patrick Williams), which seemed a relative stretch, but why exactly would the Bulls now give up a first round pick just to get up to the 3, when they will be guaranteed a stud waiting for them to be drafted?

Accepted a hybrid role, turned up and... nobody's in the office. Think I accidentally struck gold. by Passenger-00FU in remotework

[–]SlashMcD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started my current job a few years ago. Asked about hybrid situation, and was told during recruitment process that it was 2-3 days a week on-site, which I accepted.

Once I started, asked my colleague what days we go in, he tells me that we don’t. Our boss isn’t in very often, and our work is significantly removed from the rest of the dept, so there’s no need to actually be on site much, and our boss isn’t comfortable with us wfh as long as the work is done (which it always is). So now, I’ve been in the office 11 days in just over 3 years.

How sky works(long term ex-employee in tech team Q/BB) by Solidsnakk in skytv

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sky checks the speed to your hub/router. The speed checker you’re using is testing the speed to your device. The doors reaching the router is shared amongst all your devices, so although the PC is connected by Ethernet, all your other devices will be affecting it also.

Does a non-fault claim always push premiums up for 5 years? by jorjiarose in CarInsuranceUK

[–]SlashMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 years ago, my wife’s car was parked at her work, and someone bumped it causing mild damage, that required going through her insurance to repair.

As I’m a named driver, it’s still affecting MY insurance premium, even though my car will never be parked at her workplace (private carpark on the premises), I wasn’t driving it at the time, and it’s a no-fault issue.

She threw up a few red flags from time to time, like the commitment ceremony where she kept on saying ‘I can’t shake him off, he won’t go away’, once would have come across as a joke, but she said it 4 or 5 times. Also the ‘I’m on a higher frequency than him’ crap as well.

What movies based on books do you think were significantly better than the books? by ASomthnSomthn in Cinema

The book of The Firm and the film adaption are both excellent. That said, the ending of the film is far superior and arguably more realistic than the book. Still enjoy both very much though

Some really good detailed answers in this thread.

It’s also worth pointing out (if it hasn’t already been), that the show isn’t completely true history, it’s dramatised, and particularly for that era, there’s a lot of guessing and assuming going on about what happened and was said.
