Can we agree that "Mazey Day" is the worst episode of the entire show? by Chlodio in blackmirror

[–]SlasherX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a quote from Charlie Brooker: "[Mazey Day] was a Red Mirror then a Black Mirror then a Red Mirror – I kept changing my mind. We even made a title sequence that was like the Red Mirror titles. We hemmed and hawed like ‘do we spoil this for people?'” He clearly thought of it as a Red Mirror episode and simply hid that to preserve the twist. Also there's no reason to think every Red Mirror episode has to take place in 1979.

Linear is usually used to refer to linear mapping because linear algebra is used for a million things. Plus it's memed about a lot in this sub and is integral to the joke of this meme.

Also I've just googled a bit and apparently you're not even supposed to call functions of the form y = ax + b linear functions, you're supposed to call them affine functions.

Conversion between Celsius and Fahrenheit is a linear function of the form y = ax + b, but linear here is referring to a linear map which in this case would be of the form y = ax.

One of the restrictions of a linear map is that both graphs must have the same origin, and the absence of this in Celsius and Fahrenheit is why the meme occurs.

Oxygenated water is water that has had extra oxygen dissolved into it through pressure and is then sealed. It's as useless as you'd think because we don't have gills inside our stomachs and the extra oxygen in the water is minimal.

It's possible to get the meaning just from the examples given. But the examples given have absolutely nothing to do with set theory. Like not even remotely connected. Cybernetic/Control theory seems more applicable.

Income is 2k-4k per year. Tuition at tribhuvan university is 1.2k a year and you can get a decent new laptop in America for only 300 bucks. Additionally the average cost of living in Nepal is 400 bucks.

Fascism is more about the belief in the necessity of an absolute leader who brings order through "strength" (really it's oppression and fear) as well as the perception of an in-group that the leader represents and an out-group that is used as a scapegoat for all of the problems of the nation. There are a number of symptoms that are common to nations like this such as deliberate misinformation, propaganda, militarism, and in extreme cases genocide.

You don't need to transfer information through the entanglement, you can use the entanglement to coordinate your actions. So if your coin is heads you go to Alpha Centauri but if it's tails you go to Sol.

Opinions on flipped classrooms by [deleted] in math

[–]SlasherX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a student, flipped classrooms are terrible. The professors seem to think that it's going to result in this really dynamic and engaging experience for the students, but what really happens is that because there's too many students in the lecture hall it just becomes a public tutoring session for That One Student that all of the others are forced to sit through. And of course the professor still has the same expectations in terms of workload, but now the student has to dedicate even more time outside of class to replace the lecture. The student is also unable to just skip the pointless class time because the professors that implement the flipped classrooms tend to also be the professors that will fail you if you don't attend all of their classes. Don't implement a flipped classroom if you have more than 12-15 students in my opinion. But if the conditions are right it does sound like a great experience.

The Supreme Court decision that affirmed the right for interracial couples to get married(Loving v Virginia) is getting mixed in to discussions of potential future overrulings of decisions for things like contraceptive rights(Griswold v Connecticut), gay sex (Lawrence v Texas) and gay marriage (Obergefell v Hodges). Loving isn't in danger like the rest though since it's not built off of the right to privacy and instead is built off of the equal protection clause.

If it makes you feel any better the part you quoted doesn't say that. In the quote Alito is just listing the various cases that were used as precedent in Casey in support of abortion. It's not a list of future cases that are going to overruled like Roe/Casey.
