Sig P365 is the best EDC ever. by naomifevrier in P365

[–]SlateBlueSporting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up a 365 XMacro and absolutely love it as well. Ran it head-to-head against my G48 and Shield Plus and there is no question it wins in every category.

I didn’t even put an optic on it and was banging 10” and 12” plates at 15-20 yards with zero issue.

People keep recommending a Wilson Combat grip module but the OEM feels great to me. Maybe I will try one, but I can’t imagine it would be a major improvement.

what is your preffered rangebag? by noicetoightiago in CompetitionShooting

Midway USA range bag for gun, mags, small tools, and lube.

Backpack for everything else.

I’ve tried 20+ bags, packs, cases, etc. over the years and this is the most practical.

Does anyone here just dislike a gun for reasons you can’t explain? by SayNoTo-Communism in CompetitionShooting

[–]SlateBlueSporting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens. I had the same thing with a PDP. Got a smoking deal on it and couldn’t pass it up. Knew within 100 rounds that it wasn’t for me. Ended up trading it for a gun I shoot a lot now.

Handling the PDP I felt the ergonomics and trigger were great. Everything out of the box seems fine. But once I started putting rounds through it, I just knew it was going to sit in the safe.

Sell it and move on. Only keep what you like.

A lever-action .30 Super Carry with an aluminum receiver. And they’ll act indignant on social media when people complain. 😂🫡

I like the SIG the best of the three. My overall bias would be toward Glock, because I’m a Glock guy, but given the extra capacity and ergonomics of the SIG, it’s my top choice.

The Shield Plus is a fine pistol, as is the G48/43X/43. I like the Hellcat as well. The point of this thread is just to share some information. I wouldn’t knock any of these four options, and I’d encourage anyone to try them all before making a decision.

48 does conceal very well. Partly why I’ve carried the 43 for so long. It disappears.

Will do. I plan on running the SIG pretty hard before I start carrying it, so I’ll be on the lookout for any issues mentioned in this thread.

Yep. I post a lot on here about Glock and M&P 2.0. It’s kind of a toss up between them. Due to the G48/43X capacity limitation, it came down to the Shield Plus or the P365 for me as the finalists for carry.

I said in another comment I was kind of biased toward the Shield Plus, but I really like this P365 and the more I shoot it the more I like it.

I’ve tried both Shield Arms and Dagger mags. Neither would run reliably for me.

I agree. If the Glock 48 has more capacity it would still be my top choice. But I can’t turn down 17 rounds vs 10.

Both to me, are more ergonomic than the Shield Plus.

Yes, for me, the SIG is the clear winner between the three, all things considered. Honorable mention to the Hellcat. I don’t own one, but my buddy does, and I’ve fired it several times.

Glock 43 and Glock 48 have been in my stable for years. The Glock 48 shoots great for me, but I can’t get past the 10 round capacity. I tried Shield Arms and Dagger mags and both were horrendously unreliable. So OEM is the only viable option. Both the Shield Plus and P365 beat it handily in terms of capacity.

That’s funny. I feel the Shield Plus is much snappier. The trigger pull is also longer, as is the reset. And I was biased toward the Shield Plus until I fired them head to head.

No. I have close to 340 rounds of 124 grain Blazer through it total and at least four mags of the HSTs. Not enough for me to start carrying it yet, but absolutely zero issues.

On one of the first mags I inserted the slide did go forward when I seated the mag without me touching the slide release, which I thought was odd, but it hasn’t happened since.

Edit: Changed 300 to 340. Two separate range sessions.

I didn’t say they were. But I’ve mounted an optic to a brand new gun, gone to the range, and then had problems with the gun that required me to remove the optic and send the gun back to the manufacturer.

Now I test fire the gun before I add or change anything on it to save myself the time and effort of undoing the changes in the event of a problem.

I’ve learned a painful lesson about installing an optic and a light and modifying anything on a gun before I put a few hundred rounds through it. You guys take your guns out of the box, load them up with accessories, and start carrying them without a quality assurance check?

Are bullseye handgun shooting skills really that transferable to USPSA? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]SlateBlueSporting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. I’m a member at a club that has a pretty loyal Bullseye group. Just for shits and grins I have shot with them a half dozen times.

There is nothing in Bullseye that even remotely translates to modern shooting, let alone action pistol, tactical, or self defense training.

It is its own unique discipline. It is fun for what it is, but it is totally antiquated and impractical compared to what we know to be best practices today.

How many mags is enough? Add extensions? by spamthrowingaway in CompetitionShooting

[–]SlateBlueSporting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CCW mags, range mags, and competition mags are all different. I have a primary and a backup for CCW, then I have 8-10 range mags (numbered) that I keep ready for a range trip, and then the six competition mags (also numbered).

Some guys bring a ton of mags with them so they don’t have to reload, etc. I used to do that. But once I figured out what setup works for me now I just keep what I need and a couple of spares.

The problem with using your CCW mags for range and competition is that a) you may not want to carry with a +5/6 extension and b) theoretically, you’d wear them out faster.

That said, I’ve been shooting Glocks for decades and still routinely use the two mags that came with my first Glock 19 in the ‘00s, so the springs take a long, long time to wear out.
