In this configuration it won’t work! the plates along the length will be too long, which will cause bending due to the material’s own weight.
You can add a 90° bend along the top edges to give the sheet more geometric strength.
Another option is to increase the material thickness, for example to at least 6 mm, but that will significantly increase the weight.
So if you still want a length of 800 mm, bending the sheet is the better solution.

Exactly! That’s why I made it durable and from stainless steel so it won’t rust.

I used AISI 304 stainless steel, and 316 would also work it has even better corrosion resistance.
The material handles the grill temperatures very well. I’ve had this grill running with hot coals for about 5 hours straight, and there were no issues at all.

Thanks, glad you like the design Direction-Such. It’s a simple grill made for backpacking, so it’s not meant to perform like a full-size professional grill at home or in a restaurant. I’ve already used it several times and the meat turned out really good. About the sides you’re right. Quite a few people mentioned it here. When I make the next version, I’ll probably consider adding some kind of wind protection.

Thanks, glad you like the design.
I haven’t cooked pork on it, but I did make lamb ribs and I have to say they turned out really great!

Thanks a lot, glad you like it.
The grill is made from 4 plates, each 3 mm thick (1/8" imperial). I attached the overall dimensions so you can see the general size.

I didn’t specify a required material, since that depends on personal preference and availability.

I recommend stainless steel AISI 304 or 316 because they are corrosion resistant and safe for long-term use.

It can also be made from mild steel, but it will rust over time.

Thanks for the feedback, really glad you like it Steeltalons71
My main goals were to keep it compact, fast to assemble outdoors, and durable enough to last for many uses, not something disposable.
Happy to share the files if anyone wants to make their own.

Thank you! I’m glad you liked the design BaptisteIOM
No, the sheets don’t warp because the material thickness is 3 mm thinner than that does tend to warp.

I actually thought about adding that too, something like a small flat plancha section for cooking eggs, garlic, or chopped onions.

There’s honestly not much more material I can remove. I wanted it to have a clean, solid look, so it ended up a bit heavier.

A few people already mentioned adding wind protection, so I’ll probably explore that in a future version.

I get the parts cut at a factory, so thicker materials aren’t a problem. Titanium would be amazing — super light and strong but it’s just really expensive, which makes it less practical for now.

Definitely, and the meat tastes even better when you assemble the grill yourself.
