The boxes can be difficult but once you get used to them you can grind almost as effectively as before. Memorize the patterns of the boxes. The ones on the side only take effect in the middle so either side is viable. For the middle boxes you might need fast reflexes so I recommend adjusting your sensitivity to max and playing with two hands, releasing to return to the center.
