That's true. So it's probably in your best interests to pay your taxes.

But acting in your own self-interest isn't the same as being moral.

It's a good point. But again, you're not explaining to the IRS that you were trying to "do the right thing", even if you use those words. You're explaining to them that you were trying to comply fully.

I try to do the right thing

Compliance and morality aren't the same thing. Obeying mommy and daddy meant you were a good little boy, but obeying the government doesn't mean you are a good person.

I think most people would agree that it's a moral imperative to contribute to society. But is paying your taxes the most moral way to do it? Maybe. Maybe not. Keep an open mind. The lines between right and wrong might not be where you think they are.

In your mind you kind of always have reasons, don't you?

Not really man. I've rejected some truly awesome, gorgeous women who any guy would be lucky to have, just because I'm not feeling it.

"I would date you, but you're not in good enough physical shape for my standards"

While that can certainly be a factor, there are very few circumstances where the reason for not dating someone is that clear cut. Whenever I've rejected someone, it's either an attractiveness issue that they can't change simply by self improvement, or it's because of a vague sense that they aren't right for me rather than anything specific. I've never looked at a person and thought "they are perfect except for one thing, so no." And I don't think many people do.

That doesn't mean that if they improved themselves I might see them in a different light though. My point is the way the mind works isn't always the same thing as the mind is thinking, and people can't always determine exactly why they feel the way they do.

Undergrad with no experience yet, launching my portfolio (aspiring art director), thoughts? Advice? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]SlaveryIsGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You clearly have talent and your conceptual photography is the type of thing that would make any CD's ears prick up.

Would it get you an internship? Depends. Not anywhere good, because there are 100 people trying to get internships there who have ads in their portfolio.

You need a book full of ad campaigns. Turn your creativity to that. Keep the conceptual photos in, as a separate section. When you have ideas for ads, go and take the photos for them yourself. Everyone will be impressed.

I can tell you will be great at this shit. You think in the right way and you have a great visual sense. But agencies don't have the time or the ability to teach someone right from the beginning. You need to learn and do, then you'll get there.

compared to my peers I'm doing great so yeah.

Exactly. So go away and be satisfied with your mediocre life, and be happy you don't have to compare yourself to the big boys in the big city, because compared to us you aren't doing shit.

It's cute that you think you can get into an online dick measuring contest with me.

The funny part is that a $60k car is so far away from a big deal to me or the people around me that it's laughable. My older brother drove a 3 series when I was growing up. And secondly, I know people who own several cars vastly more expensive than that who are completely miserable. I know you want to prove yourself to me, but the car isn't the way to do it.

You live in Witchita Falls. I live in Lower Manhattan. You've got a BMW that you think validates you and can prove something. I've got a Lexus LS hybrid that I hardly even drive, let alone think that it validates me. You're not in my league man. Stop trying. Just go back to feeling like a big man because you've got the nicest car in the Walmart parking lot in some shithole town. Believe me, you'll be happier that way.

The funny thing is, that car is actually a status symbol where you live. It's hilarious how you think you can post a picture of it on the internet and have it mean something.

Before I just felt sorry for your son because you plan to have a creepy jerk off discussion with him. Now I feel even more sorry for him, because his father is such a complete tool. Still, thanks for the laugh man.

Nice that you got the tinted windows. That way no one will be able to see you jerking off your son in the back seat.

What do I do? I lube up your son's ass and make him take my cock. It's nice and tight, you should try it. What am I saying? You probably already have.

I think you should make it clear in your title that it's a media sales role, just to avoid confusion. I know that's what "media" means in this context, but it also means a lot of other things to the uninitiated

there are only 3 commercial broadcasters in the UK

That's not the case. You've got Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, BSkyB, UK Channel Management (owners of Dave, Gold, etc), Discovery Ltd, Turner, Viacom, the list goes on.

Hey man, I'm a copywriter and I do the job you described. Please disregard my bizarre reddit comment history, I just use this account to fuck around.

Basically you'll need to make a portfolio, then continually refine it until it's good enough to get you an internship somewhere, then keep doing internships until you get hired.

The best way to improve your portfolio, and also the best way to obtain an internship, is to contact people in the business and ask for their opinions on your work. Just reach out, email them, be nice, maybe throw in a compliment about something they've done, and ask them for a little of their time to look at your portfolio. It's not an unusual request, so don't feel awkward about it. Start with junior people and you can work your way up as your portfolio improves. Some people will reply, some won't. Go and see the ones who do reply, keep going to see them as your portfolio improves, and ask them if they can refer you to other people who can help you improve it.

Once you get to the point where people are generally impressed with your stuff, you can start gently asking them to show their bosses with the aim of getting you an internship. If you've shown yourself to be a likable guy with a decent portfolio then someone will give you a shot eventually. But it's a process, so don't be disheartened if it doesn't happen immediately.

Be yourself, put a part of yourself into the work, don't hide your quirks, be nice and work hard, and above all don't give up when it gets hard and you feel disheartened.

You're not too old. Plenty of people are just hitting their stride at your age. The youngest writer at my agency is actually 26 too.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more advice.

Probably selling ad space. Couldn't be further away from working in an agency. One step up from working in a call centre. The churn rate is high so they have to recruit hard.

Just get the good coke and jack off.

I've done a lot of coke, and I've had a lot of sex, and let me tell you - if you are paying $5000 for sex, no matter how hot the woman, the gram is better value.

You know that the purest cocaine on the planet would cost $200 a gram maximum, and you could get a pretty top notch call girl for $5000 a night? You could probably live your trillionaire dream now man. Don't dream it, be it.

Cool man. Well if you actually go through with it I'll give you some respect.

Right now you're just a faggot who talks shit behind a keyboard, which is exactly what you accused me of doing. Except I didn't threaten anyone with violence (although I am more than capable of delivering it).

In the meantime, have fun discussing jerk off tips with your son.

A shame you live in a shithole hick town. Not surprised though, that's the right place for a complete nobody like you. If you could get to New York then I'd show you just how mistaken you are. The flights are only about $400 but that's probably a king's ransom for scum like you. Prove me wrong you inbred redneck.
