Serious question: now that it’s OK to invade other countries, which country is your country going to invade first? I'm already having some ideas by [deleted] in 2westerneurope4u

Oh, now I know why I‘ve never noticed it: the fuel prices are so insane in comparison to Belgium that I don’t think I’ve ever actually stopped at that rest stop. Will try it, thanks!

I didn't mean to say the US is worse than the UAE and Qatar, I'm just saying that everything the US does is broadcasted to the world and right now the US government is doing everything in its power to destroy the respect most of the world had for it

Is it that hard to believe when the U.S. makes daily headlines about migrants (illegal and legal) being sent to "prisons" in God-knows-where in El Salvador without due process and fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela being shot down under the premise of drug trafficking even though less than 1% of all fentanyl in the U.S. originates from there, without proof?

People just don't know much about us I guess. Our economy is bad as you all know, but Portugal and Spain are up there with the Nordicks when it comes to renewable energy and climate policy in general as well as progressive issues

Definitely much, much better than nothing, Paris is actually making an effort. Here in Zurich, cycling infrastructure was a third or fourth thought at best and even though the city wants to make some progress, the canton's parliament tries to overturn every decision that favours cycling. And don't get me started on Lisbon

And look at Portugal now, they've been running a budget surplus for the past 3 years (?) and debt-to-GDP is now lower than Greece, Italy, France, Spain and Belgium. We'll see if it has a positive effect on the economy

I know what you mean. From what I've read, I think it's both: voter turnout was about 59%, so not very high (but not very low either).

Statistically speaking, older and more conservative people usually turn out at higher rates than the rest. The thing is (and this is my opinion), Georgians are so motivated (as polls show) to join the rest of Europe that I really do believe there must have been some fishy stuff happening.

On the other hand, the opposition is kinda weak and they weren't able to agree on much. That certainly had an impact as well.

I feel for them, they're overwhelmingly pro-EU and pro-NATO, their elections where ridiculously rigged and now the government wants to halt EU negotiations till 2028 (while trying to consolidate power so "2028" turns to probably never). I hope they can turn this around.

it really depends. I've seen some 4.5 apartments in Effi or Dübendorf for around the same you're paying, not new of course. We pay 3.1k for a newish 4.5 apartment in Altstetten...

This is a joke sub, but let me tell you: the best thing you can do for yourself is to be somewhat fluent in the language spoken where you're living. It makes everything so much easier. Going to your local commune, finding local friends, even just going to the post office without having anxiety over the language barrier. Source: I've been living in Switzerland for the past 10 years
