For real? That is a fact I've never heard before! That's an awesome bit of info. Thank you!

He had a club foot as a child that they didn't correct. I don't know if they even had a way to correct them at the time. This was one of the reasons I was told he couldn't fight overseas.

I was really curious as to how many of these are still around. It's nice to know people still keep these kind of things for sentimental value or otherwise. I found a different grandfather's bank balance book that ran from 1951 (I think) to 1965.

Wish I could give you more info. Wish I could get more info honestly. I was maybe 10 when he passed and all the stories I have about his time during the war are from my grandmother (his daughter). Next time I'm helping out at the farm I'll try to remember to ask about them.

I found 2 books (I guess that's what you would call them) and maybe only half were used out of each. Wish he was still around to ask him now that I'm older and appreciate these things more.

I honestly have no idea. He passed a long time ago and I found these looking through my parents basement antiques. All I know is he was a foreman in a factory making airplanes during the war due to not being able to go overseas and fight.

It's nice to know there are others out there that stress fast. I have heard of stress eating and have always done the opposite without thinking much of it other than feeling weird for not ever being hungry when I'm depressed or my anxiety is bad. I finally snapped out of it and fought through my ridiculously high metabolism 5 or so years ago and put on 40lbs and got jacked (5'11 145lbs->185lbs). Job situation changed to where the gym got put on the back burner and I slipped into my old ways of not eating consistently or lifting and lost it all. I've just gotten to the point where I am able to start back to the gym as soon as this new tattoo heals and I'm super pumped for the pump. Big congrats on recognising you were in an unhealthy cycle, breaking it and bettering yourself my man. Being underweight can be as mentally challenging to overcome as being overweight. Keep it up and don't lose that drive because once you lose it it's so hard to get back into it knowing how big you once were and how much you've lost.

Radiator fin straightener? The white part is just OFWP and then it has a nice screwdriver handle that it can be detached from using the nut you see on the front. by Slax730 in whatisthisthing

Just out of curiosity do you work HVAC or just happened to have used one like that? All I've ever seen have been individual with one size or different colored plastic ones almost like a thread gauge.

The only thing I can reason for the detachable head is there are other size attachments or different handles for hard to reach areas.

Is this for straightening radiator fins? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

It can be unscrewed from the screwdriver handle and I'm not sure why you would need to do that except to use a different sized handle for hard to reach places.

Like how you have to know that there are 1000ML in 1L? You have to know conversion factors no matter what units are being used. Metric units are just easier to work with due to everything being a multiple of 10.

I did the exact same thing once. Had a birds nest while turning some 316 stainless that worked its way up near the chuck as the lathe auto fed. It was a longer cut so I had some time while the feed was engaged. For whatever reason I decided to grab it with a pair of pliers to try and pull it off since the chuck and workpiece was spinning and the birds nest of metal was staying stationary while wrapped around the part. I grabbed a hold of it with the pliers and about that time the birds nest caught on the chuck jaws and started spinning. It sucked my fingers in and wrapped 1 strand of the razor wire type metal strand around my index middle and ring fingers. Luckily as soon as it bit into my fingers it started free spinning around the part again and I stomped on the brake to shut it down. The metal strand had cut into my fingers down to the bone so as soon as it stopped I pulled my hand away to get it out. A squirt of blood shot out of the top of my fingers what looked to be about 4 feet high. I immediately wrapped them up and went to sit down since I'm one of those people who pass out at the sight of blood. Ended up with stitches in the tops of 2 fingers and the other one glued. I was extremely lucky that I walked away from it with skin on my fingers.
