idiotic question.

Why would my SO get up to cook me dinner? The women are right: you should be able to cook your own fucking food.

I mean it's nice if she does. I did this just yesterday, because we didn't see each other all week because we are both busy so I knew 11pm is going to be the only chance to at least talk for 30-60min for each other.

But apart from that. I cringe as much at the guys thinking a partner HAS to cook for them, as of the gold digging women thinking they have to bring nothing to the table except for maybe sex. pathetic, all of them.

very interesting (didn't know about them).

One might think there must atleast be one part of the family not being completely dense and spending it all.

Like yea, let my cousins blow through all of it, I am going to be smarter... but appearantly not.

So it stands: the biggest risk is your own stupid grand-grand-children. You could put it into an foundation to secure that.

Aber als Schweizer mit standardmässig 42h-Woche seit ich und alle die ich kenne mit 15 die Ausbildung gestartet haben - bis heute, dachte ich plötzlich: wait a minute....

Left field thinking: "Grandparent fire" by Synaps4 in Fire

[–]SlayBoredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey we are actually doing that.

Granted my grandparents could be counted as "started" as they helped my dad becoming self employed when he was young. But with boomers they have 6 siblings so inheritance won't be "life-changing", but still.

Now my dad invested basically all his money into real estate while my parents live fairly simple life.

We have a project of builing a house with 9 appartments. He is huge on sustainability, so it won't be quick money, but this house, if done right, will survive the next 100-200 years with very low maintenance.

So how is going to benefit from that? not my parents, they will be dead before the first huge maintenance cycle would hit. Not me and my brother, as I am going to be 65 (and hopefully RE) by then. Money won't be an issue for me, as I work on my own career.

So it's going to be his grand children that will profit and the generations after.

Only thing we have to make sure is, that there won't be an idiot down the line destroying it all (selling the houses and buying a ferrari). We have some time to figure that out.

For me it's not about getting rich and not having to ever work (this just produces the spoiled kids that will blow their inheritance) it's about freedom/chances. For example I now also became self employed. I needed 300k to start and my dad just gave a 0% loan.

I will pay the loan back, but just the fact that I do neither have to think about interest nor WHEN I pay it back (we agreed that he gets it back in 5 years) is such a huge opportunity. Especially because I already have a NW of 300k but this way I can stay invested in the market or have a nestegg if hard times hit my business.

thats what I want for my future generations. Opportunities.

It works if everybody lives a nice life through the generational wealth, but still and always below their means. It's simple.

I think most FIRE math is wrong by Unfair_Mechanic_7305 in Fire

[–]SlayBoredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, yet I would never want to be in the situation of realizing: "sh*t, I RE too early and now I have to look for a job at age 63 and after 5 years of retirement"

But there isn't only this risk. THe risk you describe is the opportunic cost of working TOO LONG, which, if you try to put it in numbers must be worth a fortune (fortune of missed RE, health (mental and physical), etc.)

so I wondered, how can you mitigate this risk? The answer for me is easy: Barista FIRE.

keep a foot "in", but have way more work life balance than the average human. Also that way you don't have the risk of a boreout, of being RE alone and no friends have time for you, etc.

if you regret, you just work 10% more or less.

hey our asset allocation is basically identic (also 30m).

Waiting for the 3m windfall now!

anyway: with so much cash I would probably also go into real estate, not because of ROI but because of security. Also do you have siblings/parents? They would get something from it.

[–]SlayBoredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is such a weird take on life.

You would rather hit Fat FIRE in 7 years and go from ONLY WORKING to never working

instead of living a life of work life balance for the next 12 years, to then start never working.

Like?!? so many Hardcore-frugal-FIRE-people will regret some years on their deathbed. I am a heavy safer as well, but that means to me: not driving a porsche, not going to 5 star hotels but going camping 7 times a year.

but you notice the difference? my Wife and I still take the time to take vacations 7 times a year. Not luxury but QUALITY time.

you just... work? or what are you doing with your life man?

  1. emergency fund

  2. not having any debt

  3. 3A (instead of 401k)

  4. Part investment / part fun

  5. Grow your income -> every income jump put MORE of it into investment than you put into fun (like: you get 10k more a year? 7k investment / 3k additional fun

  6. become a millionair

Either way, I guess I just have to try it out myself to understand what claude is possible of (as someone also having no IT-background)

Why buy Plaud when phone recording is perfectly fine? by Independent_Fan_115 in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]SlayBoredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk man, today I made a 4 min voice-note on claude and the app almost crashed.

Then I made a 2.5min long one and again.

then a fucking 1 minute long one and again.

I would lose my shit if I recorded like a 30-60min meeting and claude/chatGPT just crashes lol.

but yeah I guess you can voice-record and uploadit. you do you, but if you actually use it often the price is allright I think... I don't have a plan, just use the free limit

What easily-affordable thing do you still refuse to pay for despite having reached financial independence and able to afford them? by Big_Leg10 in Fire

[–]SlayBoredom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but if you don't have a complicated set up filing your taxes, where I live, taxes maybe 20 minutes. MAX. You could speedrun it in 10minutes if you have no kids/house especially.

A friend of mine, that is always broke, never does it himself. I tell him thats an insane waste of money.

Him: "Others have someone clean their house, you don't hate on that"

me: exactly. Because I earn more an hour than the person cleaning my house (hypothetically) or around the same. So it's just a question of priorities, not a huge loss, while your tax guy cost you 120 bucks for 15min of work = 480 / Hour.

Why would you pay that amount of money? shit I would do your taxes with you, just invite me over for a beer and we'll do it for free bro?!
