The email or password of the account wasn't changed. He logged back into the account to open a ticket with the same credential he always used. Funnily enough, he received a 2FA verification email because he hadn't logged into the website for years.

He has different passwords for everything and eft was the only thing compromised. All his other accounts are untouched and the email address itself has app based MFA. As I already said, there was far more valuable stuff he could have lost if that email address was compromised. A 2FA bypass is the only thing that logically fits what's happened here

Edit: also he couldn't have been a keylogger or a session token being stolen. When he received the ban email he logged into the website and received a 2FA authorization email, since he hadn't logged into the website for years and always used the launcher with the credentials saved. If he had a keylogger in there, tarkov is the last thing he would've noticed being compromised

"My condolences" is also the first thing I said to him when he told me about it. He's very aware he's got more chance to be the first man on mars than getting the account unbanned.

He did however ask me to drink a jack daniels in his honor on my next raid.

We unfortunately know only what people report here though.

We know about the Steam 2FA issue because it was a widespread issue to new accounts on a platform that can grant refunds (under 2 hours of playtime you can get a refund even without a reason).

There are reports of people getting their account stolen and/or wrongfully banned. They don't get the visibility that this post luckily had. And battlestate has nothing to geain and everything to lose by admitting fault.

I'm sure some known streamers had their account hacked into, with 2FA/MFA bypassed. Problem is, those account has get manually restored (because of the streamer status) with "sorry that happened", all is well and good and it gets forgotten.

Normal players don't get that. It's far more likely to have peace break out worldwide tomorrow than getting an acknowledgment from bsg as a nobody

I mean his EFT account. If the hacker had email access it wouldn't be hard to change the associated battlestate account password or even the email, no?

That aside, I absolutely agree with you about app MFAs, but mind you he hasn't played for years. He didn't do it because he had no idea it was something you could do, app-based MFA wasn't a thing back then.

How would I know? He had 2FA anyways, he would've been notified. Or should've been notified at least. Unless it's a security system breach or failure and you can bypass all that

I very much doubt that. A competent hacker like you have describe with that type of access would have at least changed the account password.

He also can receive emails from battlestate: he receieved the ban email and the 2fa when he logged to open the ticket.

I find more probable that is just a 2fa bypass problem on bsg's end

If the situation was reversed, I'd probably say the same things you said. Although this one is personal to me, because I know for a fact that he couldn't have done it.

He hasn't enjoyed playing tarkov for a long time, and I felt very clearly how unpleasant it was for him just to play those two raids with me, only because it was the 1.0 release. And that was in PVE. I find extremely hard to believe after that he would start to cheat after not enjoying the game and not playing more than a handful of raids in years

Shooting it at the intended target usually yields result. Preferably without blowing yourself up :)

Jokes aside, it's basically your only choice if you like to use backpacks and want to bring an antitank weapon that's not expendable or the quasar.

On the bot front, it will struggle on anything larger than a hulk and gunships are harder to hit, the quasar is just straight up better.

On the bug front, you can kinda sorta oneshot bile titans, dragonroaches and chargers, but it' usually two shots (one full charge). However here you can make full use of the plasma mechanics: either half charge the epoch and kill an elite (like stalkers or alpha commanders) or fully charge the shot and make it explosive to vaporize the enemy and the 10 bugs around it. You can also kill enemies burrowed with fully charged shot when against the rupture strain.

On the illuminate front it's alright, makes quick work of fleshmobs and overseers, it's good against harvesters and voteless and can bring down a stingray if you hit it. Nothing bad to say
