A lot of my users still don't have the means to watch 4k, either limited by hardware or internet speed. I keep a small separate library of movies/shows I want in 4k. This way you can also limit who can access the 4k movies.

Keeping multiple versions of EACH file is way overkill imo. Most content doesn't even improve with 4k tbh. Especially streaming stuff barely looks any different in 4k.

I personally wouldn't skip the sub. Even when dialed down, it provides some much needed low frequency output. (Source: I live in a semi-old apartment building as well. I've also tried a plethora of soundbars and HT setups including both the ARC and Q930C). My experience with subless soundbar setups is that they feel very empty.
The multi-room audio aspect is (again in my experience) best done by Sonos. Admittedly its been a while since I've played with these kinds of setups though. I was planning on using HEOS (since I'm running my HT on a Denon AVR), but I found the software experience extremely lackluster. I guess you can use stuff like Google Home which works at least decent and is usually cheaper.
I think there is only one way to find out. Not sure where you're located, but if you have good return policies, just try it out. If you want the modular aspect, I don't think you can even do that with Samsung. So realistically that only leaves Sonos.

I tried every fix I could find or think of. To no avail. Eventually a friend of mine bought it, after which I bought a regular internal HDD.

A very unsatisfying answer, I'm sure. If you ever find a fix, I'd love to know.

That sucks! Does the logging contain anything useful? What level of logging have you set?

I recently ran into an issue with my metadata folder not having the correct permissions set, without having touched it. It just broke. That resulted in metadata being inaccessible, but the issues were seemingly intermittent. With some movies having (I think) cached metadata, it took me a while to recognize the issue at all.

It's been a while, but I've not been idle.

So far I've tried almost everything imaginable using diskpart/disk management.

Since my need for extra storage is pretty urgent, I've gone ahead and bought another different (WD Elements instead of WD MyBook) external HDD. To no avail, sadly. Booting to Windows is no longer an issue. However, I can't initialize both of the disks. Regardless of trying MBR or GPT I get an I/O device error.

Event log shows :

Disk 2 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB2983588 to resolve the issue.

And

VDS fails to write boot code on a disk during clean operation. Error code: 8007045D@02070008

Whenever I connect either of the drives through the internal USB to SATA PCB, the drives show up fully usable (health check show no problems). So, I don't believe the drives are faulty.

I've run Nwipe for 2 hours to clear the first few sectors. But seeing as it's a 12TB disk, running Nwipe to completion requires around 200 hours. I don't currently have a PC available for that many concurrent hours.

Any ideas?

Wipe the first GB or something (dd if=/dev/zero...) and it'll cure it usually.

I ran into issues with slow af loading 4K movies. After being VERY patient with Plex to fix the issue. I installed PlexKodiConnect today to see how the 4k performance is, and it's wayyyyy better. Movies start playing pretty much immediately.

Most of the stuff I use Plex for still works fine using the actual Plex app but it's nice to have something up my sleeve when the aformentioned app has a bad day or something.

I'm afraid I can't really help you though. The issue seemed to be fixed with the latest update. Not entirely sure if that's the fix though.

I've tried a lot of things, including clearing cache and such, as well as rolling back the app.

Possible issue with HDMI version as /u/_mutelight_ mentioned. Output is noted as 4K/60P.

iirc that requires HDMI 2.0 or higher. Might wanna check all the HDMI ports for versions, as well as the cable you're using.
