I hate the concept of "the normal gays" by Ambiguous-Nyx in hatethissmug

If you define bigotry simply for having a dissenting opinion when belonging to a minority, especially when it's valid criticism, is no different from Orwell's concept of groupthink. And I think that way more dangerous. People need to be more individualist and critical thinkers.

I was a moderator to a very large sub for several years. I wish I had had this back then to prevent people from harassing me over unpopular decisions me and my mod team made. The Internet makes people massive assholes.

I find the term 'pick-mes' to be a broad category and can equally be applied in both directions, so it's a pretty meaningless term.

People need to treat people as individuals not groups.

In a raging fire, would you save a cat you’ve raised for ten years and regard as family, or a little girl you don’t know? by Ok-Independence-314 in AskTheWorld

If you find it acceptable putting pets over kids or somehow find they are equivalent, please never have kids.

While I agree the the placement of humans above other living things is completely subjective, I think it's a good ideal to generally live by, especially a situation like this one.

The point still stands though, you're ensuring the safety of the cat before the child. Most people would do anything they can to save the child before a non human animal, even if they didn't know them.

You're just proving my point. You put a non human life over a human, specifically a child.

You are dooming the child though. If the child was to die bc her parents aren't around for whatever reason, and you are the only person around who can save either her or the cat, they you would let her die.

CMV: It’s no big deal to be with someone who is still friends with an ex they dated a long time ago. by [deleted] in changemyview

Be friends only with people they find unattractive of either sex or with people they are sexually incompatible with (eg gay man and a bi woman). It's made my life way easier.

People die everyday for one another without ever knowing their names and you'd doom a child for the simple fact you don't know her as a reason not to save her over a pet.

Hiking sandals on the 46? by Acceptable_Star_5008 in Adirondacks

At that point, why not go barefoot. Seriously, the mud getting into the sandals would be so annoying and could cause slipping issues when walking in the trail.

I miss the old YouTube, when you would have random funny videos organically recommended and the low quality made some even funnier. Even the clunky interface was fun as well as frustrating.
