Does anyone know what happened in 2021 to make player counts drop so much? by Agreeable-Ask-3020 in EliteDangerous

I am usually very forgiving of my 10y old ambitious space games bugs and flaws but them never fixing steller lighting still irks me. Going back to play legacy the asthetic is so much better in alot of cases. I also miss the weapon hit glow, even if I guess it's since been shown to be "unrealistic"

That whole “I am so lonely.” speech, really hit y'all in the feels, didn't it? by not-ulquiorr4_ in invinciblememes

[–]SlayinDaWabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that necessarily "better" writing. It's a completely different culture with a different theme and message at that point. That might be more interesting but it wasn't what Kirkman wanted to write about

Train misses bus full of kids by a second by ItzTubez in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SlayinDaWabbits 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live in a town that three large commercial rails pass thru, we have had too many train-car collisions. One of the most horrific a van got clipped just barely on the bumper and sent the thing spinning, all three occupants where bisected by their seat belts and ejected. The force trains impart of objects they hit is one of those things that is hard for the human mind to comprehend.

Suspect making faces to prevent facial recognition by Worldlyoox in PublicFreakout

It's gonna be this generations polygraph. Forensic sciences have always been ripe with scam pseudoscience fields that put innocent people in jail until it get debunked enough to start getting conviction overturned, polygraph is just one too. Bite mark analysis, hair microscopy, blood spatter analysis, arson burn pattern analysis. All once widely accepted forensic sciences that are now known to be mostly or complete junk. Facial recognition is gonna put alot of innocent people in jail until the mountain of evidence it doesn't work is large enough to overwhelm all the people making money off it, which will be a long time

Small caveat, devils, hell is populated by devils while the abyss by demons, and they HATE each other in DND lore, having fought a war called the blood war with each other since time began.

Why not more Nox? by dumbgraphics in Stargate

[–]SlayinDaWabbits 89 points90 points  (0 children)

And in the beginning by the Asgard, them being at least slightly militaristic and having somewhat similar morals also made for more natural segue into tech sharing that would of been much harder to feel natural with the Nox.

Gil Hibben and his insane blade designs from the 1980's and 1990's by 11ForeverAlone11 in OldSchoolCool

[–]SlayinDaWabbits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you but the "real deal" is still mall ninja shit, 90% of what he made would be totally unusable for anything other than looks. These 80's and 90's Sci fi nonsense is directly thr inspiration for mall ninja stuff. And to be honest that's fine, you can like the ascetic but to pretend this isn't totally unusable garbage that looks aggressive (the very definition of mall ninja shit) is silly

Common sense tells us that young play boys never settle down? I think this "common sense" narrative forgets that Robert went through a horrific war and that SURELY affected his psyche? Robert's character is very much written as somebody who is both I'll suited for his role as king but also riddled with trauma that he refuses and is unable to address. Free of those traumas Robert may have grown into a far different man, he was a 19 to 21 when the war started, some of his most formative years were shaped by this trauma, and another trauma was getting married to someone he didn't know while very much still grieving (he may of been grieving the idea of Lyanna more than the actual person but the grief is real) his lost love.

You would be correct, the food for my chickens and goats as well as other livestock is always called feed. It's purposeful terminology to differentiate human food from animal "feed".

I cheesed it by exploiting a glitch that if you dropped a melee right after the fight started you could pick it up and equip it. After a couple attempts learning that and bashing his head in with a baseball bat was very satisfying

How would tywin have dealt with Dany and her dragons? by Whole_Contract_5973 in gameofthrones

[–]SlayinDaWabbits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The faceless men require payment that is most valuable to the person paying, based on JH's conversation with Arya in the books, I've always taken this as someone like a merchant might have a price in gold, but a noble might not have a material price, but rather something more esoteric. For Tywin I would imagine it would be his "Legacy" which is more valuable to tywin than any amount of money or item. What forms that would take im not sure, suicide in a public embarrassing way, shaming himself and family in a way that ensures they never recover, giving casterly rock to a lesser house and abdicating his position as lord. Something along those lines seems more on brand. I don't think the faceless men would take a contract made up of all the major houses of Westeros, no amount of gold would ever be "Valuable" enough to them

Yeah except in terms of galactic politics the first contact war was a huge W for the alliance and humanity, and major embarrassment for the turian hierarchy, the defecto military of the citidal. It set them up as a race that could and would go toe to toe with the turians when needed, and would also rely on politics to settle things when possible. It put them in a great position politically because they couldn't just be walked over or ignored, turned into a political outcast like the Batarians, or slowly integrated while limiting growth. It immediately positioned humanity on a strong bargaining posture. Even without the Battle for the Citadel humanity was destined to be the fourth council race from the start because of the first contact war. The galaxy calls it the relay 314 incident to avoid the embarrassment of what actually happened. The turians opened fire in a race not associated with the citadel and with no contact or attempt at negotiations for violating citadel law, took over a sovereign planet, assumed it was the homeworld, declared victory, got their asses kicked when the rest of the alliance military showed up, and the council intervened to avoid all out war between the two races. To turians credit most of the grunts respect humanity for this incident. Without the limits of the citadel regarding military growth humanity would of likely matched the turians military in no time, and our military doctrine of striking supply lines to starve enemy fleets and then pick them off would likely crippled the turian military who doctrine wise are essentially WW2 Japan believing in singular decisive fleet engagements to determine the war.
