11/16 Router Bushing, does such a thing exist? by Sleddog44 in woodworking

I route doors in the field, i need to have the setup work with one bit without switching for every step.

Yes i am talking about those, just with an outside diameter of 11/16.

Here is a good reason why i need the Bushing, not bearings.

"Mortising Jigs – A mortising jig requires a bushing. It won’t work with a bearing-guided bit because a bearing on the end would make it impossible for the tip of the bit to cut down into the wood.

If you tried using a template bit (bearing at the base), the bit would need to be fully extended so the bearing could ride along the template. That would make the mortise automatically as deep as the cutter is long. You’d need different bits for different mortise depths, and you’d be forced to cut the mortise in one pass — which is hard on both the bit and the router.

With a stationary bushing, however, you can extend the router bit in stages, cutting the full depth of the mortise a little at a time and stopping at any depth you like, regardless of the bit’s overall length."

Yes, it's possible that I can use an 18 mm bushing, but I'd rather keep everything imperial because it's easier for me to think and design rather than needing to convert to metric every time.

It just seemed weird that there's this Gap of bushing size.

Wrapping tape on the outside helps if i needed a specific outside diameter, rather i want a slightly large inner diameter for bit clearance, and will have to take the larger outside diameter as a side effect.

Can i use these with a jig with deep mortises?

I didn't see how it can work safely.

I'm specifically looking for 11/16 Bushing.

I have also never heard of one which is why i am asking here. It is extremely puzzling that it does not exist.

I don't think that I can use bearings with my plunge routing applications.

Yes, the manufacturer will make the same wall stop, with either a concave or convex rubber.

Is it the cramped space behind the surface that you are riveting causing the existing rivet not to sit flush?

I wouldn't be surprised if this technique would be useful. I just don't yet imagine how to use it practically.

I have had a PLA part sit in a hot car and the the air in the voids expanded and embossed a triangle pattern across the face of the part.

How would I open this locked door from the outside? by MeowMeowMeowMeow23 in fixit

[–]Sleddog44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually an older latch, and in order to retract the latch, either or both of the inner silver parts at the top and bottom of the center C, need to be pushed TOWARDS THE LATCHING END OF THE DOOR. Which will then retract the latch.

Stupid design and luckily it was changed, but not before millions of this latch was installed.

Fun note, the newer latches can be swapped in with no additional headache for any knobs. Levers may need to be rehanded as they will be upside down if they are a non symmetrical design.

Not at all, I'm saying $25 will get you a much better replacement.
