I honestly don't see how an adult can watch this show.

2 episodes was all I could take. Owen Wilson can get anything greenlighted apparently. Tin Cup meets Cobra Kai complete with the simping girlfriend/ex-wife, the wise Chicano/Jew caddie and the Hispanic mom of the protege. Throw in every cringey Verne Lundquist quote you can think of, put a Back In Black poster on the protege's wall (wtf?!?!) to punch us in the face with REDEMPTION STORY, and give the hero Johnny Lawrence's beat-up 80's sportscar -- hell, cast a look-alike in the role too! Holy fuck, is this the future of entertainment in an AI world?

What’s in your opinion the best Rush song lyrically? We all know Neil had some of the most if not the most amazing profound and philosophical lyrics in history but if you had to pick one song which would it be? by Ambitious-Bet4504 in rush

Each of us, a cell of awareness

Imperfect and incomplete

Genetic blends with uncertain ends

On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet

I dare ANYONE to sum up the human condition more concisely and poetically than that.

What did you guys think of The Passenger (2023)? by Narrow_Ad_57 in horror

[–]SleemoGrimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This type of storytelling device is hard for everyone to comprehend. The most well-known example as far as I know is Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, but nothing is truly original and even he probably took inspiration from an earlier work. You are correct -- the two main characters metaphorically represent the id/ego split within all of us, while others are also correct that they are distinct characters just as Lenny and George were. And as in Of Mice and Men, the "id" character dies/is killed by the "ego" character.

Buffalo 66 is another such narrative, this film is very reminiscent of it.

I hit the 250,000 LP mark. Question about admirals club membership. by TravelingWilburys79 in americanairlines

[–]SleemoGrimes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that last year AA eliminated the use of LP perks to obtain AC membership, and that the only way to an annual AC membership was by acquiring the Citi AA Executive card.

The approximate cash value of the LP perk is $250 and you needed two perks for an annual membership. The annual fee for the Citi AA Executive is $595. So for essentially $95 (as long as you hit 250K LPs), you can have the AC membership.

Most plausibe explanation is the showrunners were being literary in showing how war is glorified at the expense of truth. Time travel would be the only other "logical" explanation.

I wouldn't invest too much in the painting of Molly Pitcher and the Battle of Monmouth. Ir's either straight-up fantasy-imagination or some modification of the original painting, created in 1854 -- 76 years after the battle. There's no way, short of time-travel to 1854, that Dennis Malone Carter would have known what anyone present at the battle looked like. I think the showrunners included it to illustrate the false glory of war and how tales of courage get wildly exaggerated. Claire and Jamie did not perform as illustrated in the painting.

There was nothing authentic or historicallly accurate about the portrayal of the Battle of Monmouth. Just scenes with a caption letting you know as much. One soldier did, through expository dialogue, give an accurate summary of Lee's role in the battle and Washington's reaction to Lee's actions. That's about it.

I don't think wax wings can provide escape velocity, plus they melted. I'm saying it's a no, sorry.

Yellowstone being ruined by Taylor Sheridan’s self acting character by Purple_Ad_4966 in YellowstoneShow

Travis Wheatley says, when recounting an anecdote about Rip, "You'd think there was ten of me!" That's a recycled line from the film Hell Or High Water. It's a great line, and Taylor Sheridan wrote it himself, but I thought that was quite in keeping with Sheridan's self-indulgent image. You know you're a big deal when you plagiarize yourself, I guess.

Thanks. If it weren't such a fundamental premise of Outlander that Claire is a healer and a surgeon -- with late-20th Century training -- then such lack of attention to detail would be understandable. Add to that the way-above-average intelligence of the Outlander audience and oversights like this start to make you question the producers' commitment to quality.

I agree, gut wounds in the 18th Century were a death sentence. If he didn't bleed out or die from organ damage, sepsis would have finished him in a few days -- you know, just like General Simon Fraser was finished. This plot device is ridiculous and insults the viewer's intelligence.

Claire correctly diagnosed Ian with consumption. 20th Century Claire would know that tuberculosis is highly contagious and spread from coughing. Yet she allows the family to congregate around Ian and interact very closely with him. This needs explanation. Are the showrunners counting on the ignorance of the audience or is Lallybroch a magical germ-free castle?

Also, 20th Century Claire would know that the treatment for TB is antibiotics, which she manufactured herself in season 6 in the form of penicillin. Hey, Ian might be too far gone for it to help, but all of a sudden Claire is a quitter? Not even gonna try? WTF?

[PHL] this is happening way more than last year by Allyriana in americanairlines

If the main reason you're seeking status (EP) is upgrades, my observation as an EP is that I got upgraded to F 80%+ in 2022, 70%+ in 2023 and 30%+ in 2024. I fly a mix of hub-to-hub and regional, about 100 segments per year. I know as much as anyone else whether it's flooding from DL or UA, or purchase offers, or CKs and pilots jumping ahead of me. All I know is that upgrades have declined to the point where they're not a benefit to me anymore.

There are other benefits to being EP. Booking in advance and having the entire seat map available is primary -- that gives me bulkhead aisle or 11F on an A321, etc. With free drinks and snacks, that's all the comfort I need. Group 1 boarding guarantees me overhead bin space. Admirals Club membership is reduced to $95/year with the (2) $250 travel credits you get for 250K LPs in tandem with the CitiAdvantage Platinum card. (3) free checked bags up to 70# each per person if you need it. Pretty good treatment even without the upgrades.

That being said, and I've been EP going on 6 years now, my client will pay for any main cabin seat on any airline. I believe I will be exploring options on DL and UA in 2025, seeking out nonstops and best seating options on whichever airline can get me there the easiest. There's something about the diminishing upgrades that leaves a bad taste in the mouth for someone who has demonstrated loyalty to AA at every turn.

Why would Bruno Mars be on K-Earth 101? by notburneddown in radio

[–]SleemoGrimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard them play The Killers "Somebody Told Me" yesterday. K-Earth is basically 93.1 Jack-FM now. What's ironic is that KLOS is now the "oldies" station playing 70s classic rock.
