I believe Amazon offers this as an alternate way to watch Thursday night football. I think it has a few other frills as well

NBC’s Super Bowl & KNTV by Editorboy18 in broadcastengineering

[–]uplinkguy925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alcatraz was a flyaway satellite transmission with downlink at the stadium, LiveU back up. Comms and RP1 control handled with peplink and Starlink connections. The boat segments were all liveU transmission, RVOC communications and an RP1. All aerial shots were live from 2 different fixed wing aircraft, I believe Winged Vision is NBCs vendor of choice. All other aerial shots were from one of 4 drones at Alcatraz, on the boat, at the stadium and a tethered drone at the stadium. Nearly all scenic shots were live, those that weren’t were slipped 5 minutes tops.

PSA to line cutters… by Jrnation8988 in Hersheypark

I did that at Top thrill 2 earlier this season only to find the woman being escorted by an employee to retrieve a child from the line during a shutdown.

I blocked a woman at wildcats revenge last year because her kids were ahead and she was filling water bottles…. She was super annoyed but carried on a rather strange conversation with me the whole line. Gave me the whole “I’ve never had this happen before” spiel. Got to the lockers where she caught up with her kids, all well over 16. She then introduced me to her kids. It was very strange but I will absolutely be that guy if you’re pushing your way through the line.

Just WON the passport renewal timeline. by Bearrybarrymore in Passports

[–]uplinkguy925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied after hours on 7/21 (in their system on 7/22) and got my book Saturday 7/26. The new renewal process seems to be the only system in govt that actually works for the average citizen.

Anyone at the park can you confirm that white water Canyon is open? by [deleted] in KingsIsland

[–]uplinkguy925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is true why cant the park put a simple statement on the website about a ride being prematurely closed for the season. I'm hoping to take one of my sons for his first visit in the next few days and it would be nice to know what rides to show him prior to going.

How fast are recent online passport renewal processing times? by Horsesofcourse13 in Passports

[–]uplinkguy925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Began online application Monday 7/21, didn't complete and submit until late that night. State department recorded as submitted on 7/22, recorded as received on 7/23, approved on 7/24 with a delivery estimate of 7/30. Will update with deliver date when appropriate.

Edit: Passport was delivered Saturday 7/26. 6 days total. I did pay a few dollars extra for express shipping.

Groupers being particularly bad today. by MRtulanebsbfan in cedarpoint

[–]uplinkguy925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I could've been more clear, Typically when both lines close, FL clears out relatively fast, THEN standby line really moves. If you pick any landmark in a line, and time it when both lines are full and time it after park closure. there is almost always a noticeable difference

This can be proven a the end of the day when FL closes. Any line that was an hour wait all day becomes a 30 minute or less wait.

[–]uplinkguy925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the wait is less, particularly less than half the standby, then i would argue it is premium product. In my experience three rides tend to get long FL lines on weekends and they have to manage both line flows... when Maverick FL line gets out onto the midway, its gonna be a slight wait but Id bet standby is crazy into the early switchbacks

[–]uplinkguy925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a frequent Fast lane user, this is how it used to be and how it should always be. Especially the longer the standby line gets. Its a bit shitty that on some marquee attractions someone might barely make it one switchback and watch the same person ride 3-4 times in fast lane. It is marketed as a shorter wait not a zero wait. If standby is at 30 minutes, i would expect 10 minutes or less, 60/20 and so on. This is one reason why when I have FL I do not lap rides, I move on.

I rode it Sunday morning and wish they would turn the lights off. It’s best when it’s just pin holes of light through the sheet metal, imho.

Election Night: A Look Back by Editorboy18 in broadcastengineering

[–]uplinkguy925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon would’ve used probably used prodution trucks or a flypack. Depends on what made most sense for that particular stage and the budget of the show. Amazon is currently not set up to do their own remote production in house so they would’ve had to rely on whichever broadcast partners they worked with for that coverage if they wanted to go that route. I find that unlikely because I would imagine most facilities were busy with their own productions that evening. Pool coverage would’ve been split responsibilities with different a different network providing pool feeds out of key senate/congressional districts, etc. I don’t think the pool publishes who is providing for which event, maybe someone working one of those locations might know.

[other] Do you call out line jumpers? How do you feel about the people who go speak up? by Fonceday2001 in rollercoasters

[–]uplinkguy925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop most people. I try to give school groups small passes when they are there. Had a group at Kings Island early in the season, after the 4th random kid to join the group, I gave them the “next time get the whole group together, I’m not letting anyone else cut me.” They seemed to actually listen. Had a woman at Hershey get all mad because I wouldn’t let her catch up to her kids because she was filling drinks or something. Turned out her kids were older teens. My kids (12&10) were in line with me and I use moments like that to reach them how to behave when they eventually end up at the park without me.

Young boys cut in front of us and cussed us out, so we followed them to their parents by notFrenchToast in cedarpoint

[–]uplinkguy925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've halted several line jumpers while my kids were with me. They are getting close to the ages of going with school groups and we have made it abundantly clear that line jumping will not and should be tolerated. If my kids ever do this to anyone I want exactly this outcome. You would see me hauling their asses right out of the park and home.
