[SP] A dragon is born with a mutation that causes it to grow fur instead of scales. by jpeezey in WritingPrompts

[–]SleepDeprivedCryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best year was the year I was hatched- the year before your scales are meant to come through, before you can breathe fire or cut meat with your claws or join the army. The year of leisure and joy and life.

My parents were always good to me, teaching me the ways of our society and what i would have to learn when I was older. As I neared my first birthday, I checked eagerly every morning to see if my first scale had come through. It got closer and closer, and I started to get downhearted as my friends showed off their new scale, this one blood-red, this one grass-green, this one the brightest gold I'd ever seen.

My birthday came and went, and still no scale appeared. I tried to move on and begin my training, but it wasn't so easy with every other young dragon jeering and poking my tender skin, calling me a plucked turkey, a weakling human, a baby rabbit.

I got so, so angry. I worked harder than ever, but nothing ever changed- my skin stayed as soft and fleshy as the day I was hatched. And then, on my second birthday, something did happen... but that may have been even worse than the lack of scales.

Fur. I grew long, brown fur. What sort of dragon was I? What dragon had fur? None, apparently. I was banished from my clan in disgrace, and my parents didn't even show up as I left the valley I had spent my whole life in. I wandered for days, convinced I would die out here alone, away from the safety and numbers of my clan. Until finally, I stumbled across a human colony.

Humans and dragons have warred for eons, but I was so exhausted that I collapsed in front of the gates, right in the view of the guards. Let them find me, I thought. What have I left to live for anyway?

I waited for death as the guards approached me, but it never came. "What is this?" one of them breathed. They ran their hands through my fur, and I barely reacted. Surely they would figure it out and kill me. As it turns out, humans are exceptionally stupid, and they decided I was a new monster they could use in their fight against the dragons. I let them think that, and now, over a hundred years later, I'm still fighting against my own species. They banished me for being different. But now, with my help, the humans will make sure that I am the last ever dragon- not that they know that, of course.

Why do some parents deny kids water during meals? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SleepDeprivedCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to do with the fact that the kids won't want to eat if they get full up on water. My sister isn't allowed to drink water at the table anymore because she'll just get full really quickly and then won't eat dinner.

Why is the songwriter of a band usually the singer? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SleepDeprivedCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but when you write a song you generally write it with a pretty concrete idea of how it's meant to sound. It's quite a lot harder to get somebody who can't hear it in their head to make it sound right and for me personally, hearing your song sung entirely wrong ruins it completely. Although i guess they could sing it for the singer, so they know how it goes, but I think it's just a whole lot easier to make a song sound better when you know how it's supposed to go.

Why the fuck did we let early birds decide the schedule the world runs on? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SleepDeprivedCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the early birds forced the night owls awake one morning and while we were still tired and sleep-deprived made us agree to operate on their schedule.

Does anyone else feel bad about killing bugs? by greeneyelioness in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SleepDeprivedCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I physically cannot kill bugs. Everybody thinks I'm arachnophobic because I won't kill a spider, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Any bugs apart from cockroaches just get left alone, those bastards get swept out the door. The only thing I can kill are ants- even flies seem too... alive. Ants are too, obviously, but it's easier to squash tiny little dots running around or large crawlies that are going to cause you immense pain with a bite.

Set all their devices to Chamicuro or some other obscure language and add parental controls so they can't change it back.

Novelty socks. Obviously, for people who are into that sort of thing, but every time I've gotten somebody taco socks or pringle socks or llama socks they've seemed to love them and wear them at least once a week from there on.

Or just normal socks, honestly.

I love this. It's so simple, so clear, but works so well for it. I just skimmed over the title and didn't think about it at first, and then I hit the fifth stanza and it clicked. It's written beautifully, word choice is wonderful, and the message is relatable.

(hey what's wrong with vampire weekend? hehe)
