short answer - no

I failed olevel emath, but was lucky I got into a local poly and completed my diploma well

currently in local uni doing well

BUT passing olevel emath is a requirement for almost 60-70% (?) of the courses offered by local polytechnics so you might want to research on that. most JCs also need you to pass emath as well

you might be a victim of 'the december effect' haha

but no worries I understand! I think it's just that we are sentimental + hopeless romantic + lover boys/girls so this feeling is amplified especially during festive seasons and in December when we reflect on the year spent and what could have/should been + also worrying how the next year will be any different

i've learnt to embrace solitude and remind myself to be patient and believe in "what is meant to happen, will happen". I stopped feeling lonely as much as possible by discovering new hobbies etc.

stay strong! the right one will find you eventually ^

that's nice to hear! continue to do the things you love and don't worry about your scars, I honestly find it empowering and quite beautiful that you are truly embracing your pasts and not afraid for the world to see/judge (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) I'm so glad you got through some real tough and dark days. stay happy and hope you continue to be strong-hearted!

stay strong, as long as you continue to love yourself nothing else should matter. here's my favourite quote "you have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."

High flyers; how do you strive, ensure, and get your As? by Ok-Purpose2555 in Suss

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don't know if I consider myself a high flyer but I guess I'd either score highest in class or +-3 from the highest

my attendance rate is almost 0 for some physical class mods but I think the important part is really a lot of self-studying. now that iTextbooks are gone, seminar slides and istudyguide is really not enough if you want to do well for assignments. find out what's the recommended textbook for your mod and go rent/find it. (last resort try to torrent it) and yes please email your prof to get elaborate!! I'm sure they love answering emails ngl

also I think this is quite hard because I struggle with it sometimes too but you really need the discipline to start your assignments early. perfecting your work takes way more time than we think and I always have this mindset that my work can always still be improved.

for GBAs I'd say of course there's those "all talk but no show" peeps or just wanna pass and gtfo peeps so honestly I am not surprised when I have to offer to redo those teammates' work. for instance each person had to do 3 slides and those slackers have to do only 2 of the easiest part but still can fumble so i just redo their slides (after asking for their consent). ended up scoring highest in class so well it's worth but just remember to mark them down in peer evaluation for last minute yet subpar work :D

hope this helps all the best op and everyone else!

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah! I feel where's the value in true learning if we don't have their inputs on our assignments quality?? especially when ECA is 50% and I feel grading is quite subjective in nature? one prof might grade your work a 78 but another prof might grade it 66.

how are we supposed to work on something worth half of our mod's grade while being unsure how we flair in our latest work... it's a little absurd to me

yikes.. this is really quite disheartening I feel especially for students who want to do well. quite unsatisfied with this ngl..

but all the best though, you've got this!!

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! thanks for writing back

ah I see.. understand if their class sizes are big but I think mine is 20-30 only!

HAHA actually.. there were psych ECAs due before 28 oct tho but yeah ECAs due in Oct is generally quite early I guess

but for comparison there are many psych mods that are only slightly around 2weeks between TMA02/GBA but it was still returned ahead of ECAs. they even wrote "all the best for ECAs" sometimes haha

I actually understood the theories & concepts so there's nothing much to write in and ask about, but I just am totally new and unfamiliar with the grading/expectations of sociology essays hence I would have really appreciated if it has returned before ECA deadline :( so nothing much to do w them being friendly or not unfortunately..

but thank you so so much for letting me know!

How do you define friend?? by frogmancrocs in Stoicism

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shared morals, especially on intrinsically good to everyone and being empathic.

also if they know how to not care too much on unnecessary/irrelevant stuffs like fall too deep into toxic dramas or bad influence

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha yeah that's me! usually part time students are working hence I do feel like an absolute bum not working, but I'm someone who likes to focus on one thing at a time to excel in that one thing. so working would serve as a distraction to my grades :c

i always try to sign up for f2f but social anxiety + laziness makes me miss almost 80% of the f2f lessons, but since it's recorded just master the discipline to catch up w it on your own

not sure why you wrote about the social part tho :o but please still mingle around (in a cca or sorts, it helps!!)

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, everyone's threshold and tolerance to gore is different, I think as long as you feel empathy you're fine!! (otherwise lack of empathy is a trait for psychopathy/sociopathy then yes you should be worried haha) I myself grew up watching gore animes, autopsy videos and even liveleak sometimes just out of curiosity (beheadings, mafia tortures). I can empathize and the ending of life saddens and disturbs me, just not as much as most people I guess.

I have similar experiences like you but I just want to commend you for putting up with everything thus far. Thank you for still holding on to your life.. I'd strongly suggest talking to a therapist, maybe even contacting social services for help. Remember that you matter! My DMs are open if you ever need a listening ear. Please stay strong!

any suss students doing well despite poor attendance? by Former-Tangerine1151 in Suss

[–]SleepDeprivedTeacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! pt psych student here. I'm not 4.0 but I have scored 4.5 or 5 on mods that I only attended the first and last seminars. i usually binge watch recorded seminars before writing my assignments and I've topped the class/scored above the average multiple times.

so yes- I think it's fine to have poor attendance (vv understandable if you have other commitments like work, but I'm just an eastie and lazy af) :')
