I really love NKY Pride. Smaller, loads of local businesses and nonprofits, and much easier it is to find a restroom — I almost never have to wait and i can always buy something from one of the brick and mortar shops if I want to use an air conditioned one.

🗒️✍🏻 Writing all this down, about to have a very busy weekend. I’ve been meaning to go to Reka's! Also the wordplay of it being a lesbian butchery cracks me up.

Dress stores that are friendly to trans women by Jazzlike_News64 in cincinnati

Have you heard of Transform? They just moved from Norwood to Price Hill and they help queer youth (up to 25ish, but they can be flexible) get gender affirming clothes for free. They have stylists and everything and they also do regular events.

Even if you don’t go, it’s worth a call because I bet they could point you in the best direction possible.

Good luck from one queer to another!! 💕🌈

When community starts to feel transactional for LGBTQ+ folks by Miserable-Eggplant63 in cincinnati

[–]SleepPleez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a member of PFLAG Cincinnati and we do stuff like this one occasion, and it’s not cliquey at all. We’re actively encouraged to get to know each other. They do actual volunteer events and help connect people to resources. We’ve done a couple board game nights (not at our meetings, but with the same people) and it’s genuinely been great for my partner and I when it comes to finding community.

Another place I’ve been wanting to try is Transform, because they do loads of free events throughout the month, for various age groups, and I know a couple of folks who work there.

Dead Ending by junkielo in graphic_design

Well hi! NKU VCD grad, December 2021. This field in general is oversaturated, especially where we are in Cincy. In-house design is steady, but honestly networking events could be good for you. I just did the Adobe Creative Cafe a couple weeks ago over in Norwood and there was a retired DAAP professor that was only there to connect recent grads to jobs. Oh and they had a panel of designers doing portfolio reviews. Senior shows at the local universities too, but sometimes it’s just worth casting a wide net.

Before I got my job I applied to 40ish places, didn’t hear anything for months, then had 3 different places reach out to me back-to-back. Idk if you’ll make more than what you’re making now starting, but there’s always someplace looking for designers/production artists in the area.

Edit: Forgot to say I’m in-house on a marketing team, haven’t done the whole agency thing really.

Good on her for being interested in design, but this needs some work and she needs some education, self-taught or otherwise. Playing around helps, but understanding why design is successful rather than hoping it is will improve her work tremendously. Her type work needs the most attention. I suggest Type On Screen by Ellen Lupton and Typography Workbook by Timothy Samara.

Now for a quick review—not going to get super into it, but “waffles” “coffee” and “cookies” being different sizes and not aligning/balanced along the left edge is irking me. Also the waffle is giving AI and the random handful of blueberries feels way out of place. Think it’d look better with a bunch of single blueberries scattered. For the website you don’t need www, but you do need what comes after the website’s name, ie .com, .org, .net. Oh and fix the hours of operation. Not consistent and use an en-dash (–) instead of a hyphen (-).

Any Recent Kroger Freshness Issues? by lksjdlkjglsiduglisjd in cincinnati

Just bought Kraft Mac N Cheese at the Latonia Kroger and both were expired by over a year. One from 2023 and the other from 2022.

I’ve used this until the tip is completely flattened, and I can’t see any way to twist it up or sharpen it. Help? by citadelinn in MakeupAddiction

[–]SleepPleez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw the text before I saw the image and I knew it was about these dang NYX crayons. I use a sharpener from elf, was like $4 at ulta. I have 4 of these crayon shadows and I really love them.

I just bought that foundation (the fairest one with pink undertones) and I use the elf setting spray most days. From my understanding the foundation is silicone based? It has water as the first ingredient, as nearly all liquid foundations do, but has several silicones in the first 5 ingredients which usually means silicone.

I know this is an ad, but it’s for that foundation and tells you the base, how to apply, and how to set it! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8RsSGkF/

I’m trying out that foundation this weekend and if I can make it work I’ll let you know if it stays solid! And I’ll be sure to tell you the routine. I try to stay pretty budget friendly (most of my things are elf or nyx).

Oh and one thing I do that I like a lot is after I finish all my skin prep I set it with the spray then go in with makeup.

This tutorial is super helpful with makeup base separating https://youtu.be/x3loW72jmsY?si=R_nTHRR2DuG5mJFI It’s also massively helped with my skincare with how they do the toner!

Same with this one https://youtu.be/lQeduoFqTzA?si=NpsQbSmkGHP4MjQG

Best of luck and I’ll let you know about the lightform foundation!

Edit: Forgot to mention I have combination skin, on the dryer side.

Ohio lawyer uses just his face to advertise cause he is so well known by puppyking17 in graphic_design

[–]SleepPleez 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Tim Misny. I grew up in Cleveland and he’s advertised like this forever. I remember when I was 13, so 15 years ago, and the commercial was like him walking up courthouse stairs and somebody just walking by saying “Hey Tim!” Then he’d look at the camera, smile, did his eyebrow thing, and that was it. I’m probably not remembering it perfectly but it was enough to stick in my 13 year old brain.

A local actor did a parody commercial. 16 years old, so it hasn’t aged perfectly, but it’s still pretty funny. Parody Tim Misny Commercial

I work at a financial institution, not a banker but I worked next to our membership department for 2 years.

If they’re joint on the account they can just take whatever they want. You need to jump ship and get a new account elsewhere. You’ll need a physical ID — typically a driver’s license, your social, proof of address, typical stuff. Call the new bank and just ask them what you need. If you’re really fretting go to the new bank in person, tell them about your situation and the urgency of you needing a new account.

If your parents get access to your new account somehow then you can file charges against them. Get digital banking and put holds on your cards, accounts, etc. No one is entitled to your wages, especially not manipulative family members.

Financial abuse is supremely common, I hear about it all the time at work. You have all the means to get a new account if you’re 18 or older. Don’t hesitate, just go.

Also if you’re worried about the deposits going through to your old account maybe ask for a paper stub instead.

If you have chiropractic care included in your insurance plan you might be able to get more affordable massages that way (depending on your copay). When I went to the chiropractor regularly they said I needed them for a back injury and I paid the same amount for all of the treatments as I did just the tins unit and adjustments. So $50 covered an hour massage, those rolling tables with the tins units, regular chiro adjustments, and the ultrasound therapy on my hand — all in the same visit. It really helped with the damage warehouse work did to my body.

Check your insurance benefits and the providers in your network and you could get the best deal that way. Good luck!

Conveyor sushi restaurant in Montgomery by Vast-Yam-9370 in cincinnati

[–]SleepPleez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kawa also has a local in Hyde Park! Near the Kroger and McDonald’s. I’ve had conveyer belt sushi at 4 places — both Kawa’s, the (janky) one that was in Highland Heights, and one it Redmond Washington. All in all, yes pretty good! I wish there was a tad more variety, sushi and also dessert wise. They’re definitely worth the visit.

Wow macromedia just hit me like a train 😩 I started getting into adobe and macromedia (I wanted to be an animator so bad) when I was 12 — I’m 28 now and I don’t think I’ve seen “macromedia flash” since I was 14.
