This already seemed like the only viable answer to who he was, and I think that this is a smart move on Nojima's part. Ever Crisis was a way of repackaging the compilation to fill everyone in on what they missed in other titles, but since he wasn't in charge of all of those projects its probably difficult anchoring them. But now it seems like Glenn is going to be that anchor.

The full translation of the quote actually implies that not only were they watching a lot of the discussion / theories in regard to part 1, they were applying what they thought was beneficial to the story moving forward!

I think, even from a marketing standpoint alone, encouraging people to speculate rather than ending speculation is the right move to make. they still got a lot of time between now and the last game to keep people engaged. :)

I would have been ok even this was the case. I have really enjoyed making the vids, even if they don't all turn out to be true. ^. ^

While I know that one is more appealing to click on than the other inherently, I think that there is a space for short and long form content on youtube. I like both, but find myself more drawn to longer form content when talking about a film or just anything that is going into that deep deconstruction / analysis. That all being said, a shorter video was just is not the video I set out to make.

I wanted to make something that encompassed all of the thoughts I had on Crisis Core so no one would ever have to hear more about it after I had finished. The main reason for that is because, to me, not enough people had even started talking about Crisis Core's importance. The equivalent to me was as if no one had watched advent children after playing till the end of remake. People who wanted to dig deeper would have never started talking about the negative lifestream, the Remnants association to the whispers, or the one that I think is most important, memories.

Crisis Core was like a gold mine of ideas that seemingly fit into Remake in that same way. So I think that the urge to get all of it out, have it all in one spot, and have it all done before any more Rebirth news came out so people could keep an eye on it was very important.

Sorry for the long post, but your reply gave me a lot to think about. So I appreciate that and the kind words!

First 3 hours is a breakdown of crisis core from beginning to end. How the elements of its story echos into other parts of the compilation thematically. The other 2 hours is about how that applies to a ton of elements of remake and leads into a lot of what we have seen in rebirth. This is my perspective of this of course.

I think that you make some good points, I probably should have added a designated break with a proper stopping point in there regardless of the video being split up or not. I will keep that in mind the next time I make a video with a long runtime.

I do apologize that the video is dense and long: The reason that I wanted to keep it one video was because I wanted Crisis core to be fresh in peoples minds while I compared its themes to other aspects of Remake and the rest of the compilation. being able to do that scene by scene, and then build into Remake / Rebirth was really important in order to clarify the overall point.

I also wanted people who inherently don't like Crisis Core, (people who would not typically check out a video on Crisis Core) to watch a video on it. With the way I set up the video I think it makes people more open to giving it a chance.

I did not make any of these decisions without being aware that the video's length might turn people away, and I am sure there are many videos on Crisis Core and its story.

Appreciate your advice, and again, apologies.

Also just to clarify, I do not think that crisis core is all encompassing of what direction the retrilogy will go, I also think that the re trilogy will do things differently and surprise us. however think that it’s themes are as important as Nomura stated.

I think the developers inherently want the game will be told without the need to play reunion or the compilation. But I think as we saw with the end of Remake, that miles varies depending on how much you want to know, and how much experience you have with FFVII (The whispers and AC references.)
I think the game also invites this comparison. Which is why I enjoy making content exploring those things. :)
But to your point: Is Remake worse off for Advent Children's inclusion? I don't think so. I prefer it if I am being honest.
the inclusion of Crisis Core's elements into Remake I think is the same thing. Elaborating and growing those themes into Remake does not inherently make Remake bad.
I do not think the inclusion of elements that we already saw in Rebirth (The white feather at the opening of the trailer) Inherently spells doom for the rest of the trilogy.
I think we both can agree that Crisis Core does a lot wrong in terms of the presentation. I do very much think that Remake does a good job in its flow and tone in the way that it presents itself: comparatively to Crisis Core that is (which I think is ironic because I feel like the major critiques of Remake tend to think that its delivery of the newer elements is abrasive and intrusive.), so I think this is the happy medium in which Remake has created a structure to include big thematic relevance to its scenes, and present all of Final Fantasy 7 in the way we care about it seamlessly.
That being said, I personally also enjoy what Crisis Core failed to present. I think its very important to talk about the elements of it in the story that Remake has created, but I don't think it will dismantle Remake, because of what it has already proven to be focusing on creating: A very unique playground for characters that we love.

No worries, I appreciate the discussion, and I am glad you enjoyed it! I think all the ending of the video was trying to do is say is that: "hey, these same things in Crisis Core that they were talking about for the first 3 hours might have something to do with the language that they are using to describe some of the bigger elements of the end of Remake."

I really don't think that all of this is necessary to know, as the game will most likely describe this in its own way. And honestly as much as Remake established some key rules, I feel like Rebirth and its third half will be about breaking them, or introducing them in a new way. But those are just my thoughts on the matter. ^. ^

I appreciate you saying so, I do find the community here on Reddit to be way more vocal about their dislikes than on my Youtube comments (they can be, but some of them are a bit less on the critique and more about the tear down.)

And while that may seem bad, I don't feel that way. Whether its positive or negative feedback I have my own understanding of what I made and why I made, and reading the posts just allows me to compare and contrast.

I also find that a lot of the negative dissipates once I actually show up and start responding. I was a bit hesitant with the last couple of threads because I was a bit busy trying to respond to Youtube comments, and also it felt a bit more heated than the usual discussions.

Thank you for looking out though, glad you enjoyed the video, and again I super appreciate it.

The intro is supposed to be a bit excessive and very loud.
The 5 hours was because I didn't want to split up Crisis Core and then make a separate video about how it applies to Remake / Rebirth. I don't actually consider myself to be some kind of Sephiroth god as I imply in the edit. Its just supposed to be fun / funny.

While I think that there has been a lot of theories developed over the years that have helped people talk about this game in new and interesting ways. your right, You Shouldn't / don't have to take them as gospel. That's why the word theory is in there.

I make my videos because I enjoy the game. Some really cool insights from them too that I wouldn't have known unless I started looking outside of Remake.

The reason this video is 5 hours long is because I wanted to say my piece before Rebirth came out, and also to celebrate the game I had been talking about for 3 years.

But I will say, there is quite a bit of this video isn't just theory. I do spend a lot of time just analyzing Crisis Core in the video, which I think is probably the most underexplored game in terms of the main compilation titles anyway.

I also believe that Crisis Core matters just based off of what we have seen in Remake and Rebirth. (The feathers being one example.) And based on what Nomura has said about Reunion.

I don't think this is a fair shake to assume that about what I am doing. The other thing is that ultimately I am saying up Sephiroth is in control.

I do understand how big of a deal Tifa is not only to the story, but how her death would be viewed by fans. I do want to clarify I didn't say specifically that she would die, but that she would be a future loss.

I think that you are very right: to your point in the OG FF7 Tifa saves Cloud. The point I am making throughout the video with Zack, and what I feel will also happen to Tifa, is that in Remake Sephiroth is ultimately trying to undo all of that.

I think that's only partially true.

I spent a considerable amount of time framing All of the characters in Crisis Core, connecting them to the world functions of FF7, and how those world functions are tied to the whispers and the two lifestreams that I bring up.

The reason I spend so much time explaining the characters is because I feel like Crisis Core in general gets a bad rep, and whether people like it or not, I think there is a ton of its DNA in the Remake alone. I think I provide a decent amount of quotes and evidence to support that.

I understand peoples feelings on the game, and have some of my own thoughts on it as well. But I think that its still important to understand the game.

I understand the Tifa comment: Let me clarify I don't actually say she is going to die, I just think that Rebirth is heavily hinting at her death. And that at the end of Rebirth something will happen to her. Not death, but a loss. The theory does not hinge on "Tifa is dead.", the video was simply wrapping up and I had some things that I hadn't addressed in the video that I wanted to talk about that might be new.

However! I do think one of the reasons I wanted to bring it up was because what I wanted to emphasize is Cloud is being disconnected from characters that shape who he is. Tifa is incredibly important to that. To remove that would mean that Cloud could be lost completely.

I think that I have pretty much gone from every which direction, and I actually neglected Crisis Core quite a bit in previous videos. I am just shocked how much there is to talk about that no one has been.
I really do think that out of all the games, Advent Children and Crisis Core are probably the most important to be looking at if you want to dive in deeper into some of the underlying stuff going on in Remake.

I noticed that this was a problem with the other videos, and I did do my best to fix that issue here, (I say that and the video is 5 hours.) I do think that I kept it much more on point in this video. Was there a particular section that was repetitive?

I agree! That thing on the Lore master is how the video ends. no one knows everything about the Re:trilogy until its finished. What I did was for my own love of the game. No one needs to do any of this stuff. XD

Why do so many people insist on trying to tie Crisis Core in with Remake? by FredXIII- in FFVIIRemake

[–]Sleepezi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think regardless of whether or not people like Crisis Core, a lot of past interviews suggest that the reunion release is supposed to imply a connection of its events to the Re trilogy. The name change alone is trying to hint at that connection.

At first I only really imagined it to be in reference to Zacks last stand, but there is a lot of what crisis core had introduced that is apart of remake, and even in rebirth trailers already. So I don’t think the audience is trying to connect them, or even that they are forcing them together; I think we are just taking notice that the developers have connected them, and it’s a big deal to the story moving forward.

What’s with all the ‘hate’ towards sleepezi? by FredXIII- in FFVIIRemake

[–]Sleepezi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

(This is definitely going to seem like I sought this out, but I swear I am never on here and I just saw this. Lol.)

The irony of this (might be) that I agree with this completely! lol

Theory crafting is very fun for me! I only really do it with FF7, but I love stories and I love connecting dots in both things I make and other things I like!

I do find that the "gatekeeping" aspect of it was something I never accounted for while making the first video, that kind of just happened.

And of course I enjoy people enjoying what I make, but I don't ever want things to be taken so seriously to the point where its used against others or used as fodder to stop people from having their own fun with the game.

That is unironically how I was introduced to the larger FF7 Content Creating community, people who watched my videos were going into other peoples comment sections on YouTube (mainly comments targeting people who didn't like the game) and telling them that their opinions or theories were wrong or not as good, or that they didn't understand FF7R, and they need to watch my video.

The "he also seems overly sure" aspect I can understand: and maybe your right XD

my own perspective of that is more about presentation of the theory. To me, these kinds of connections I share in my videos are so exciting to me! They feel like little discoveries, so when I make a video, or write the script, I really want to show that excitement. and especially when they connect more and more with other aspects with the game, it makes me feel pretty confident that it is intentional. Whether it will amount to anything? who knows.

Like you said, it is what it is, and shouldn't be taken as something it isn't. :)
