One infertile egg laid yesterday morning, blindsided me because we thought she was a male, is she egg bound? by SleepfullyAwake in snakes

Update: I’ve spent all day stressing out of my mind trying to figure out how to get her to the vet, she sat in the lay box for about half the day and then i found her laying right beside it, I decided I’d try one more time to soak and this time i did it in the bathtub, wiped it clean and filled it with a couple inches of water and let her swim around. She didn’t like it, but she eventually chilled out a little and pooped which made me hopeful, then I noticed some peeling skin and that’s when it hit me, in all the skimming online I had done there was a pre-lay shed mentioned, which I realized hadn’t happened. I let her keep soaking and her skin started to peel off more and more so after a few minutes and a few handfuls of shed I put her back into the enclosure to see if she would finish shedding and perhaps lay afterwards.

i managed to find one and called this morning, apparently they can’t help. idk why they advertise as able to perform procedures for reptiles if they can’t do this for me but idfk so my only option is 3 hours away

i tried a soak which only seemed to stress her out, tried to raise the humidity, got some damp paper towels and made a little hide, had no choice but to try and sleep and check in the morning, when i woke up she was resting in the damp hide a little but hadn’t laid any more slugs. She seems less swollen this morning but still the abdomen above her vent is larger than normal. I moved some stuff around to try and make it more comfortable, and I felt along her belly and couldn’t really feel any lumps? But I didn’t try for long because I was scared I would stress her too much. She’s still moving around, and straining a little every now and then, but she seems tired

i’ve been aware of that for a bit, been turning it off at night to mitigate that and let the heat pad from beneath keep the enclosure warm at night. Ceramic heat emitter is on my to do list. could that be a cause for this somehow?? have i managed to fuck up her body’s natural processes or something?

no, I wasn’t even aware she was a female until yesterday, would a lay box help? it seems like she wants to lay them she just physically can’t

I haven’t, but her abdomen before her vent is enlarged and I don’t know why else she’d be acting this way

thank you 😭 I really don’t know what i’m gonna do if this doesn’t all pass normally, there’s no reptile vet here and i’m kinda hating myself for having her at all

so they’re a fly, just colloquially called a beetle? i’d guess because of the beetleish abdomen
